I’ve always wanted an iPad that’s worse and also connects to a bunch devices that spy on me on behalf of massive corporations.

Reminds me most of the Touch Screen iPod Nano. I don’t have the money for this, but take my money Apple. 😅

    300 for Home View.

So why we don’t have an AFFORDABLE MONITOR from Apple around 400-500 ? Especially with a non-metal frame like iMac?

Or the pricing for Home View is such because it is entering into an existing segment like Duo is surprisingly lowish priced given it’s also entering into an existing market already?

I think apps for Home View will be allowed to grow quickly to take advantage of the hardware features.

Lastly, why not a more catchy name but instead of ‘Home View’? Why not, eg, ‘Our Home’ or ‘Our Hub’ name?

After all, “i” has been the best marketing slogan for Apple these last 20 years. Hence “we” or “our” ought to be the extension for a family product.

I am glad to see Apple expanding the SmartHome universe. I hope that means it starts to work better than it does now. I have an Eve outdoor security cam, and it working is a 10% of the time proposition right now. The only thing that really works well is the Schlage encode +. The Nanoleaf bulbs are pretty hit or miss. And Home working from the Mac is less relaible than it working from iPad or iPhone: Its a second class software citizen. No place to go but up for me.

Homeview is the first Apple product that I am struggling to find a unique utility or purpose that isn’t already manageable by your iPhone, Mac or iPad. It’s just a cash grab that offers nothing new.

good advice not to upgrade the apple tv if you have the 2nd or 3rd gen. id just add that siri ai on those models seems to arrive in beta and at launch only in english in a few countries, no eu, so for anyone watching from europe its even more worth waiting

  14. @rogeriogomesosorio4755

    October 16, 2026 at 6:49 pm

0:09 the answer is simple: no. Don’t buy it. There’s not a proper reason to buy it besides the fact that you want to spend money and you don’t care how.

6:11. When people criticized the murder of this poor table by drilling a small hole in it, it just gave me the incentive to do that for my table since it basically serves as a desk for my MacBook. That way I’ll have a nice, routed USB power cable hidden from view and for the few times we actually eat on it, I’ll just put the napkin holder or salt shaker over it. 👍

  22. @venonat80

    October 16, 2026 at 8:23 pm

Apple Home is the most pointless and unnecessary product they made. The presenter is absolutely right, its just a huge apple watch. They could’ve just made a app to make a iPad do all this. I bet any amount of money that someone will be making a mount that just a ipad stand, speaker and internal battery.

The ad made me appreciate my neuro-convergent family even more. The dad in the commercial definitely has a chair in the corner of his bedroom.

  24. @perth-quokka

    October 16, 2026 at 9:09 pm

why not enable the few features like multi-users and improved Home app on the iPadOS and get some mounts and bases and id prefer to use my home iPad for this … we actuallly have 3 iPads at home and one is the home base so I’d just use that thanks

  25. @perth-quokka

    October 16, 2026 at 9:23 pm

AppleTV price is high and who would use the HomePods to get surround sound anyway? I’ll take a good 5.1 or 7.1 system which would be cheaper and better anyway

I have Alexa Show and other Alex devices and can’t wait to switch to Apple for my smart home control but the elephant in the room is device compatibility. I still can’t even get my 2nd gen Hue hub working with Apple Home. So while I also preordered, I am cautious.

    • @Techs.Plainer

      October 17, 2026 at 1:16 pm

that’s the frustrating part lol matter was supposed to make switching ecosystems easier but compatibility is still a mess btw have you tried updating the hue bridge firmware and linking it through matter

    • @torchbox

      October 17, 2026 at 1:37 pm

@[email protected] I have. Also, I rest and rebooted everything in vain. I’m hoping the new HomeView as the hub instead of my current-gen Apple TV 4K will work better but let’s see.

  33. @rvns_r

    October 17, 2026 at 11:51 am

This is done halfway. It needs to be tethered. No battery to move around. The screen doesn’t detach. Prices are ridiculous. With or without the base same ? And the one without base need a separate mounting device that costs extra. Apple Mafia!!

  34. @gfawhiterose8838

    October 17, 2026 at 11:51 am

I’ve been using homeview for more than 10 year…. Either using my iPad or iPhone. If my family members are getting messages or whatever they normally had their phone in their hands all the time.

  35. @dalemeyer5363

    October 17, 2026 at 12:17 pm

I have concerns about Apple using LG products. Especially since the recent information that was released about how LG monitors their camera cameras and microphones on devices and you can’t turn it off. Personally, I would not have any third-party smart devices in my house besides Apple.

    • @Techs.Plainer

      October 17, 2026 at 1:15 pm

the scary part is most people never check what data their smart home devices actually collect lol privacy policies matter way more when there’s a camera and mic sitting in your living room

  36. @BullDog-h5e

    October 17, 2026 at 12:55 pm

    Next apple product: toilet view.

