What a load of romanticised fantasy based on not one morsel, not even a speck or a micro particle of scientific evidence. More propoganda and lies to further the green agenda. Sure particulates from pre catalytic converter or diesel particulate filters and exhaust gas recirculation modules internal combustion engines and dirty old coal and gas power stations was and is problematic health wise but to say that CO2 is responsible for global warming is like saying ice cream ruins a Sundae. CO2 is no more a greenhouse gas than oxygen, you wouldn’t take all the oxygen out of the atmosphere would you? How do you think the plants feel about removing all the CO2 from the atmosphere? Plants need CO2 like we need oxygen. All this alarmist BS about humanity destroying the Earth only makes the lies more transparent. You are full of it, now just stop it, stop it with all the lies and ill informed nonsense, please.

The solution is obvious, everyone gets a CO2 ration and you cannot buy more.
Try to get the leaders of the climate movement to sell their yachts, jets and cars, dirt cheap as well.

The issue is quite straightforward: All climate conference goals set since the 1980s have not been met. All this blah blah blah about numbers and percentages doesn’t convince me. International relations (and other issues) are much worse today than they were in the 1980s. Without international cooperation, it will be very difficult to meet the goals of climate agreements. I don’t like being a pessimistic voice, but to convince me that there is hope, it will take a deeper analysis of the reality we are living in today. This TED talk sounds to me like cheap propaganda.

@@BGWee optimism generates delay. “We must take action within 30 years” translates to “no need to take action for 30 years”. The activist industry must always insist that there’s time available, and insisting that there’s time available has played into the FF industry’s hands for the last 60 years.
There is no more time available. If we let the permafrost thaw then everywhere that has a continental climate will be deadly to mammals (that includes us BTW). Civilisation will not survive a 12-15 degree jump in the space of 1-5 summers.

@@gasdive I don’t know, seeing how minor measures to reduce emissions in Europe have been politicized so much makes me think apocalyptic warnings just makes it more politicized and partisan. Action on climate change shouldn’t be political at all given its urgency and how it affects us all.

@@BGWee the only thing that matters is getting CO2 back under 300 as fast as possible. 60 years of optimism has got us where we are now. Maybe we could try telling people the truth? That this is not a fight to save luxury waterfront property, nor is it a fight to save investment firms from having to rebuild wharves 1 metre higher in 80 years, it’s a fight for survival. That we don’t have 30 years before action is needed. That it may already be too late to save ourselves, but to have a chance we need to actually do something, not make up acronyms, make pledges, or sign and ignore agreements.

Spin. Let’s be honest. Fake meat and electric cars don’t work as well as you think. Electric cars are too heavy, use electricity from fossil fuel power plants. And the batteries don’t work in cold weather. Oh yeah, and we should have started 40 years ago. The positive feedback loops are going to doom us. Listen to Carl Sagan from 50 years ago and you should be very scared. Oh, yeah we were over 1.5 degrees C last year

There’s no design for a mass produced breeder reactor. To design one would take a decade, testing another decade building the factories that make them, another decade actually building the reactors several more decades. 40 to 50 years from now it’s too late.
If we go with existing breeder designs, we can’t build enough because they’re designed to be hand made in small quantities like Formula One cars. There’s no way to build tens of thousands.
If we go with existing non breeder designs there’s not enough uranium to even fuel them all once. We couldn’t even start them all.

Grateful that organizations like TED are looking into the issue of climate change and helping to highlight potential solutions and emphasizing the roadblocks. It’s concerning for sure, but seeing that people are leading the charge gives me hope for change.

I saw on the news the other day that CO2 emissions in 2023 will reach a record high, but is that a lie?
In fact, temperatures are rising rapidly, and there is a recognition that last summer, agricultural crops were pushed to the brink in large areas of the world.
I also heard that Spain continues to be in dire straits due to water shortages.
In particular, doubts remain about China’s mass production of EVs by emitting large amounts of CO2 from coal-fired power plants.
This is because CO2 is a stable gas and will maintain its structure even after 1,000 years, so we should have reduced CO2 emissions even if we had to reduce EVs.
Furthermore, if it is true that the power storage capacity will decline considerably in 6 to 8 years, I am against relying on EVs at this stage.
Solar panels are expected to last more than 20 years, so drastic policies are needed to make maximum use of sunlight and temporarily stop factory production at night.
If individuals do not take steps to conserve energy in the meantime, they will easily exceed the tipping point.

How are people so delusional. If you are about to walk off the edge of a cliff at 3.9 km/h, it’s not an improvement to only walk off the edge at 2.7 km/h
There’s 1700 billion tonnes of carbon in the permafrost. *THAT* is the most under told story. If it comes out as CO2 it’s equivalent to 170 years of current emissions. If it comes out as methane that’s equal to 17,000 years of current emissions. We’ve already had a year above 1.5 above 1850-1900 (more than 2 degrees above pre-industrial). The permafrost is *ALREADY* thawing. The chances are that most of it will come out as methane, and the enormous amounts will completely overwhelm the atmospheric hydroxyl radical that degrades methane into CO2. Methane is 100 times worse greenhouse gas than CO2. It’s only called 20 or 80 times because the hydroxyl radicals degrade the methane into CO2. When billions of tonnes of methane hit the atmosphere it will just use up all the hydroxyl radical.
Net Zero is nowhere near enough. Net Zero by 2030 is not enough, far too late. Net Zero by 2050 is assured because civilisation will not survive the 12-15 C temperature increase that will come from letting the permafrost thaw.

Don’t touch my meat. It’s frustrating to have to handle meat when there are industrial gases and so many other air pollutions. I don’t want to eat anything artificial. Eating meat is our body’s need.

Grateful knowledge from Ted video. It is the time which we need to consider our nature and future environment. Long time ago, the nature was devastating by fuel and gas and it attack the biology cycle, as soon as possible this problem are coming in our society. One of the key to resolve the problem is less eat meat, and I agree with this statement. I know growing cows and pigs are acquire huge source such as water and stockpile based on that we don’t need to be a vegetarian, we just need to reduce some of the meat in our table. This solution could help us to enhance our environment.
