22:00 To say that 2008 wasn’t as bad as we have it today is the most asinine comment I’ve ever heard in my life.

Goolsbee basically said what is a fact, money is a faith based system and if we loose faith in it, what we will have is just piles of paper. The US Congress has done a horrible job for decades with helping to make the faith of money strong. Instead the wealthy have taken more and probably the biggest single issue is stock options. That is the biggest reason executives end up making hundreds or thousands of times more than the average worker at their company. The flood of money to these executives has given them the ability to takeover governments.
The lobbying system in the US is just a legal bribe system and members of the US Congress have just been soaking it up, for many decades. There was a time when members of Congress would introduce themselves as a representing some corporation. That was prior to the 1930’s. I fear we are heading back to those ways. I guess it is more honest if a member of the US Congress mentions who their biggest financial backer is when introducing themselves.

Gold does have inherent value. Go read a book about something other than money and abstract finances. It’s immensely useful in industry and has many uses as catalysts as well as in electrochemistry and countless more fields. If it didn’t have value we wouldn’t have been using it for things for nearly 10,000 years. Every element has a near infinite amount of uses especially ones with less common properties. That being said paper moneys value as a token still has real utility.

4:02 help me understand why the fed continues to target 2% inflation year over year when we’ve suffered recent inflation far above that number. What’s wrong with having a couple of years of NEGATIVE inflation? Why can’t prices come down for a change??

Some people the billionaires have not made any sacrifices, or felt any sort of “pinch by the economy” they seem to always spend more when things are difficult for everyone else

Wages not going is very simple: Union busting. No Union = Employees have zero cards on the table. Employers can choose to abuse employees within a “legal” parameter and all the employee can do is move on to another company. Which is exactly what everyone does. jumping jobs every 2-5y.

Obviously you have never dealt with AI on a phone call. It’s not just employment that’s an issue. It is the fact that we are all forced to deal with machines instead of people. Computers have shown over and over that they can’t deal with subtlety. AI has exactly the same problem. AI will make some things better, just as computers have, but it will force us to spend hours trying to find an answer that a human being could give us in two minutes.
