I feel bad for Kia— you can tell she’s been asked the “Kataang vs Zutara” stuff more often than she wants to deal with. 😞 I’m sure she’s gotten plenty of media training regarding how to approach the shipping questions, but seriously… she should start charging a nickel every time she’s asked about shipping stuff; she can pay off their SAG membership for the rest of her life.
Point being—the ATLA fandom has been vocal about Kataang vs Zutara since *before* some of these actors have been on this earth… and whatever they say (or even quietly imply) is going to rile up the fandom. Sure, it’s great for publicity, but they’re just teen/young-adult actors trying to promote the show they’re in, and should not be placed in a position to say where they stand in this divisive debate. Both Kataang and Zutara are valid at this point— they each have a strong fanbase, regardless of canon— so let’s just set that aside and let Kia, Dallas and Gordon talk about other things they love about the show.

I had a bit of mixed feelings about the show (overall positive), but I love that they’re so obviously into it and care about the Fandom. Also, spoilers! I’m just about to read the comic about Zuko’s mom, so I didn’t appreciate that! Lol It’s called The Search and a couple of the original writers for the show were involved in its writing.

I really like english, linguistics and pronunciations, so im taking a little stab at the pronunciation of sokka. Keep in mind, im not an expert, im just really passionate…
Sokka would be pronounced with a soft vowel sound bc of the double consonant. It would be a harder vowel sound if spelt soka.
I will always say that the pronunciation of peoples names rest with the people who named them and the people who are named that way. You can spell your name in a way which doesnt match the pronunciation, and i will not disagree with you, but, if i havent heard you or your folks say your name, i will argue with others about the pronunciation if it is linguistically incorrect in english (if you are born with english as a first language)

I really feel like the show purposefully avoided Kataang in the first season, and now Kiawentiio mentiones Katara’s and Aang’s relationship is more like siblings. After being asked about Zutara, they completely avoided the question, as if they were trying not to spoil something.
