You did not mention on the ultra the band is very different and is secure where it’s not going to fall off in the water and in other situations there are three different types depending on what your activity is and there is the ability in the middle of nowhere to make a satellite call for help if you get out somewhere and you need help you can do a satellite call on the ultra you you didn’t mention that at all and that is another big difference

I’m planning to buy my first Apple Watch this year and I’m Thinking about buying the series 8 or the series 7.
Should I go for the series 8 and future proof or go for the series 7 and save some bucks?
I have no need for the ultra and I must have an always on display so no SE either.

I’d go for the 8. I know by experience what it feels like to have an old apple watch that can not keep up with the software. It’s not great, so I’d go for the watch with the new chip.

@Adam The ‘new’ S8 chips is the same as the S7 and S6 chips used in series 6 an 7 respectively. I would go for the S7 for a cheaper price.

They show the guy diving with the always on display on. This must be new. Always on display in series 7 doesn’t work this way or if you have tattoos in the wrist. If they fixed this issue I’ll be upgrading for sure.

Most diving is done no deeper than 100ft. Say 60-80ft so will be a perfect dive watch if max is 120ft. I’m also sure it will go deeper than that too

Why would anyone want to buy an ugly apple square face watch with only 18 hours battery life? This is so stupid. Garmin, Samsung watch 5 pro and Fitbit all have great batteries and same features as this. It’s crazy what apple is able to get away with. Too many die hard sheep that only know what Apple tells them. This line up is terrible. Shame on apple for not doing better with their watches. Watch Ultra is a 49mm disaster that really nobody should buy until they make it a round face and put a bigger battery inside

I was hoping to swap my Garmin Fenix for an Apple Watch that had the same advantages (e.g. multi GPS, plenty of tri functions) and I could discreetly wear to work. Unfortunately, the Ultra is too clunky for me. In addition, the single colour makes it stand out too much, the cellular connectivity is unnecessary and the UK pricing isn’t competitive enough. I guess I’ll stick with my Garmin for sports and my regular watch for day-to-day, for now at least.

Has anyone noticed the black bezel area around the screen on the Ultra looks larger than the smaller bezels of the S8. I would have expected the Ultra to have much smaller bezels due to its flat screen.

I don’t scuba dive, climb mountains or do ultra marathons. Still considering the Ultra though… Battery life is much better and I don’t want to worry about scratching it, and if you want the watch 8 with cellular the price isn’t much different.

I ordered 3 minutes after sales went live on Verizon and my ship date was November 30th for the trail loop. My current Apple Watch requires me to charge the battery mid day (I charged mine 12 hours ago and it’s at 27% now), I went back on the Verizon site last night (9/10) and they actually had Watches available on the release still in the yellow ocean band. I do SCUBA dive on occasion so I went with that one and was able to buy the trail band I wanted from Verizon and it will ship before the watch actually does.
