Why everyone talk so many about greenhouse gases but nobody speaks about direct heating of the planet? I mean, most of thermal machines powered by fossil fuels have efficiency somewhere in-between 25-35%, so to simplify lets say 70% off fossil energy is wasted. Where does it goes? In heat. So when you drive your car, or when you use electricity produced by natural gas power plant 70% of fuel just heats the planet. The planet have thermal balance, just like in elementary school physics: energy income – energy outcome = energy change. 200 year ago there were no fossils fuels, so thermal energy income was produced only by the sun, but now we take a solid/liquid energy out of the ground and transform it to a heat.

I know how we can cool the planet really quickly. Drop a nuke into a super-volcano, and let it do it’s thing. Problem solved. It should also go a long way to curtailing our fossil fuel use.

Aircraft are actually becoming far more efficient than other modes of travel (when looking at the amount of energy used per person per mile). It’s a fairly old misconception that aircrafts are inefficient, the aviation industry has been advancing its efficiency a lot faster than other modes of transportation recently.

Fixing commercial aviation doesn’t have to be an all or nothing where we pick one energy source or the other. It seems to me that they can cut down on their fossil fuel use by introducing hybrid systems. That way, they can rely on electric power while cruising in the sky and reserve the fuel for take offs and landings.

The climate has constantly changed throughout the history of the earth and yet, here we are… But this time the rate of change gives me chills. I studied environmental science. I watched many system simulations. Most complex systems seem resilient with slow changes over thousands of years or short glitches, but they tend to collapse in unpredictable ways given fast parameters changes.. A bit like braking or accelerating too quickly on a bicycle, even if there is no problem riding at slow or high speed, on the long run.

I have my own question. So we once had ice age and later that ice melted meaning earth got warmer. Well no human could have contributed to that heating. So how are we sure that Earth is warming because of us? Maybe Earth is undergoing its natural cycle of warming just like during the end of ice age. Maybe our co2 emission is masking this natural cycle.

    Any thoughts about it ?

One answer for all of us. We are all F****d, and there is not much we can do
Plastic, is everywhere, cans, bottles, caps, clothes, container of one use, people dont use glass
plus nowdays situation over gas made coal a “option” again we are reopening nuclear plants
Fukushima, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Nevada, New Mexico, the pacific, the sky, Chernobyl all of them were either a nuclear failure or a nuclear test site, I mean we almost nuked the moon, we are responsible for several species goin extinct or almost extinct, forests and jungles on fire, hail the size of baseballs, snow on egypt, floods on desertland. And Of course the war which one. ukraine?, pakistan vs israel, isis, Ethpia, Cabo delgado, sierra Leona, the narco, etc so which war again?
Lets stay positive. Lets at least try for those who will be the next children. Children getting oldre but still being children teaching other kids on how to be an adult, its always been like that

While I do not dispute climate change, one thing about the entire movement is void of any sound logic.

If we’re worried about ice caps melting and rising sea levels, why do Bill Gates and all these “climate change” politicians currently own or plan to buy beach front property?

The thing is that stopping fossil fuels and agriculture production would result in a massive loss of life. They literally sustain our population. Yes, there are profits too because, well capitalism, but that’s how our entire society is set up. People warm their houses, cook their food, earn a living all thanks to fossil fuels. That’s why turning them off is so unpopular – because billions of people would have to lower their standard of living and billions more would die without them. We don’t have realistic alternatives yet, on the scale required. Climate activist need to stop trying to frighten people into action with what would happen in the future because their proposed solution in this video would dramatically adversely affect people’s lives now and that’s why governments aren’t acting. In order to preserve human life we should instead be focussed on transition into sustainability, and adaptation to the new climate. Basically we are being presented with two dramatic options: keep fossil fuels and kill the planet. Or stop fossil fuels and potentially kill a huge proportion of the population. Both are bad! Adaption. That’s the key. Keep studying, keep finding out more and more about our planet and how we can live in harmony with it, sustainably, without huge loss of life.

i learned the difference between ‘global warming’ and ‘global heating’ in like 8th grade. the later is to explain our current *exponential* increase in warmth around the globe, like the good ol’ doctor explains here.
it drives me insane when i see media/political people implying that cause the earth warms and cools naturally over THOUSANDS OF YEARS, it means we shouldn’t be worried about our detrimental impact on the environment right now.

