This device can be used to locate nearby hospital when in emergency at unknown city when phone battery dies or where internet connection is poor (I’m assuming this uses way less data than smartphone maps) so that one can reach hospital quickly

Hey, how about doing something similar but with a rotating slide of pizza shaped pointer, with a led display with the remaining distance? And maybe with multiple buttons to select nearby pizza, bookstore, electronics, market, etc? Well, that would defeat the purpose of the pizza pointer, but it would be cool.

Maybe you could sell these with a buyer set query. They can put it in whatever kind of case they want and it will point to whatever they select. It would be awesome great promotional item. How about one that points to the nearest bar that sells a particular beer, wine or liquor, or one to point to the nearest taco truck, or the nearest place to charge your phone. You could even make it run a virtual treasure hunt that leads people to interesting places on the way to a party that would be really hard to crash because its location would not be published until just about time to head that way. I bet someone does something like this for defcon, perhaps with increasing difficulty each night…

just saying you hid your gps coordinates but quick google search shows where that pizza place is (when you tested it in the prototype) and since its supposed to be the closest and there are other pizza shops near by its pretty easy to figure out a pretty small area you could be in. sorry just a warning some times people can find things out even with minor data

6 minutes in, I’m wondering how he will set up the direction/wayfinding.
Like is he going to set up a route and have the compass direct people along a path? Or is he going to just say “hey nearest pizza place is in this direction, good luck”
If the latter, I’m assuming a distance indicator would be necessary. But it would be cooler than “hey you have to go in this opposite direction for a bit until you get around this huge building and NOW you’re going to start walking in the direction that actually brings you physically closer”

I’d be curious to know how much this whole thing actually costs.
As an idea, I would add a screen with prefilled names of places in alphabetical order and have the user select one and it point in the right location.
You want a movie theater? *points. You want an italian place? *points. personal handy gps.

It is a dumbed version of Jack Sparrow’s compass that does not points north. If you tweak the code to include possibility of changing destinations and you package it like Jack Sparrow’s peace, than it becames real not just a movie prop. You’re close. It should point to the thing you want most in this world.
