Not just the physical pollution. Advertising is pollution of the brain! Every “I’m lovin’ it” or “Just do it.” or “America Runs on Dunkin” is one less memory you have of your childhood or a lost relative.

I have heard this same argument for decades and the powers that be don’t seem to be trailblazing anything, so sorry if I just yawn at more bullshit activists who think Capitalism is the cause of climate change (it’s not) and focus on the big polluters. (China & India) that pollute the oceans. Also, climate change has become the code word for “wealth distribution” and it’s evident by this talk and others like it. Wake up and smell the fear.

I work in marketing & PR, I try my hardest to ensure my strategies take into account environmental impact. It’s not the industry itself, but corruption will bleed into any sector it deems useful. Shell Oil once tried to buy me out – no chance – I don’t care how much you offer me. I don’t want any part in the death of this beautiful planet

To further push the point, when scientists first started warning the public about this, they used the phrase “global warming” much more often than “climate change”. While both terms have been used interchangeably for decades, the industry pushed hard for the term “climate change” to be used in everyday speech because it has a less serious tone (less scary sounding) than “global warming”. There are likely countless examples like this of how the industry has ran campaigns to influence people in even the most subtle ways.
At the end of the way, people really need to learn to stop trusting and listening to major corporations. Scientists and others have been ringing the alarm bells for decades but their voices have been drowned out by the mainstream media and major advertising firms. While it’s a noble cause to try to use these industries to combat climate change rather than support it, the fact that none of the biggest advertising firms have joined in on the promise of increased transparency says all we need to know. Any promise made by one of these firms is likely to be superficial at best with no meaningful impact or substance.
Also, it should go without saying that the lack of ethics in these industries goes well beyond climate change or the environment in general. The influence these industries have impacts every little pocket of our lives and society.

I love how people always want to moral-shame the sociopaths into being more “humanitarian”.
You need to change the incentive structure to get any ‘company’ to change.
No company board is going to wake up as a group and say,
“LET US THROW PROFITS IN THE TRASH AND START WASTING OUR CAPITAL ON FIXING A PROBLEM THAT ALL GOVERNMENTS CREATED.”
Real problem. Laughable proposal at the solution.

Excellent presentation; if I could talk about the elephant in the room, a particular network works overtime telling their viewers that climate change is inaccurate. We also had a former President that pushed and mocked climate change. Accountability will come soon rather than later, or it may be too late. I think it will come down to the people, not the politicians.