  63. Fabrice Bankhauser

    October 27, 2022 at 9:30 pm

I have 3 issues with this:
    1. At 4:14, heating is ONLY caused by gas emissions? It must be a much more complex thing than just being carbon emission, like solar activity, water vapor, etc
    2. At 9:44, why should it be flat? Temperature were going up and down long before we started to put carbon in the atmosphere and CO2 levels were also fluctuating before
    3. At 13:13, climate was changing even before we starting doing those things so why now climate change should stop if we stop them?

And further, EXTREME TAXES on anything to with animal agriculture!
    That will solve EVVEERRRYTHING!!!
Environmental issues and animal cruelty, getting our people to eat better, politicians will get back in line, solving government budget crisis, etc.

Great video – politicians around the world in denial of simple facts should be forced to watch this on a loop 😉
I would pitch a slightly different view on aviation problem though – I agree most definitely batteries aren’t the solution, nor are bio fuels, but synthetic fuels produced using renewable energy could well be the answer….they arent a silver bullet but they behave like a fossil fuel, and are much closer to the ideal of emitting only the carbon they use to produce thereby maintaining the status quo rather than adding to the problem. Obviously the tech needs scaled to meet the needs of the global aviation industry, but with the stoke of a Government policy pen it could happen overnight if the will was there, as petrochemical companies would very quickly switch their R&D budget to sucking carbon out of the air rather than digging it out of the ground if Government policy incentivized it (give a tax break for synthetic fuel production and it would happen immediately, at scale)

      October 28, 2022 at 9:46 pm

I’m no expert but I think that basically nothing is free. The drag cause by the “windmill ” or turbine or whatever would cause more drag , thus using the same amount of energy that you are creating, so net=zero. The old perpetual motion problem.

    • Kimberly Farrell

      October 28, 2022 at 10:15 pm

@Tony Riddle I was thinking the turbine would actually be housed within the aircraft, and the wind diverted to it, it would have to be encased I would think but that’s as far as I can get without expertise. Mostly a thought experiment anyway, I have no way to create or inspire LOL

We should have massive solar thermal power plants near the ocean. Pull in sea water and boil the water off completely. Then the dry salt can be dumped into massive container ships to travel to the far North Atlantic and add salt to counter the freshwater melt. The clean water produced is then used to produce food. Excess salt can be transported by trains to abandon mines and filled in. The main expanse is set up. Then it makes money. Imagine if the entire north coast of Africa was lined with solar thermal. You could support millions of people.

How about this as a new argument, well if it’s going up “naturally” should we just let it and add to it and help it along? What’s wrong with trying to reverse engineer it back to where we need it even if it’s “natural” Hello, life and deaths of our own children now. We should just let the planet warm up naturally and a mass extinction happen to us because it’s natural?

And as for the planet question asking is there another planet we can live on…. yeah there is but we absolutely can not get to any of em outside our solar system… and Mars is far off worse than our big blue marble. But yeah there is other so called earth out in the universe it’s a no Brainer.. but with the current systems we can’t reach em atm.. in the future I’m sure we will be able to but right now we cant. And as for global warming the earth goes through this naturally… it’s what your scientist forgot to mention that… it’s just a push for green energy that is way to costly and uses a ton of fossile fuels to produce.. so no green energy is fully green.. and yes the earth would heat up on it’s own Regardless of burning coal n oil.. the earth will heat up and naturally drop Temps going into a ice age.. it happens alot..

I have questions: Doesn’t rain formation depend on a cold upper atmosphere and ice crystals forming into grapple that falls and melts? If it is hotter in the upper atmosphere how is rain going to form at all? Won’t the upper atmosphere expand? Or has it already expanded which is a much larger area for water vapor to expand into? And what about the exploding craters in permafrost areas. I thought that permafrost heating has led to massive bacterial action and a spectacular contribution to methane in the atmosphere. And lastly I have really really wondered how the lack of ozone affects permafrost and the frozen poles. Ice does evaporate. Has anyone studied if different radiations impact the poles and speed ice loss through below freezing evaporation?

And then the decline of the effects will take hundreds if not thousands of years before we return to pre-industrial levels.

The global warming has so far been extremely slow with a trend of 0,14c/decade, it’s almost unnoticeable and especially americat and australia still get their typical cold shots, just a week ago some cities in americat had their day-temperature low broken. Europe however get less cold since it’s so close to massive bodies of water, US is also one of the few places in the world where lingers of the little ice age left quite recently, around 1920.

