How much does the truck weigh with the battery. How much remains for payload? Their is a maximum weight allowed on the roads. When will they talk about this.

    • odisy64

      December 3, 2022 at 12:21 am

the truck will likely be around 25,000 pounds. its legal limit is a gross capacity of 82,000 pounds.

This should been done they complain about cars but these ships, trucks, planes cause way more pollution than any car on the street

Elon says you can drive with no training. That’s not good. Anyone rolling 80k down the highway should be trained. A semi is not a car. Much more affected by wind, cornering speeds, and even braking is different, even if it is ev.

I just hope the demand for electricity with lot can keep up! The only way to do this realistically is nuclear power stations, and of course when these the inevitable accident with these bloody thing, we’ll the environment will be the least of all our worries At least until the 24th century going by Chernobyl!

This is great hope that the Cybertruck won’t have towing mileage issues like all of the other EV trucks on the market. Hopefully Tesla is learning on the Semi and transferring knowledge and tech into the Cybertruck.

TOWING is the achilles heel of all EV trucks today. Hopefully not the CT.

Keep in mind society is used to these huge vehicles moving slow in traffic. Now imagine the number of accidents that will come with trucks that can speed through traffic. Now what about the weight of these trucks, we have a max of 80k lbs so how much is left for your load with this heavy electric truck. Electric cars are around twice as much weight as a normal combustion vehicle.

Bill Gates said this was impossible 🤭 he severely underestimated Elons ability to put together the smartest minds in the business. How well they hold up still remains to be seen but I trust tesla more than the other auto makers.

the air in the cities wont be cleaner with this than with any new diesel , as the new diesels actualy clean the exhaust AND all the air it sucks in for particles, meaning that they are actualy cleaning the air. Also , since we are FAR away from having enough green energy, every new electric truck or car added to the roads just means more coal usage. Coalplants emits very bad particles, and no, coalplants do not filter this out. Bring the nuclear plants and im all in, with enough energy even hydrogen starts to make sense. LOVE Elon for what he is doing for freedom! Not so much for supporting the greenwave BS that Klaus Schwab and the gang use as a tool to control the world.

Avoiding the CO₂ drought challenging the viability of this planet (abs. min. is 150ppm, Earth has experienced 6,000ppm safely, we have recorded a low of 224ppm) is Science denial. There is more than enough reason to build hybrids with enough battery capacity merely to overcome the expected high power situations (hills). These ‘donkey motor’ generators can be optimised for CO and NOx emission control. Battery size is thereby reduced/payload is increased. Retaining existing infrastructure for fuel; and restore freedom to range and movement. However for the inner city eTrucks are essential (air quality/noise). Big money will be in manufacturing renewable long-chain hydrocarbons (greases, oils, etc.) We might get by with magnetic bearings but not pistons.

I’ve seen these things on the road occasionally between socal and NV. It’s pretty cool seeing it just destroy a hill climb with the torque electric gets.
Electric makes a lot of sense for trucks as long as you can charge it back up or have enough extra battery. Can run the cab stuff as well without the diesel going.

So no north Cali not great testing Fremont to San Diego majority flat roads up north is best to test hills every 4 miles you don’t have huge flats you get way better range testing and everything the flats that’s bs trucking real truckers go everywhere not flats

with time requirements they really just need to make somehting that lasts that whole time and then can be charged overnight as the driver is sleeping, strictly solo driver case

  72. Auburn Man

    December 5, 2022 at 1:03 am

The left did not like it when he said he was a fan of nuclear lol. That aside, why can’t we find a way to have alternators on every wheel of the semi so it can be charged while driving?

  73. Karen Beth VinO

That was pretty neat ! Seeing vision come to life!

  74. M Chris Ciaccio

    December 5, 2022 at 1:24 am

I think I heard a 500 mile range? As a former tanker truck driver that is fine for hauling around a metro area, but not for long hauls. I normally drove 700-750 miles per day before pulling over to eat and sleep. Also there’s barely a place to park most of the time, how are truckers going to find a place to charge? What happens if theres a major weather event or you run out of juice? You cant just have a service bring 20 gallons of diesel to get you down the road to a fuel station.I think this would be fine for fleet trucks that are back at the terminal the end of the day, otherwise I cant see this working. The average range for all trucks I drove was close to 1000 miles before refueling. With all of the b.s federal regulations about how much and when you can drive I can’t see how your going to fit hours of recharge time in also. Only if you find a parking spot that has a charger while you are sleeping . Elon,go live in a semi truck on the road for a few weeks! How about start with a hybrid diesel.

  75. LifeRx

    December 5, 2022 at 1:26 am

With a 80,000 lb gross weight maximum hauling of semi trucks and knowing how Fords EV truck range decreased substantially while the truck was under load, it’s going to be very interesting to see what the range of a EV “semi truck” will be while under similar loads. What’s more is the grade of charging station required to power such a massive battery.
I can’t predict the future, but it’s very difficult to see battery displacing diesel as much as it may be needed to find an alternative. Hydrogen fuel cells are a more likely contender in the realm of heavy load hauling at great distance.
