“If we take care of the land, the land takes care of us,” says Indigenous leader Valérie Courtois. As climate change continues to devastate the planet, Indigenous guardians are helping to honor our responsibility to the land, monitoring water quality, conducting research and working to restore key species. Courtois invites us all to support the guardians working to ensure that humanity has a future on Earth — and to discover that healing the land can transform us as well.

The land will take care of us for a very long period of time. Definitely not forever because 5 billion years later the sun will explode and Earth will disappear.

What a lovely thought, but indigenous people dont run the world. I’m a native American and I have always been a steward of the earth and it hasn’t made a difference in the world. Humanity is doomed.

The ignorant and hateful comments made here mean that the writers of those comments didn’t listen to the message. From, « the speaker isn’t as moving as other speakers » to « woke politics » wow – you really didn’t hear the message. There are indigenous guardians out there helping to heal not only the Earth from trauma but human bodies from trauma – that’s HUGE. When we treat the Earth like we wish to be treated, the Earth will take care of us. And I DO hope people WAKE UP. These Earth Guardians are helping us indirectly, whether or not you realize it and appreciate it. Your resistance to positive change and your ignorant comments will not stop people from doing what’s right and moving humanity forward. Have a healthy and peaceful New Year.

I didn’t see hateful messages. I guess they were so bad that they were removed. Growing up in Canada, unfortunately I’m not surprised by the hatred and ignorance against Indigenous People. It’s very sad that every Indigenous Person in this country has been affected by the Residential School System which took away their families, culture and their message of respecting the Earth. They are continued to be blamed for what happened. Now non-Indigenous are trying to use Indigenous culture to help the Earth and heal themselves but call it something else and try to profit off of it. It’s disgusting. I hope all Indigenous People through out the world can find healing and a way back to their cultures.

What do you mean when you say “what is now known as Canada?” If you care for each other why are the cities being flooded with unemployable indigenous people. Why did the native population explode by 40% since 2012? Please show us the land you have sustained more than anyone else in Canada. Why do you support the Ekati open pit diamond mine that works collaboratively with Indigenous leaders? You lash out at every Canadian as colonialists and settlers yet you take our money by the billions per month. Your hatred of anyone outside your circle is astonishing.

Every culture in human history has this story in their culture. Obviously when you’re primitive and your entire existence depends upon crops, weather, sun, etc etc. That’s where this “mother” term comes from and the Father is the Sun. The moon controls the tides etc, maybe they’re having a threesome or something. Look taking care of the planet is common sense and all ancient cultures knew this. The issue is money. Always has been always will be. Get rid of money completely and the competitive drive to be more and have more than everybody else and humanity and the Earth will naturally fix itself. God bless!!!

In a part of the United States with more than 17,000 years of human history, cultural preservation advocate Tracie Revis is working to turn the Ocmulgee Mounds into Georgia’s first national park and preserve. This park would be co-managed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, bringing the tribal voice back to an area they were forcibly removed from 200 years ago. Revis explores the complex feelings of caring for this land and shows how it’s fostering healing in return.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
