Meats should not go in there if used for plants.

This is the “composting” equivalent of the Juicero. Shiny but prohibitively expensive for the little it does. It even has “packets” and subscriptions. C’mon!

So you put energy and effort in making compost… to do with it what you would normally do and throw it in the bin. What a waste.
Not even mentioning the huge pile of plastic and electronic waste you produce after this device breaks.
    Unbelievable!

  7. neosrt10

    March 1, 2022 at 5:00 pm

Throwing plastics in there will create toxic chemicals in the soil….yeah you dont want that.

This product is not green at all. This product is one of those “feel good” products, that really doesn’t help the environment. Thunderfoot already disproved this on his youtube channel, look it up.

Great video and BRILLIANT idea/product from Lomi. Thoughts:
+ Love the concept and execution (A+)
+ Brilliant for the environment AND disposing of waste
    – $ Cost is too high, only early adopters and the privileged few can afford it. (but it 1st gen so to be expected)
    – Big 👎🏼 on having to be locked in to subscription model (i get it, reoccurring revenue for the company but at $500 plus a subscription, that is waay toooo expensive)
    – 1st gen bugs need to be fixed like the Grinding noise, etc… Will be fixed with gen 2

I’ll probably purchase the 2nd gen version for sure, good work LOMI.

So glad everyone is mentioning the thunderfoot video / review of this product. CNET should do a bit more research before posting videos like this. I’m a huge fan of CNET and I suppose I expect more of them.

  17. Bryan Joseph

    March 1, 2022 at 7:09 pm

Please don’t promote products like this. The amount of electric used to make compost should be zero. This thing is absolutely terrible for the environment when you account for the massive amount of electricity used in comparison to just a hole in the ground.

  18. Bubblewhip

    March 1, 2022 at 7:10 pm

I honestly don’t know why the garbage disposal is ignored in all these “green” programs. Waste water already has to deal with large amounts of toxic gasious biomatter in treatment which it can treat enmass through facilities that contain methane and produce pasture. Instead we are proposing regulations of diesel based garbage trucks to pick up and travel all around the city as a “green” program?

  19. Bryan Joseph

    March 1, 2022 at 7:10 pm

This does not cut down on the carbon output when you account for the electricity used during the composting process and in the actual production of the product.

If youre a pro you get a can( 1 OR 2 meter) of worms and you trow IT in there! You van also buy a rabbit and Place 3 rabbits in youre garden and trow youre food there and Then kill the rabbit and send IT to Afrika to be CO2 neutrale! Still if you have egg vhairs, a basilicum plant grower and this youre pretty next if you would LIFE in a teletubby house
You people also gonna do plant growers comparison were you buy 3 of Them? And see who gets the best plants? Bye giving every Cnner a different one
But if you Place IT on a different spot you dont need Pulls and you can trow IT into youre garden! Unless youre a heavy plant owner otherwise youre pretty fast done i think …
As end result….you trow IT with the other trash? Why? I miss the point completly except for the fact that youre the nicest Guy ever for the trash guys….witch is pretty Nice! You can beter trow IT of the balkons if you dont have garden
A few years back people here started searching trash, and we have Big trash dumbings these days! Time have chanced and you should trow IT on the street

Would love to see you throw all kinds of things that are marked “compostable”. I’ve been thinking of getting this but 500 bucks is a lot.

  23. Shaun Tremayne

    March 1, 2022 at 9:12 pm

What about the carbon producing electrical energy so not eco friendly just a waste of money normal composting is far better. This sounds like a bad Idea. It will produce the same amount of methane once it is in the soil as it is only dried not composted.

    • Shaun Tremayne

      March 1, 2022 at 9:15 pm

Ok just seen notes and looked up thunder foot and basically says the same it is just common sense CNET needs to think things over very disappointed.

    • Shaun Tremayne

      March 1, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Ok going back to the main screen says it makes no stink but what happens when you have filled your plant pots with the output only for it to rehydrate when you water your plants. I can see flies being attracted to thid.

We don’t need home composters like this we need community composts in community gardens. Granted we need a much larger spread of community gardens as well.

California is not setting any records with their so called Environment laws. I have lived here for 33 years and it is joke when the largest recycling company goes out of business because the state of California did not pay up and keep their agreement. Yeah California wants everyone to think they are setting good environment standards but in reality our governor Greusom Newscum does not understand most of the bills that he signs are doing nothing. Just like the plastic straws and bags but it is okay to give drug users needles that end up in the streets and storms drains. But it is okay because it was their narrative. Lomi is a joke of company, over priced junk is what this is.

Before bashing this, I think people should try to understand the cons of just throwing out your organic waste into the trash vs. doing something like this. Google “does organic waste decompose in landfill?” and you will find a lot of articles on why it’s not the same… that banana peel that you threw out will probably take much much longer to decompose and will produce methane which is 25x worse than CO2 due to the lack of oxygen and moisture when it gets buried in a landfill. You also need to factor in all the other secondary effects associated with just throwing away organic waste (e.g., gas, extra weight to transport to landfill, landfill operations, trash bags, etc.). I’m not advocating for this device, but given each individuals patience and space/time constraints this might be a good alternative especially if you have access to renewable power sources (e.g., solar, wind). Just wanted to provide more context before people just bash this without all the info.

Oh wow another waste dryer. That’s all these thing do. You don’t get soil, or compost. Just dried food waste. Bokashi is a much better for people in a apartment. But really these areas should have a community compost pile. I bet the average towns food waste could be used to grow food for a large portion of said town

This dude said he threw in “coffee grinds” when he should have said coffee grounds. Dumb a$$
This thing is too small, too expensive and NOT green. I’ll stick to the real way of composting.

Those of us over 45 are not looking to help the environment we’re aren’t part of the future of this world, our demo graphic just needs something that makes less work, in our lives,

So this could help me alot.

  50. moonwolf

    March 4, 2022 at 10:15 pm

after you put it though the composter and know you throw it in to the trash can why don’t you do that in the first place

  51. fuzzyduck1989

    March 5, 2022 at 7:07 am

Just throw everything in the trash. Who has the time and money to do all that? Not to mention that it’s not at all environmentally friendly since it operates using electricity.

  52. Edwin Fernandez

I would love to see a comparison between this and the Vitamix FoodCycler (a compost machine alternative).

Yeah I don’t get it… You compost it just to throw it away???
