As a former actor, I’ve never had an issue crying on cue and have always found it weird that many successful actors struggle with it.

It always takes me out of the scene when the actor is sobbing and has completely dry eyes.

@rcredmon It’s a real issue for a lot of great actors. It’s a mental block or something else. I still find it weird that these actors can’t tap into making themselves cry.

Well, interestingly I read an article once about how there seems to be a connection to testosterone levels and crying. So, it’s physically more difficult for individuals with high levels of testosterone to cry.

This is also why you hear some trans men talk about the problem of not being able to cry or cry very much any more, because they take testosterone.

And I’d argue the crying on cue isn’t the hard part, but crying in a way that’s convincing, but also not annoying to the viewer, is. Hence why he’s talking about holding back tears.

The most convincing full-blown bawling scene I can think of is Gladiator, though. Snot and all.

Well good for you, but you weren’t successful

@uioplkhj I was literally cast in projects, the definition of success in acting. Is your life so bad that you gotta come on here to try to make others feel worse bud?
