Apple has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. The earliest computer I recall at home was an Apple II, but one of my fondest memories came years later when the original iPhone was released. I drove nearly two hours to the nearest Apple Store just for a chance to see it in person.

While standing there, I met a young man and we both found ourselves captivated by this sleek block of glass and metal with no physical keyboard. At one point, I suggested he call someone and tell them he was calling from the future. We were not even sure a demo unit could make calls, but it did. On the other end, his friend had no idea what was happening, but the two of us stood there grinning, completely amazed at what we were experiencing.

Well being in the UK I didn’t even see an Apple computer until way later in the iphone era. They were just never for sale in my town. No one I knew owned anything Apple. I only followed Apple at all because of Steve Jobs keynotes which were weirdly very important to me despite not ever buying anything Apple. Still not an Apple user but I sure have to maintain my families Apple gear so have become familiar with iphone, watch, tablet etc. Sorry I can’t join in on the Apple nostalgia.

I worked at the South Pole and lived in the Dome 2000/2001. Gave my girlfriend at the time a Duo 2400C so when the satellite came up, we could use iChat (pre-Messages). Suggested we marry over one chat; she said she’d check her schedule.

We just celebrated or 23rd wedding anniversary.

Out of college in the late 70s My first job was with an Electronics Retail chain called Team Electronics (based out of MN and known for Stereo Equipment) They became the first Apple reseller chain in 1977 to sell the Apple II’s. And has a further note in Apple History about a cx who purchased a unit with serial number 5. Now this was before Apple released the external disk drive the following summer so we only had a portable cassette player to load the programs into the memory. The Program that stands out the most was called Lemonade Stand and if you didn’t get the volume or tone control set right, the program won’t load and error out…..Steve probably would of said we weren’t loading it right. 🙂 ….good times.

7:07 – I had an iPhone 6 and i knew about 4 or 5 other people who did, and none of them bent their phones. Mainly because we’re not the sort of idiots who put a phone in their back pocket and sit on it, bend over, etc. Less ‘Bendgate’, more ‘Morongate’.

I made a living for decades thanks to the IBM mainframe VM OS and then Microsoft Windows. For years I looked down on Apple products, then my employer provided me with an iPhone. I was hooked. When I retired I bought a MacBook Air so I could learn Mac OS.

1st Apple Product ever was an iPad 3 my mom bought for the family after getting an iPhone 4s at the same time. My 1st ever iPhone though was the Space Grey SE 1 and ever since then, I’ve been a proud iPhone user (currently using the Black Titanium 16 Pro as my daily driver) 🤠🤠🤠🤠

  27. @thecapone45

My story with Apple was that I actually very much disliked Apple at times 15 years ago. I thought Apple folks were pretentious and it was expensive stuff that wasn’t as good as Windows. My first Apple device was an iPod touch and that I did like, but I still thought Apple was something that was eye roll inducing. Eventually over time, I started to like the philosophy of the products, but I didn’t buy my first Mac until 2025 (I’m cheap!)

Now, that is to say, I haven’t been as restrained with buying the stock. Purchased shares a number of years ago and it has been one of the best purchases I ever made.

0:45 We had 2 colourful iMacs at home! A graphite and an indigo. They were supremely incredible. Even for movies, so many DVDs borrowed from blockbuster.

  29. @cometcaper

    April 4, 2026 at 12:10 am

My first apple device was an iPod nano. Maybe, I got it as a gift from sis and bro in law around 2010. I was studying in India and they worked in the US. I lost it in the library. They gifted me another one – this time a shuffle.

Then I bought an iPad – within weeks of being in the US in 2012. Then one and yr into my PhD, my first Mac.

Then, I bought my first iPhone in Dec 2014 but someone stole it when I was solo tripping in the UK. Someone stole it near the British library. I was on my way to the Jack the Ripper tour. But instead of being there after an hr, I was at the police station to report the theft. I had never been at a police station in India (my birth) or the US (adopted) country. I eventually went for a Samsung Galaxy edge (they were sexy) after that. But, eventually started using apple after a while d

Then, I got new MacBook (i7 13 inch – I did not know it would overheat and they would stop making more).

And finally, a new iPad a few months after and an Apple Watch during the pandemic. I have kept changing my iPhone every 2.5-3 yrs in the last 10 yrs.

First Apple Computer Used at School = Apple IIe
    First iPod = iPod mini
First Mac Purchase = iBook G4
First iPhone Purchase = iPhone 4
First Mac Used at Work = Mac Pro

30+ Years of Apple history on this end.

  31. @rivereee

    April 4, 2026 at 3:14 am

In 2006, an Apple engineer I won’t name shipped me my first Apple product, and iMac G5. Infinite Loop was destroying all of the PowerPC computers in their offices as they made the switch to Intel. Mine was rescued from the dumpster, has no serial number, and is upgraded with parts that weren’t available to the public. Apple’s trash was my treasure: I went from a beige Windows ME box (you heard right, ME) to the coolest computer I’d ever used, with an OS that finally got me interested in technology.

I’ve only used apple devices twice. iPod classic, itunes was garbage and impossible to organize a huge music library. Had to use an ipad for work, the OS layout was very inefficient and frustrating. Safe to say, my experience hasn’t been positive.

The lady with the Aux cable issue. Buy a FM transmitter. You hook up your iPod to the transmitter then setup the car radio the frequency set on the FM transmitter. It basically becomes a personal radio station. The only problem is that audio quality isn’t very good. Depending how good the signal is from the transmitter, it can be “fine” to absolutely terrible.