The global warming for the last 150 years is caused by a combination of a couple of factors, like recovery after the little ice age, ozone depleting chemicals through 1965-1995 and the strongest average sunspot period for at least 600 years.

The biggest impact of climate change isn’t that the sea level will rise a few inches or that summer will be a few degrees hotter. It will be a massive increase in tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms (paradoxically enough) and other extreme weather events.
According to actual climate models, our climate should actually be _cooling_ right now. The fact that it’s warming at all shows that it’s not the result of natural phenomena.

There is one way to carbon capture that doesn’t require technology – trees. Plant trees or stop deforesting them. They are natures carbon sink. We must be one with nature and be sustainable.

    • Pᴀʀᴀsᴇʟᴇɴᴇ Tᴀᴏ

      November 1, 2022 at 12:10 am

Have you figured out how many trees that would take?

I’ll spoil it for you: roughly 200 billion trees must be grown to offset only(!) the USA’s carbon emmisions. At roughly 60,000 trees per square mile that’s 3.3 million square miles of forest that we have to plant in the USA. The entire USA is 3.8 million square miles. The USA is already 30% forest, and not all of that 70% of remaining land can grow trees. There’s literally not enough room in the USA for the amount of trees.

Even if we did 1/100 of that plan: it’s still 33,000 square miles of land we want to plant trees on. Such a tenchincal feat has never even been accomplished. That’s the size of medium-to-small sized US state. It would be amazing to get that done, but 1% of the problem wouldn’t fix the climate crisis.

I still support living a sustainable, green lifestyle. I think you need to educate yourself more on the topic. Read Drawdown by Paul Hawken. Read a few other textbooks on climate change. I wish you the best.

I think you’re adding too much emphasis on animal methane. Those kind of animals have been around way longer than humans have. It’s just a fraction of the bigger picture. Mulching produces about the same as a cow…. An alternative fossil fuel is what we need to find and all the governments can start by making all of their buildings run on solar period.

      November 1, 2022 at 6:50 pm

All current warming is caused by humans. The earth was in a cooling phase over the last 9,000 years and would have continued to slowly slowly cool if not for humans injecting massive amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere.

    November 1, 2022 at 6:37 pm

One of the things that is rarely addressed is our assumption that humanity is going to continue to exist in our current numbers. I don’t think that is going to happen. What will happen in Europe or the south east United States when we start having prolonged periods of 120 to 130 degrees F. ? There is going to be A LOT of death of all kinds of animal life. Including us. What happens to crops when this happens? What happens when we even more regularly see the kind of flooding that we have been having in the primary agricultural parts of the country, where farmers simply can’t plant… when there is no longer enough food.
What happens to agriculture in the West and Southwest when the current drought continues and continues and continues? When the great aquifers laid down in the last ice age are completely depleted? And this is not considering the terrifying effectiveness of pandemics now. And what happens to the social structures we have built over centuries that allowed humans to thrive? We are already seeing the beginning of that breakdown. We will NOT all survive …. I think it will be remarkable if even 50% of us survive, and so so many of the fellow creatures we love are teetering on the edge of extinction. We are pretending that everything is somehow going to turn out. This is like driving a car without breaks towards a cliff and expecting that the car is somehow going to grow breaks between where you are and the cliff edge.

There’s plenty of other “scientists ” that disagree with the scare narrative this guy is a part of promoting.

13:40 He actually forgot to mention one crucial aspect of methane in the atmosphere: while it is true that methane only lasts there on average for ten years, the reaction that breaks down methane sees it reacting with oxygen to produce water and …carbon dioxide. So after spending ten years being 50 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than the most important one, it then reacts to become it.

Until those most responsible for climate change are actually threatened by it there is no realistic reason to expect that they will change the way they do business. I’d say that that will be far too late except that it is already far too late. We needed to get off of fossil fuels back when OPEC did an embargo in the 70’s. That should have been the wake up call but it wasn’t. We lost 50 years of progress that we could not afford to lose. Now you just spin the wheel and see what part of it will get you – The droughts, the heat waves, the fires, or the floods. Perhaps some of each since they aren’t mutually exclusive. There is no new normal and won’t be one for the foreseeable future. Each year will be worse than the last. Perhaps our species will make it to the other side of this, but I wouldn’t put any money on it.