  37. @dorkultra

    October 17, 2026 at 1:46 pm

The best part about the apple tv is that it now supports AV1 codec, but the worst part is that it doesn’t support audio passthru

  38. @commonwunder

    October 17, 2026 at 2:05 pm

For the smart home enthusiast… this is a ‘must buy’ impulse purchase.
It integrates into their smart home – Apple ecosystem effortlessly… it itches,
their smart home itch perfectly. For the casual user… it doesn’t offer them,
any real excuse… as an impulse buy. It adds nothing to a ‘non-obsessed’,
non-smart home enthusiast that any other Apple product can already ‘sort of’ do.
And this is sold as an Apple branded smart home device… so it should come,
as no surprise who it is for.

A HomeView question about continuity. Not sure if this capability has been announced yet.

If I’m watching a tv show on AppleTV in my den and then need to do something in another room where I have my HomeView , will I be able to continue that show where I left off on the HomeView?

  43. @georgegarcia566

    October 17, 2026 at 4:06 pm

Even if it was a realistic situation.

  44. @alex_harold

  45. @ahoog69

    October 17, 2026 at 5:17 pm

These price increases! Apple needs to be more humble about its margins, and they’re going to lose customers if they keep increasing these prices. The Mac Studio that I had wanted went up $1500. The Apple TV box is more than double what it used to be just prior to June. Loyalty works both ways – Apple needs to remember the customers that made them a multi trillion dollar company.

  46. @YouFive2000

  66. @raven2004

    October 18, 2026 at 12:24 pm

‘you’re not the target audience” please, lady. As a father of three teenagers, this is ad is not realistic. The idea where the whole family is crammed in a kitchen in the morning is laughable, yes we all want to stand around a tiny device and use it while we’re in a hurry to get out the door. One of the worst ads I’ve ever seen Apple create. After watching the three-minute ad it makes me realize this product literally does nothing, it’s a bunch of bloatware for the slowest and worst AI product in the tech industry. Everything shown in this ad can be done on an iphone, which everyone in the family already has. Gone are the days when Apple created products that actually solved problems in our lives. Everything Apple released the last month has just been to push Siri AI, along with increasing prices, literally zero functional features in every product. The new Apple TV is the best example of this. You literally are getting nothing new other than Siri AI for over twice the amount the box was 4 years ago. On top of that Siri AI will be added via software update to the older model. What a disaster.

  67. @InsignificantAnonymous

    October 18, 2026 at 12:44 pm

It’s basically a less capable iPad mini with a speaker stand that adds the additional cost of a new product. A stand for a portable iPad to be set in the kitchen is a smarter purchase considering there’s already a home app

  68. @jhwk1970

    October 18, 2026 at 1:16 pm

  72. @mikeshaffer6574

    October 18, 2026 at 7:20 pm

Siri AI is still horrible in my opinion. Today I asked it to set a 22 minute timer and it locked up.

  73. @TheWolfHowling

    October 18, 2026 at 9:08 pm

Even though it’s technically no longer supported, so long as my 1st generation Apple TV 4K still works well enough to connect to my streaming services, I will not be dropping NZD$599 on this new one

  74. @dnyalslg

    October 18, 2026 at 9:48 pm

Who’s the target audience for the home thing? I mean, even the hostess of the video seems to manage just fine with her iPhone, then why get one of those home things?

You know what’s not realistic about the ad? The kids fighting for who gets to play with the home thing and the parents yelling at them to knock it off, then each kid retreating to their own Apple device. And since no family spends more than 30 minutes together in the kitchen and the home thing isn’t portable, it is useless the rest of the time, when people will just reach for whatever device they have at hand instead of walking all the way to the kitchen.

That ad was exactly what turned me off. You can do more with an iPad on a stand. I do not see the purpose of spending $300 for something to sit on a table that practically can barely do anything instead of just buying or even re-purposing an older iPad/Tablet.

  81. @mannkeithc

    October 19, 2026 at 6:38 am

I’ve got a Google Pixel Tablet that docks on a speaker in the kitchen. It interfaces with my Central Heating Nest thermostat as do my iPads via an app and my door bell. It is currently running Android 17, so it can pretty much run any app I can download from Playstore, including all my apps for streaming live TV and catch TV, movies etc, music streaming, Internet Radio, and can even play my old Nintendo Game Cube games via the Dolphin emulator, as Android supports just it time (JIT) compilation unlike iPad OS (not unless you jump through some hoops to pop your iPad into developer mode, sideload Dolphin, run an internal VPN to tether the iPad it to a locally saved iOS debug image, generate a pairing code, run Stikdebug to enable JIT, and then wait for it to break after the next iPad OS update… ). I can even connect my Pixel Tablet to a large screen, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and run it in desktop mode, should I wish. So, no I won’t be buying a HomeView. I have ordered the new Apple 4K TV and a HomePod Mini 2.

For a house hold to invest in a homeview, that house hold already owned multiple personal iOS and iPadOS and MacOS devices that can do everything this home view is offering. This new product is nothing more than an expensive paper weight….

  86. @raulm1547

    October 19, 2026 at 6:48 pm
