Your lawyer is working for the same corporation the judge, police and prison are in. Ppl stop thinking they are your friend. It hurts to see this BS presentation. Their entire purpose is to make a profit from you (yes you are worth millions to them).

    • Rob Berra

      February 9, 2023 at 8:49 pm

Judges and police don’t work for a corporation.
Prisons shouldn’t either, but there are far too many for-profit prisons.

“the judge would have never heard Atticus tell his own story”… uhm I’m not an expert in US law but isn’t a bond hearing just a preliminary hearing before the main trial? so the story would’ve been heard during the main hearing?

Also there is a reason why people are told to shut up. A trial follows rules so it has some structure to it and it does not end in utter chaos.

Thank you, Sir, we need more attorneys like you who fight for justice.

I’ve personally been in a divorce proceeding where my attorney sexually harassed me. I reported it, and the Judge hearing the case did everything possible to leave me with nothing from the settlement.

It’s the “old boys club”… misogynistic men in positions of power making decisions for women, choosing women’s outcomes. Sickening, isn’t it! Family Law Reform is necessary in North America. We need a new system that takes the decision making away from MEN and allow our peers (as a jury) to make the decisions to do with women and their children.
There are Facebook groups for more information, some smaller changes have started to be made.
      Changes are coming.

The title of this is misleading. It the video doesn’t say anything about how to do what the title says. It reiterates the fact that the only way to participate in your own legal defense & speak directly for yourself is with the permission of the legal system.

I understand & agree with most of the liberal self expression these days but there’s such a thing as going too far & I hold Ted Talks responsible for this – green lipstick on a man, a lawyer for that matter, on your global stage? Seriously? Green lipstick?
Hey Ted – ever heard of “professionalism?” Same for the lawyer. You are undermining your cause with your appearance. How do you think your clients & the people who depend on you to further their cause feel about you looking this way at a Ted Talk? Do you wear green lipstick in the court room? No? Why? Would it be considered unprofessional by your peers and clients? Ted Talks are a gathering of professionally minded people and not a party. Didn’t the Grammys just overload us with this out of control ridiculousness? I quit watching that circus.

C’mon Ted. My respect for you continues to eroded.

I am in complete agreement with you on this. If you are if fact an attorney, and I doubt you are, only an idiot would walk into a court room with you. It is a court of law not a circus act. Wear your clown outfit during your own time.
Ted Talks what are you trying to prove. How ridiculous the speakers can get before the general public starts to question what has happened to the management of your enterprise?

  24. Sloane

    February 10, 2023 at 12:43 am

I can’t take him seriously because he used the word “piss” in his speech and the blue lipstick. He wouldn’t be taken seriously in a court of law. His ideas wouldn’t work in real life. Good lawyers guide their clients and clients don’t need the burden of the decision making. The whole reason we get paid is to take over their defense. Also, he is not a great public speaker. A great attorney needs to have near perfect oral advocacy skills.

First minute of this vid and I already take issue with the premise. So what the legal system shows the most “vicitmised” version of a person, its called making a case. If my lawyer doesn’t make one that paints me as the most victim i can be (giving me the best chance at winning) I don’t want them. The begining story is sad to be sure, but if he was the lawyer isn’t it his fault she emabresssed herself before going up? All it would take is like two sentences of explanation about what to do when testifying. People go to school for almost a decade to understand this stuff, silly to think you can do much in your defence than just not hurt your case.

I understand the reasoning for this TEDtalk but I disagree with the conclusion. If you have a lawyer that doesn’t allow you to share your story appropriately then you need a new lawyer. — I love the lipstick and self expression! Random uppity snobs in the comments acting like lipstick affects professionalism or intelligence are the ones whose professionalism and intelligence I question!

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
