Background: Canadian Standards Association, as amended from time to time, may take 3 years to amend standards during a period in which one generation of smartphone supercomputers is 6 months, and artificial intelligence God mode, is likely 3 years away. CSA may currently force industry to use obsolete approaches and impedes adoption and adaptation of innovation and science. Impedes Canada’s adoption and adaptation of innovation. Impedes Canada’s peace, prosperity, youthfulness and longevity. On the other hand, CSA does have AI standards but it looks like they are not international law, yet. Elad Gil, High Growth Startups, implicitly states that solutions to global problems should be scaled globally. STAT.

Action Required: CSA Group needs to get up to speed. It can take the first step by implementing BloombergGPT approach. Essentially BloombergGPT uses 50% general data and 50% “Bloomberg proprietary data”. Simply substitute “3,000 published codes and standards and 100 years experience” for “Bloomberg proprietary data”! CSA Group needs to identify how they are impeding innovation or advancing it. On the other hand, if CSA has developed standards for artificial intelligence, CAN/CSA-Z3178-19,

Why haven’t these been published loud and long and clear because modern AI is Canadian? Why hasn’t Canada, the leader, adopted and adapted CAN/CSA-Z3178-19

    Into law?

If Microsoft breached CSA AI standards, is ChatGPT worth 30 billion dollars? Is Microsoft worth trillions? Or will they become a charitable donation to the legal profession? Ask your favorite class action lawyer.

All of which is intended for fact checking, investigation,  criticism and debate to improve CSA Group. Kinda like Red Team. It is not intended to be statements of facts by a peer because I’m an old man, not technical.

By way of background, Boosted.ai CEO publicly stated that from a technical perspective artificial intelligence is 90 years ahead of technical expectations and will probably reach extraordinary abilities in 3 years, or words to that effect… See Boosted.ai YouTube CEO talk. CSA

CSA Group is a global organization dedicated to safety, social good and sustainability. We are a leader in Standards Development and in Testing, Inspection and Certification around the world including Canada, the U.S., Europe and Asia. Our mandate is to hold the future to a higher standard.

The CSA Group is a Canadian organization that develops standards and guidelines for a wide range of industries and technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). They have developed several standards related to AI, which are listed below:

CAN/CSA-Z3178-19: Artificial Intelligence – Trustworthiness of AI Systems: This standard provides guidelines for ensuring that AI systems are trustworthy and reliable. It covers issues such as accountability, transparency, explainability, privacy, and security.

CAN/CSA-Z243.4-19: Management of Cybersecurity Risk – Guidance for Operational Technology: This standard provides guidance for managing cybersecurity risks in operational technology environments, such as those found in industrial settings. It includes specific guidance for managing risks associated with AI systems.

CAN/CSA-Z275-17: Certification of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems: This standard outlines a framework for certifying AI and machine learning systems. It covers issues such as data quality, model accuracy, and system reliability.

CSA Group Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence: The CSA Group has established a technical committee focused on AI. The committee is responsible for developing new standards and updating existing ones as needed.

Overall, these standards aim to promote the responsible development and deployment of AI systems and ensure that they are trustworthy, secure, and reliable.
