Historian Emily Kate Genatowski shares five eye-opening lessons from a year living with her AI-powered robot roommate, from the quirky and chaotic to the surprisingly mundane. Her experiences show that the future of robots isn’t science fiction — it’s practical, messy and already here. (Recorded at TEDAI Vienna 2025 on September 26, 2025)

if YOU laughed out load it means YOU only just laughed in stead of also parallel being made surprisedly alert about these 5 made practical very important aspects with robotics :

we as AI-robotics R&D-company were thàt fully aware of eg the first mentioned aspect (lawbased-responsibilitiew) we had to let stop the R&D on selfdrivingcars worldwide (!) and let all restart from scratchbin this R&D-area BECAUSE eg only 5% (super max 10%) of the financing companies and of the R&D-ceo’s and of the projectmanagers and of the developers and of the softwarewriting-engineers AND of the testers… were/are aware about the VERY IMPORTANT lawbased-dangers…..

      so lol….?
      this/yours “lol” 😂😂😂😂😂 might have a doubtingstrange-awareness going parallel to the “just” lol…. 🤪🤔😵🤪😉🤪🤨🤣😂😯😫😤🤯😳😜😅

The contrast between kids asking “what should I study to work with robots?” and adults trying to test a “firm handshake” was fascinating. Public interaction will likely shape robotics adoption just as much as engineering breakthroughs.

      😊 :
      tip ;

This coming from a man whose first adult book I ever read as a child was Asimov’s “I Robot”. I was so excited at the start of the video to find what living with a robot was like to… finally at the end of the video… I am so “over it” as far as robots are concerned.

    • @Han_van_Bakel

      March 7, 2026 at 1:38 am

      uh…? ….ya should be as far over it about humans aspecially about VirMul (Hominida, but “hom” stands for only just male like Eva was made out of a rudimentary torso-bone of Male Adam 😂😂😂) Sapiëns… ya should be over it;

all(!) people are not trustworthy, are as dubious as the interaction with/from/by robots…..

      let’s ask for aliëns ! 😂😂😂😂😂
      oeps ! :
are these like the colored(beige) small agressie metalsusing creatures the Avatar-(blue poeple)-movies ?
      😮
let’s just vanish all life than 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂…

“Machines” have shaped humanity to a point of no return. Man-a-kins are always welcome in shop windows. Watson conspicuously won a game show … However, conversation with a lightbulb gets old quick, and kids just want to use robot heads to play catch. Focusing on mesmerizing displays will always draw a crowd. Someone is telling the communists to work on this, because all the standing around just isn’t (working). Generation after generation ends up painting the trees then just burning them down 😀 🦶🤖🤏

To all these dummies in the comments hating on the video, maybe actually sybau? This video brings up some very insightful points which you are obiously to dumb to realise. Robots will be implemented in MASSIVE quantities in the coming years throughout society, so asking these questions now is valueable. All of yall are just hopping on the AI and robotic bandwagon of hate, But its funny because you will literally be able to do nothing to change this robotic society outcome. The only thing you can change is pointing out how these things can be unsafe and do dumb things, then demand a change for those particular things (WHICH IS EXACTLY THE POINTS EMILY BRINGS UP).

    • @Han_van_Bakel

      March 7, 2026 at 2:03 am

aggree😊…. and we as a R&D_AI+_robotica “group” are aware the main problems are the finance-ceos and r&d-mt and projectleaders and lowline-engineers in ALL robotics/AIs because just as likewise the same of all anti-ai/robot-people they are in the amount of 5% (bestcase 10% superbest) aware of the practical issues + and – … so fully NOT equiped to define useabilities AND easy-to-take-risks…

the selfdrivingcarproces was eg stopped because of a training we gave about lawbased icw humambehaviour icw ethics …. the easy to tackle incompetance/”knowledge”/views of all people creating ai/robotics is the same as the main-people/consumerpotentials ….
so they just pulled the plug just like complaining or affraid people pull(ed) their own plugg…
      😂😂😂

      BUT;
this is a base-behaviorism of all animal life on THIS planet and for sure of VirMul (Hominida, but “Hom” latin stand for polarized just Male😂😂) Sapiëns …

Ok.. telling people not to worry about jobs while being worried about personal collections of antiques and being comfortable talking about insurance coverage kind of demonstrates a distance from the financial reality that most people face and undermines the argument. Considering we can’t even get political figures to agree on what is best for the country, not even healthcare, it sounds crazy to be like, “Don’t worry. The politicians will take care of you with regulations if ‘AI’ takes your job.”

