Through the challenges of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, architect and humanitarian Slava Balbek, who volunteers part-time on the front lines, highlights the importance of designing for dignity when building temporary housing for the people of Ukraine who have lost their homes. A stirring reminder of the healing power of the built environment — and how it can provide comfort amidst chaos.

Why don’t you go in 2014 to Donetck and do not spent there 8 years, when Ukraine was shelling ths city and kill more then 15000 civilians?

    • @katefedorchenko2783

      February 23, 2024 at 8:44 am

Well, he could have and yet it would lead to nothing because Ukraine was not killing civilians in Donetsk, or Luhans’k, or any other Ukrainian town, city or village. Ukraine was invaded my russia. How do I know? Well, I’m from Donetsk region, I live in Kharkiv now and I now what life in Ukraine was like before russia invaded us and what it is like now. Side note, I could also literally see with my own eyes missiles flying from Belgorod, the city in Russia, to Kharkiv from my balcony. I can’t see this anymore because russians have moved their missiles launching vehicles to another place. Also, you should come up with another propaganda claim because everyone already knows very well that this is Russia that was and is bombing us

In the middle of the night I wake up because of an emergency alarm. I put my warm and soft clothes on. Make a thermos with a hot black tea, always with some sugar and lemon to keep the level of serotonin high. Then I take some stools, blankets and a mat for my dog. Then I wake up my dog and we go down to our shelter. Oh, the snacks for the dog are also always in my pocket! Nice and cozy 😌 as it can be during an air strike…

This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
