I was going to complain about “fishes”. But then I looked it up: “Fish can refer to multiple fish, especially when they are all the same species of fish. Fishes, however, usually refers to multiple species of fish, especially in scientific contexts.” I can’t believe I went 45 years without knowing this.

I’m a 41 yo tropical marine ecologist. Already at only 28 seconds in. There is a misconception. “Clown Fishes”. It’s “Clown Fish”. “Fishes” is a word used for many species of fish. And it’s common to use “fish” for a group of fish, such as anemone fish of a single genus. I love this channel and the experts explaining things. This is the first time an expert has been in my field. Honestly, he did an ok job. But feel free to contact me! I’m published and would love to be a part of the channel!

In addition to seeing a broader spectrum of colors, mantis shrimp have a difference perception of the colors themselves. You may have heard that yellow light is made of red light and green light. This is only true for humans and animals with human-like color perception, who rely on red and green receptors to _infer_ we’re looking at yellow. We can’t tell the difference between pure yellow light and red+green=yellow light. Other animals with more types of color perception can differentiate between certain colors that to us might look exactly the same.

Fish that can change their gender, male seahorses give birth, starfish have no brain, immortal jellyfish, jellyfish that can produce a clone of itself, organisms like corral leaf that look like plants, etc. If we see such diverse and strange life here on Earth, imagine lifeforms in other planets.

Welcome to the “Auntieverse” — a surreal tribute to “auntie culture” by artist Niceaunties, inspired by the spirit of the women who care for each other and their families. From sushi-bedecked cars with legs to hot tub baths full of ramen, Niceaunties shares a visual feast that fuses AI and imagination and celebrates the eccentric, vibrant world of aunties with reverence and awe. (Slides created with AI including Midjourney and DALL·E 3 for text-to-image creation; magnific.ai and Topaz Labs for upscaling the images; Pikalabs and Runwayml for animation.)
