@Zion Kinniebrew . Alexa’s AI is more advanced and it can do much more things.

@terry kemp I strongly disagree with you on this one. There’s no virtual assistant out there better in any way than Google Assistant

I haven’t really use the custom commands because I found it hard to get used to with google.
It was a similar thing with she who should not be named.

I wish the nest mini sounded like an echo.
I like Google assistant way more than Alexa.

A baby version of iOS shortcuts. I’ve extensively used both platforms and can tell you aside from Apple forcing their ecosystem down your throat (can’t tell Siri to use Google Maps), the shortcuts version is better.

I wouldn’t call routines ‘hidden’ as much as ‘poorly designed to be found easily’.
We don’t use too many routines, but my wife loves the one that I set up for when we go to bed. It turns on the stairway and 2nd-floor hall light, turns off all other lights, turns off all the TVs, and locks the front door. The routine leaves the master bedroom lights unchanged in case one of us is already in there.
Other than that, I personally haven’t’ found too much use for them. Google already controls almost all of the lights, thermostats, and several outlets and it didn’t seem like there was too much of a need to combine many of them. Google has built-in programming that if I say ‘turn off master bedroom lights’, it knows which lights to shut off without having to create a routine because it knows what room (master bedroom) and what type of device (lights). No need to group. If I hear strange noise, I can tell Google to turn on all lights and the entire house gets lit up like an airport, including the outside lights.

Hey Google, is it time for the kids to go to bed?
“Yes, it’s bedtime. Do what your dad says.”
But my favorite, uses IFTT. All my kid has to do is “Hey Google, tell dad blah blah blah.”
And I’ll get a notification on my phone, “blah blah blah” or whatever my kid wanted to tell me. 🙂
