The convenience of the Flip just makes whatever other shortcuts it has irrelevant, Downside is the wife wants one as well.

I like the curated approach Samsung is taking. That front screen should be the exception

Oh for F sake All you reviews Not happy you can still see the crease let’s see you make it coz I bet you have a crease too and as for price You moaning you want this and that well coz money R&D raw materials and convert them into what ever …Wish You lot Grow up live in real world Like you are Perfect .if M/soft ,Apple etc waited before they released The PERFECT product You want you me etc all be on our death beds Waiting . So next time you review something Stop and THINK what you gone say and STOP reviewing it like YOU could make it Perfect with the Same materials development etc for example your crying over can see the crease . See how they managed after redesign and development they able come up with a design so phone could fully shut without copyright copying etc.

      July 29, 2023 at 5:31 pm

Uhhhh. The fold “folds” like a book. The flip “flips” like a pad

  16. Smartphonefan52

    July 29, 2023 at 4:02 pm

Even though the Z Flip5 is a clamshell foldable, I am happy to see that smaller phones are making a comeback. Hopefully this makes Apple either release a new iPhone mini or a clamshell foldable.

  17. Nothing to see here

    July 29, 2023 at 4:31 pm

It’s great that the hinge is flatter, but the more impactful aspect would be getting to a fully flat screen when open. Who cares if the hinge is 1mm thicker if the screen looks smooth and uniform when using it? If they’d prioritize that, I’d be getting one to match my wife’s. The screen ripple is just too bad for me to spend $1K on it.

Controversial opinion: I’m OVER super-thin phones. I’d much rather have a larger battery and more robust camera hardware.

Am I the only one that thinks it silly to expect to not see a crease on a foldable phone….. I have the z flip 4 and its barely noticeable

  21. Ray Jay

    July 29, 2023 at 6:59 pm

I don’t know why people complain ahout the crease. It’s a FLIP! ????????????

    • Ray Jay

      July 29, 2023 at 9:23 pm

It’s like complaining you had a tan line even if you’re using SPF 118+ cream. You wanted the sun, then you’ll get that line – the same with flip. It will be there, if don’t like it, get the S23! Just my two cents.

  22. Aaron Council

    July 29, 2023 at 8:00 pm

Not sure we need a flip phone. It seems to be very niche other than look I have this new cool phone that folds.

Nice report. Those photos look a little fuzzy. Does the phone have DEX feature?

  24. Gilbert Galvan

    July 29, 2023 at 9:33 pm

Too bad the camera still sucks, and still no Dex. Come on Samsung.

  25. Belznis

    July 29, 2023 at 9:42 pm

This is great as you can again put the phone inside those wallets you put on your wrist, so this makes a watch obsolete and you can spend the money on just a phone.

Stop giving Samsung a pass for limiting the functionality of the outer display. I’d rather have the option and not use it than not have it at all. It’s not Samsung’s job to “curate” what we do with our phones when they’re closed. Motorola did it right.

    • Ian S

      July 30, 2023 at 10:31 am

You can turn on all apps for the front screen if you want to.

What do you hear when you sit in silence? For artist Rose B. Simpson, that question is the beginning of all art. She comes from a line of ceramic artists stretching back generations and, as part of her multidisciplinary work, she also builds custom lowrider cars. (If that sounds like a contradiction, that’s kind of the point.) In conversation with “Design Matters” podcast host Debbie Millman, Simpson invites you to find your own aesthetic — not by searching, but by listening.