The only way to stop climate change is to find a way to use and monetize these emissions (CO2, NO, Methane). People care way more about $$ than they do about helping other animals and plants. Nobody cared about fossil fuels until we figured out a way to monetize it. Nobody cared about oysters, lobsters, and caviar until it became fashionable/expensive. Hopefully some smart kids can figure out how to use and monetize the emissions because the adults currently have no reason to.

I disagree. There is plenty of evidence that bio-fuels (not a great solution, but at least almost carbon neutral) and hydrogen (needs more development to reduce production costs, but very promising) are very viable ways to de-carbonise air travel. The issue is cost, but mostly it’s political lobbying (due to cost).

Edit – I made this comment before the bio-fuel bit, but my point still stands. It “could’ be de-carbonised with the political will.

14:35 – the huge wildfires aren’t just caused by climate change. Small wildfires also don’t really kill the trees, allowing the forests to continue, while huge ones destroy everything in their path.

The effort to “stop climate change” is a losing effort. It would require the efforts of all countries to do this and there is no way that sort of coordination is possible. The world needs to stop focusing on stopping climate change and focus on mitigation of climate change. This guy talks about alternatives for our transportation needs.. like what? oh you mean electric cars.. the mining of those batteries that kills the planet even faster and it’s being done by children in 3rd world countries? or solar which is extremely inefficient and takes way to long to make any kind of impact, or perhaps wind? which technology is way behind on and costs way more to maintain than anything else and also barely scratches the surface of our energy needs. the moment he said he was an “activist” he lost me

He missed one fact. CO2 itself does not and cannot affect climate. Because CO2 is nearly 2x denser than air itself, with a molecular weight of 44 g/Mol vs. that of dry air at 28 g/Mol. CO2 remains at ground level where it is readily absorbed by plant life and the oceans which is why it is just a trace gas at 0.04% of atmospheric composition.

The rule of life is this: Extinction is the rule and not the exception. 99.99% of life that have lived on Earth are now extinct. Humans will become extinct too. It is not a question of IF but of WHEN.

10 million years? The rules of evolution is not as straightforward. The previous mass extinctions were more brutal and the causes were totally destructive. The current extinction is very mild in comparison. In fact many species are now being rediscovered and nicknamed Lazarus species for having been declared extinct only to resurface decades later.

  275. Jp Meyer

    November 6, 2022 at 9:52 pm

CO2? around 4/100ths of a percent of the atmosphere. We think humans contribute 3% of that 4/100ths of a percent. This trace gas is responsible for life as we know it on the planet. There has been more CO2 in the past with much a much colder climate and much less with a warmer climate. Del Sol, orbit variation, tilt, cosmic radiation and countless other inputs have a far greater impact than anything CO2 could possibly do. Why make CO2 the focus? You can measure it, therefore you can tax it. Try not to be kept in a constant state of fear.

Im still confused why warmer temperatures scares people? storms? Warmer climate means more food and places that are too cold to live now might be useable. No, I’m not a scientist. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. . .The good doctor is concerned about “climate breakdown” due to our use of mislabeled “fossil fuels”. Why? The plants exist and thrive because of CO2, and with that comes oxygen which we humans need. Also a warmer planet overall is less resource intensive and leads to fewer human deaths than a colder one. To expect the planet to stay just perfect for us is the height of hubris. We should play to our strengths which is our ability to adapt.

Oh I disagree so strongly with video bloke 1:26 to 1:52 where he says the main instruments only measure things about Earth using radiation sensing to look at it. The GRACE gravity satellites are 200 km (125 miles) apart and can measure the change in that 125 miles to within far less than the thickness of a human hair. They literally weigh the surface that they are passing over by its gravity. They weigh the change in weight of the ocean in 300 x 300 km squares to measure how much water was added or removed, they weigh the change in weight of ice sheets & mountain glaciers, they weigh the change in weight of aquifers holding water under the ground. It’s based on the obvious fact that a change in weight is going to be the amount of water or ice changing because soil & rock don’t flow so fast as ice & water do they ? So the soil & rock weight isn’t hardly going to change over a decade but the water or ice might.

Anthropogenic climate change is a big lie. CO2 is an extremely weak greenhouse gas, as is methane. The most powerful and plentiful greenhouse gas is water vapor. What changes climate? Sun spot activity, which currently is very low. This is why the earth has been getting cooler, not hotter. The first half of the 20th century, when CO2 levels were much lower, was much hotter than it is today. Michael Mann’s hockey stick graph is fraudulent and based on falsified data. It is impossible for humans to influence the climate.

