I have the iPad Pro, 2. Generation. I mostly use it for google, Procreate and Youtube. I really want the new one, but not sure it’s worth it for my use…?

I’ve never owned a tablet, but what’s the point of it compared to a laptop?

    • @andyH_England

      October 21, 2025 at 11:18 am

Yes, no point, they are two different products. Sadly, for reach, creators keep comparing iPads to MacBooks so they can flex. I see an iPad as complementary, and depending on what you need the iPad for, choose the base, Air or Pro iPad. But always have a laptop as your first choice.

Spend a grand and then have to think about whether you can use a device with pro in the name to do anything serious. Talk about Stockholm syndrome.

The android tablets like the One Plus , Samsung Tab s9 and s11 ultra, and Xiaomi and Red Magic tablets are much more fun to use because of things like switch emulation, better Ai , open operating for apk files , micro sd card , Bluetooth stylus in the box etc

Having window management doesn’t make it like a mac. Having freaking mac apps would make it like a mac, until then it’s an overpriced glorified mail and youtube machine…

  9. @_sparrowhawk

    October 21, 2025 at 12:17 pm

Just buy a Mac. The goal of this device isn’t to turn into a Mac.

The 12.9″ M2 iPad Pro is literally the perfect tablet! Everything else is absolutely overkill. Actually, anything after M1 on the iPad won’t change your user experience unless you need the OLED screen.

    • @ajcarroll3559

      October 21, 2025 at 1:42 pm

Sounds like someone has an M2 and doesn’t want to upgrade. Just the base ram differential is enough to make me upgrade

    • @jeffreyt02

      October 21, 2025 at 2:45 pm

I’m using an M1 Pro privately and an m4 for work… to me it doesn’t make sense, I could’ve used my M1 for work too so I side with the op

    • @ICouldbeAnyoneDotCom

      October 21, 2025 at 4:41 pm

@ajcarroll3559 I’ve tried the M4 iPad Pro. The only thing I liked better than mine was the keyboard, the trackpad is very nice. I just couldn’t justify the price and changing for that. I don’t have a demanding work flow on the iPad as well.

  12. @ColonelSternlove

    October 21, 2025 at 12:24 pm

If you have last years, no upgrade needed.

The new iPadOS 26 is terrible. It was much easier before with SplitView. I miss that very much, would love to go back.

  15. @SF-kl3fl

    October 21, 2025 at 2:19 pm

Have the IPad Pro M2 and seems to do pretty much everything needed. Not compelled to change at this point. Have 11inch and 128gb with half full. Maybe when M6 or M7 come out…

  16. @PrimoZéCarlos

    October 21, 2025 at 2:40 pm

Never had an had the urge on my macbook to use touch or a pencil, two completely different machines. If you build out your Ipad pro with keyboard and pencil with same specs as macbook pro their exactly same price. Coincidence. i don’t think so. I choose macbook any day.. but the ipad pro is a beast.

      iPad pro*

  18. @drsuppan

    October 21, 2025 at 3:13 pm

You are hitting the nail here. The iPad with a keyboard and pencil is just too expensive compared to a similar capable Mac. I will not pay this money and will not update my iPad Pro. I am still using the ipad mini, but the rest happens on a MacBook Pro

  19. @Utrevj

    October 21, 2025 at 3:30 pm

If this had Thunderbolt 5 I would buy it.

  20. @nickthaskater

    October 21, 2025 at 4:56 pm

Just let me install Mac OS on the iPad Pro. There’s literally no reason it can’t other than Apple says “no.” Will they lose a sale by doing this? No, they’d be gaining one. I have no interest in buying a MacBook, and I have no interest in an iPad that has its capabilities nerfed.

  21. @COolguy146

    October 21, 2025 at 5:08 pm

Tempting, but i’m keeping my old M1 iPad Pro 12.9.

  22. @iamthatakhil

    October 21, 2025 at 7:19 pm

I really don’t understand the people who want their iPads to be Mac. When there already is a Mac. I need my iPad to handwrite notes, sketch, paint, and watch YouTube comfortably. The keyboard and trackpad experience is okay at best, most desktop apps aren’t optimised for these. I’m glad Apple keeps those aspects of the iPads alive even with all the “Mac-like” software updates. Yes, anything from M1 and above is overkill for this software, but it helps apps like Procreate and Notes apps to perform well however big your canvases and notes are. Let iPads be iPads. Or atleast keep part of the software experience alive.

  23. @anderbeau

    October 21, 2025 at 7:29 pm

I’ve been saying it for YEARS just put Mac OS on the damn iPad Pro already!!! Seriously Apple WTF?!! 🤦🏼‍♂️

  24. @veronikahellsnova7510

    October 21, 2025 at 8:16 pm

Here in Canada the 11inch is 1,399 for 256 gb and the 13 inch is 1,799$ for 256gb yup much more expensive .