      Save precious life time:

Genatowski outlines five practical lessons learned from her year of cohabitation:
      1. Robot-Proofing the Home [03:30]
      • Liability: Despite “obstacle avoidance” technology, Toba was clumsy, breaking numerous household items like teacups and wine glasses [03:50].
      • Insurance Gaps: When she tried to update her insurance, the agent hung up, thinking it was a prank. This highlights a need for legal frameworks to determine who is responsible (owner, programmer, or operator) when a robot causes damage [04:31].
      2. The Difficulty of Transit [05:15]
      • Physical Logistics: Moving a 60kg robot is difficult; a taxi driver once feared the robot’s transport crate contained a human body [06:15].
      • Legal Identity: Genatowski attempted to buy a transit pass for Toba, but was rejected because the robot lacked residency papers. She argues we must regulate how robots navigate public spaces—like running errands—safely alongside humans [07:41].
      3. Social Acceptance and Boundaries [07:55]
      • Varying Comfort Levels: While some friends were eager to meet Toba, others (especially those with toddlers) did not want the robot in their homes.
      • Robot-Free Zones: She suggests the need for “community standards,” similar to rules for e-scooters or pets, to define where robots are welcome (e.g., “no-go zones” or specific licensing for different environments) [09:15].
      4. Robots in the Workforce [10:15]
      • Practical Economics: Rather than focusing only on “robot apocalypse” job loss theories, she advocates for discussing practical tax systems.
      • Taxation: We must decide whether to tax the sale of the robot or the value it adds to a business to ensure public funds continue to support social systems or Universal Basic Income [11:01].
      5. Human Reactions: The Best and Worst [11:24]
      • Unpredictable Behavior: Reactions ranged from curious children asking educational questions to an elderly man attempting to “shake hands” so firmly he nearly broke the robot’s arm [12:00].
      • Media Bias: People’s reactions are often skewed by fictional depictions (like Star Trek or The Jetsons), necessitating more real-world public interaction to ground expectations in reality [12:44].
Conclusion: Genatowski encourages moving away from sensationalism and focusing on “the invisible hand of practicality” to regulate and prepare for a future shared with embodied AI [13:11].

Owning a robot doesn’t make you a psychopath. And that’s not how “Neurosis” is used.

You are Neurotic, though, towards future technology like this and the societal changes that’ll come with it.

    • @INFJunpopularopinion

      March 8, 2026 at 2:51 pm

@Slayr.Just because you don’t see the connections doesn’t mean it’s untrue. History actually demonstrates the progressives are OFTEN TIMES those that aren’t as easily fooled as gen pop. Rest assured my dear, my comment was not for you, but I’m aware I open myself to people’s inability to NOT ingratiate themselves and project, based off the shattering of their echo chamber VIA TRIGGER, bc the logic Brain disagreement/agreement false intelligence trap that outs a closed mind, devoid of curiosity and personality, as well as the ability to think independently.

Well im definitely gonna give humans another chance because I definitely AM NOT interested in the alternative. I absolutely cannot tolerate any type of robotic voices, commands, whether it’s at the gas pump, on a telephone call, in the supermarket or on TV. This type of technological advances is not an advancement for humanity at all, but regression…Ill be checking out as soon I feel the line has been crossed.

  32. @devilrevelator

    March 8, 2026 at 2:36 pm

Gah, I cringe every time someone mentions ‘universal basic income’, not because i’m opposed to it, but because it’s so ridiculous. We can’t even get universal healthcare- just one facet of care needed in our lives- not because it’s a bad idea, but because those in power believe we don’t deserve it. We will NEVER get UBI, they would simply never do that for us (no matter who ‘they’ are). A better solution might be subsidizing companies to pay humans a living wage, and therefore at least extract some value from the arrangement, and give people participation in continuing to build our world. In any case, we can count on the most greedy, shortsighted, and downright evil ways for the elite to dominate and oppress us, and now they have superhuman machines to do it. Suffice it to say, I didn’t get the intended warm and fuzzies from this talk.
