Only one person can watch a show or movie at a time so it cant replace a home theater or TV screen. To watch an immersive show with someone you would need to spend $7,000+ just for entertainment

Knowing how some companies/government departments through around money I wouldn’t be surprised if this is primarily sold to businesses as least initially

@I am Smiley i agree but it’s very rare for companies to spend money on expensive equipment for their employees benefit. I worked at a Fortune 500 marketing company and got a 4 year old mac book for work… some start ups might want to use it or very cash rich companies.

Optometrists already use VR to actually treat some eye conditions, so you should be fine.

For those complaining about the price. Let me tease you the Apple Vision announced in 2024 and released in 2025. It’ll have a price of only $1500 dollars, all thanks to the removal of the M2 chip, a few sensors, external batttery and display. Instead you connect it to your iPhone. This provides about 6 hours of use due to optimisation, reduction of sensors and external display removal. Sure you will still spend $3k+ in the end when you factor in the phone cost but at least now you can justify the $1500 goggles add on.

  14. Galaxy CHAD

    June 5, 2023 at 7:19 pm

It doesn’t seem to do anything new really compared to anything currently on the market. It’s got useless gimmicks like being able to see the eyes of the user through the headset, and facetime. It’s really hard to tell who the audience is for this, no controllers so it’s not for gamers, huge price tag so it’s not for casual movie streaming audience. The price and external battery pack are both two massive downsides that I can’t ignore when the meta quest 3 seems to do basically everything this thing does while being 3000 dollars cheaper than the vision pro, especially when the vision pro looks like something that’s still in it’s prototype stages. Apple’s got a long way to go before they can even think of competing with meta when it comes to the VR headset market.

Well there is only 1 product like this already, and this looks quite a bit better at the same price. What are you comparing it to? You seem to be comparing a mixed reality headset to a virtual reality one? They are very different things you know

PS VR 3 will be the real deal trust and much cheaper

    • Darko Bert

@Drenwickification This is both in one MR and VR

    • Drenwickification

      June 5, 2023 at 7:34 pm

@Darko Bert well exactly, so it’s silly to compare it to headsets that are only VR when mixed reality has so much more potential.

I suspect that Apple’s missing an “oomph” with this product. There is no incentive for a lot of people to purchase such a product.

What made the iPhone different was not the touch screen, but the App Store. I feel like Apple needs to find Vision Pro’s “App Store” equivalent. Something that would entice people to purchase the product, in spite of the actual price tag. Watching movies seems cool, talking to friends seems cool, but what else can it do that makes me want to get it now? Idk that’s my personal opinion, although I’m sure Apple has an entire team dedicated to researching this specific topic lol

This will sell to the same folks who spend 5+ grand on an e-bike or lease Tesla Plaids or collect any number of luxury watch brands….thats actually a pretty big market and this is a most insane new toy for them. Additionally, lots of die-hard Apple Fans will max-out their credit cards. The first iteration will sell like hotcakes….subsequent versions, faster, more compact with better “glass”, selling for half the price, will be even more popular. Apple has a hit on their hands…competitors will only be able to counter by offering a less capable product at a Lower price. That is not Apple’s Jam….the Vision Pro will always be a “premium” device.

    Vision Pro, Vision Poor
I once fell in love with a story about Steve Jobs. I have no way to confirm it actually happened, or happened this way, but it is a rare instance where I am happy to perpetrate the myth over facts since it is such an important story for how Apple got to where they are, that the narrative caries with it so much more weight than the truth.
The story goes that some engineers showed up in Jobs’ office with a one-off prototype for the iPod. It was bulky, about the size of a Sony Walkman, and could not fit into the pocket of Steve’s Levi’s 501 classic fit jeans.
“It needs to be smaller, thinner,” Steve said.
“There’s no room left to make it smaller!” Decried the engineers, at which Steve replied by dropping this device, which was the only prototype and represented probably millions of dollars in R&D, into his office’s fish tank.
“You see those air bubbles…?” Steve asked of them.
In the 80’s, Steve’s behavior was barely tolerated, and in that era, a lot of CEO’S and “pre-social influencers” most likely got away with a lot worse. It is exactly that ability, to create a space so toxic, and so full of pressure, that it absolutely wrings every bit of ingenuity out of you, as if it were necessary for continued survival. This is exactly what Apple needs to take the so-called vision pro to where it needs to be, and to take its place as the rightful heir to the iPhone throne.
In the face of out-of-control size, both the bulk on the device and the hefty bulk of its price tag, apple has invented something that cannot do what it is supposed to, and needs to do. Put simply, the size, mass and price tag, get in the way.
One might be forgiving of Apple, since it is not often that they will go to market with a first gen product like this…. But then apple gave us all the finger…
Everyone agrees that Google was ahead of their time when they tried to develop the Google Glass. Everyone. Truly, they could’ve taken some time to go back to the drawing board and relaunch, but they didn’t. So forever they are tainted by the advent of “glass holes” in this arena, and apple is well on their way to follow them into disgrace.
I’ll cut straight to the chase: if it is on my face, I don’t want to interact with it. Google glass suffered from eye twitches and gesture navigation at a time when people still had confusion over if you were talking on Bluetooth or to yourself, and while the bare-hand pinch navigation is a def improvement and would be handy in some kind of setup, customization, or calibration menu, it has no place in everyday use. I want to look at an automobile and just SEE the specs on it, year make and model. Hell, give it a few years and a small computer onboard newly-produced cars could prob feed to you liquid levels, mileage, and engine diagnostics. This is how I use my eyes. I just look at things, examine their details. This is exactly what vision should aid me in, be a tool for. I shouldn’t have to “pinch its buttcheek” to entice it to do better the work it is supposedly ascribed to do.
And then there is the form factor. Geeze, I’d pay serious money I do not have (millennial, duh) to be a fly on the wall in an alternate timeline where some hapless engineer brought that massive, gigantic eyesore into Steve Jobs’ office. I suspect there’d have been great turmoil for all parties involved, Steve included.
To summarize what i think about the new Vision Pro? It needs to be dropped into a fish tank. And not for any reason other than this: do better, Apple.