    A. According to tide gauge data, sea levels are rising about 2.8mm/year, or about 1 inch per decade, and have been at that rate consistently since at least as far back as tide gauge data is available (1860, Manhattan, NY). There is no signal that the RATE of sea level rise is changing (either going faster or slower). Therefore, increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are not having any effect on sea levels. This is what the data tell us.

At the same time, human CO2 is 0.0016% of atmospheric gas. So, does a miniscule amount of human CO2 lead to massive changes in the climate?

    • Wobbly

We can’t stop climate change and government will ruin the country pretending it is doing something. When we talk about stopping climate change we are talking about artificially changing climate. Changing climate is natural as it is a system so complicated and huge that we can’t do anything. What we have is a man made planet wide emergency.

Ive actually been raising my own bugs and catching rain water to live off of. I live in a bicycle drawn camper thats fully sustainable. After we cured covid i was able to concentrate all of my fear on our climate emergency. I’m working on a human waste compost system that uses excrement and urine to make bricks for sustainable housing even pottery and cookware. When i read how much i was contributing to our extinction i was suicidal. How will we integrate 3rd world countries? I feel like there should be forced sterilization to stop growth of this cancer on our gaya

Greta Thunberg Leo di Caprio Al Gore Joe Biden and the British Royal family are doing more to “save the planet” than the rest of the world put together. They are explaining the science. The Bible is thousands of years old and talks about the deserts in the Middle East it talks about droughts and famine.
But thanks to Greta and King Charles we now know the Bible was talking about NOW and climate change. We know that droughts are new, floods are new, earthquakes are new, hurricanes in Florida are all new, shrinking rainforest is new. It’s all due to CO2 emissions of normal working class people. Before 2020 there has never been an illness that could wipe out millions of people. Before 2020 all vaccines were wrong, we now know you are supposed to take vaccines every year. Before 2020 volcanoes earthquakes hurricanes blizzards melting ice floating icebergs that could sink a ship never happened. We all need to get vaccinated against climate change now.
CO2 is required by plants and trees. We need to stop CO2 we need stop plants NOW.
THE UNITED NATIONS says so. They have all worked together and now we need to do our bit and send world leaders on private planes to all the capital cities to stay at all the luxury hotels to tell us what need to do.
There are problems with food supplies and prices are going up. But this is because the war in the Ukraine, so if Ukraine has a democracy there will be universal peace in the Middle East and every commodity will be 100 per cent cheaper so world hunger will cease and energy will be free. Facts

And since that wasn’t long enough for you to throw away your industrialized civilization, this douche says “BY 2300”. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I wish someone has asked him to explain EXACTLY WHEN AND WHY PHOTOSYNTHESIS STOPPED WORKING……If you’re gullible enough to fall for this bullshyt just take a look at the last ten years of BEACHFRONT DEVELOPMENTS AROUND THE WORLD, especially in places that should’ve been SUBMERGED a long time ago, according to frauds like this guys- like the Maldives, Tahiti, New Orleans and South Florida.

The planet has been warming since the “Little Ice Age” of the 1500’s. What are the contributing factors to that? CO2 emissions haven’t been an issue until the past 100 years, so there has to be more culprits.

    • YraxZovaldo

Great vid for sure. It seems that people advocating on behalf of our planet don’t recognize that our leaders are where they are quite specifically to further an economy that is institutionally and culturally built to focus on money – private profit. To expect Biden to end the fossil fuel economy is like expecting an otter to fly. We must evolve a democracy. Only the “little people” care enough and can save the planet.

  408. Shawn

Florida has been sinking since the ice sheet melted in Canada and made it livable. The continental plate had been pushed down in the northern part of the north American continental plate bringing Florida out of the ocean. It is now returning. Some of the best fishing is 100 miles west of Florida in a drowned forest that was dry land 10, 000 years ago.

Apple has let loose a few new iPads that can run quicker with better screens but their prices are what really stands out. An iPad Pro plus accessories can cost you as much as a MacBook pro. It’s likely Apple understands that it’s at the point where its more powerful tablets are challenging its basic tier laptops in price terms – so the company has to make sure that the iPads it is selling do a lot. And they do. But we’re still wondering, are they really worth as much as a laptop?
