The content is what makes YouTube good. Just having a video streaming service isn’t enough.

Let’s cut the BS and stop pretending like Google Maps would EVER be a reason why someone would spend $1,800 for a VR headset.

    🤣🤣🤣

And the eye tracking is one of the things’ biggest gimmicks, and this guy couldn’t even pass the unit to a colleague to try it for 3 minutes, so they could report on it.

Google Maps on Android XR integrates with Google Earth VR. If you ever tried Google Earth VR on PC you know the experience. I’d say its a amazing app.

The Microsoft HoloLens 2 could do eye tracking with your glasses on and that was like 3 years ago.. what the heck is happening Samsung!?

I returned the Apple Vision Pro when I bought it. Only took me a week. I just received the Samsung XR headset and I love it.

    • @zero11010

      October 30, 2025 at 11:16 am

Just curious .. have you had it more than a week?

Also, can you come back in a year and let us know how many times per month you’re still using it?

    • @loganq

@zero11010 It’s not supposed to begin shipping until tomorrow. I’d guess he’s a Bot on a hijacked channel, and our comments are raising him in Google’s algorithm.

It’s a shame that the prescription lenses for the headset don’t support the same range of prescriptions that the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro inserts do.

  18. @ThatSoddingGamer

They made the same mistake that Apple did; no included controllers. They will apparently have controllers, but not having them bundled with the device by default makes it a harder sell to game developers/porters, as well as some other apps that would greatly benefit from knowing that all users should have a specific controller device available.

Yes, it is expensive for a gaming VR headset, but gaming IS an important aspect of VR. Without it, you get the Apple Vision Pro situation where it’s mostly just a novelty outside of certain jobs. It’s a multimedia device and immersive and all, but it’s not as straightforward as just using a TV or computer.

Also, as a Canadian I can’t even buy it normally, which was another issue with the AVP.

    • @zero11010

      October 30, 2025 at 8:13 pm

That would mean increasing the total cost by another $100 or whatever.

It’s a move to keep the costs down.

If it makes you feel better … this is basically a $2,000 toy. The people spending 2k on something like this can also get controllers separately.

There’s still value in keeping the perceived value low.

I’m depressed my Rx isn’t supported with their lens supplier. I have to wait for the unofficial suppliers and hope they’re good enough

  21. @GTeK13

Can it work with my laptop as a second screen, or better yet, can I project my windows on to it? If so, how well does it work?

    • @zero11010

      October 30, 2025 at 8:19 pm

What do you do for work?

I haven’t used THIS device. But, while screens improve rapidly, this isn’t going to be leaps ahead of where the $3,500 apple vision pro was while costing half as much.

They’re NOT an effective monitor replacement. They’re ALSO not an effective computer or laptop replacement.

And let’s be honest … with $1,800 you can get an INCREDIBLE monitor set up for your desk.

4k screens. Color corrected monitors. Ultra low latency and super high refresh for gaming. You can have separate monitors for each thing you want to do in an easy to use array. Or one massive monitor that can basically be broken up into multiple sections.

If what you do for work is .. send a couple emails per day … you could do that on a cell phone. So, yeah, you could do that on this.

If you read a LOT of text you’ll get eye fatigue. If you need to use it for art in a professional sense the color will be off and it won’t be exact enough.

  22. @ninjanerdstudent6937

    October 30, 2025 at 7:12 pm

The fact that glasses can be worn under the XR is a major win!

  23. @ninjanerdstudent6937

I want to wear the XR on airplanes.

  24. @ninjanerdstudent6937

This is the first VR device that I have actually been interested to purchase.
