@RedPanda US’s recent abortion ban shows very well just how important keeping your health data private is. Even if you’re not a woman, imagine in the future being denied health insurance when your connected smartwatch reveals to the insurance company that your cardio fitness is low and that you’re more at risk for heart disease. That’s why good privacy policies and strong end-to-end encryption is so important. Thankfully Apple has already been using it for some while now.

@Mateja Marić Yeah fair point! I think Apple’s disclaimers relating to their health apps/trackers say data is indicative only and not to be taken as medical advice etc, which hopefully means it also cannot qualify as evidence to be used against you by health insurance companies for the purpose of denying policy coverage.

Body temp rise, then doesn’t drop. Indicating pregnancy. If body temp drops to normal in a few weeks/months, could indicate women got an abortion. In states/countries that bans abortion, this data could be used against the women.

Apple encrypts all Health data end-to-end, meaning that, even if they wanted to, they physically cannot access or give out your data. They were very keen to point that out during their introduction of the new Watches. It’s been like that for years.
