“Maybe meta will hard wire the headset into the computer so it can be faster”
This is how it used to be actually. In the VR Social/Gaming community, we’ve been asking for modern headset manufacturers to quit it with this wi-fi or USB-C only connection garbage for a while now and they won’t listen. It was so much better when the headsets were tethered and most people I know all agree that tethered headsets that are over 4 years old are still better than all of the modern headsets coming out lately.

Completely agree, I can’t stand the wifi latency even with Wifi Direct. Hoping Apple’s headset blows these things out of the water (which it’s looking like it will).

Per the lag issue, were you using a 5G or better network connection and wired cable between your PC and router? I think that fixes any lag issues.

No. It’s basically a dev kit and beta testing.

For you out there, hesitating to step into this world. Working with VR is a total different way of working. Workrooms is “the worst” way of doing it as the benefit is not useable. in immersed VR or vSpatial you can move the monitors to the distant or to the near witch sizes beyond “real world”
my typical setup is 3 in a row and sometimes one in the middle above and I grab the one I need for the moment, the others are still visible.
With you VR glasses well “fixed” with BoboVR straps it is easy to forget the real outside. Be equipped with logi mx mini and a mouse and give it a try

and don’t forget that screen capture cannot reflect the beauty (I mean that) of those world
I am working (my private world) for now a year in immersed VR, removed all real monitors at home and there is no going back. immersed is fedby an i7 intel nuc

So exciting! Instead of looking at my 3 monitors physically, I can look at them virtually…!?!?

I can work at a dark mahogany desk in VR, while I’m sitting at a plastic garden table I may have got off Facebook marketing for 10 bucks…nice!

Soon maybe I won’t need a fridge or food in it because my virtual hands will feed me virtual caviar.

Workrooms is pretty bad compared with Immersed. Video editing is impossible with the strange lag and compression artifacts that come up at random, even when connected to the computer via Wifi direct.
Saving for the apple headset, which will have 4K per eye resolution and will definitely work seamlessly with Macs.

Video editing is impossible with the strange lag and compression artifacts that come up at random, even when connected to the computer via Wifi direct. Try something as simple as watching a YouTube video and you’ll see the entire app just start to fail.

It is really weird how meta just throws out the mouse. I don’t like using my hands for what I did with my mouse. I guess tracking a mouse is too difficult.

  21. exodous02

    February 6, 2023 at 10:44 pm

I think you should try immersed. I really don’t think meta will ever have the standard conference app as theirs will only work on their headsets.

Do the 3 screens still only work with MacBooks? (making it useless if you don’t like Apple) Meta still have a LOT to do before this is even viable…let alone good enough to work in imo 😒

Seems crazy to me that hard-wired isn’t an option if lag is an issue! I REALLY want to do exactly what you are talking about. Do my work in VR. Then my office can be FAR more like an enjoyable space when I have people in it, but when I get to work, I work in a different space. I wonder whether anyone is doing research into eye damage. Many people are getting eye damage from looking at a flat surface monitor at the moment; I wonder if this will be better or worse.

      February 7, 2023 at 6:35 am

especially when you consider high performance VR games can be streamed from a pc to the quest without appreciable lag. Mybe the answer is just running productivity apps on mac linux or PC through steam..

This is garbage technology for a nightmare corporate dystopia. And the worst part is that it doesn’t even work.

  31. CheerDra

    February 7, 2023 at 5:07 am

Immersed VR is by far the best option for working in VR. Much more flexibility with the monitors, and the lag can be significantly down to 5 ms or less if you use the Wifi-direct feature.

It’s kind of frustrating the main stream media keeps focusing on Facebook when it comes to VR. So many other amazing apps and communities are there who have been living the VR life for years now but these main stream media keep making it seem like VR is still a useless niche with 5 people using it in total.

Why not just use multiple monitors? This is over complication for no reason and tries to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. So dumb.
