RIP off, $3500 for a 4090 gpu that has been proven to be lacking and considerably so, against its desktop brother….these types of gaming laptops…i dont know who they are for, why buy a laptop gpu, that is very expensive, but quite far behind in terms of specs of its desktop equal…its pointless. Get a steam deck, i use xcloud streaming my game pass, you got everything you need and save 3k cash.

      April 4, 2023 at 8:22 am

Because not everyone stays at home … people travel and are willing to make the compromise … or maybe they can afford both …

Or maybe they use it for work that requires a higher performance machine

    • mabizu

      April 4, 2023 at 8:56 am

I hate game streaming, feels very unresponsive. It may be fine for an RPG or so, but not from Doom, Competitive Gaming etc. Additionally, I find that a ATX or Large ITX tower Fall out of fashion. There is nothing sleek anymore with this monster 4090 RTX cards. Honestly I would love my MacBook Pro to be able to play more games, since Steam Deck is nice, but no Age of Empires or Blizzard Games, looking at you Diablo 4. So for me Gaming Laptop is the only option to have something which looks sleek, can be moved away while not in use and I can bring whereever on my business trips.

      April 4, 2023 at 3:04 pm

      The 4090 is a 3080… Rip off on a full scale….

    • mabizu

      April 4, 2023 at 3:46 pm

@Tom N this was always the case, before they just had an M to make it more clear. Rip Off, hmm, it is the best card you can get on a laptop in the moment, so it make sense to name it so people don’t search for a higher tier. Same they do with cars, let’s say Mercedes, there top line always is called AMG, or BMW with the M. Even if the different models are completely something different.

Yeah the prcing this year is insane. 4000 dollars for some laptops. Which is just insane. I would never pay more than 3000 dollars for a gaming laptop.

Wish the Razor Blade 18 would hit a bit a lower price point. 1500.- difference at the moment for very similar specs.

I would just get the msi gt 77 titan with the 4k 144 hz mini led display with hdr 1000 with 1,000 nits since I need 1,000 nits since I crank the brightness at 100% 24/7 with static images with no risk of burn ins. There are not much gaming monitors that have hdr 1000 with 1, 000 nits with 4k mini led display, the gaming monitor I would get would be the samsung odyssey g8 neo 32 inch curve 4k 240 hz mini led display, i love 4k curve displays, once I gotten into 4k curve displays ever since 2014, I can’t go back to a flat display, the only exception would be a flat display like a phone or laptop, however the display has to be 4k since I’m already used to 4k, even my primary phone the sony xperia 1 iv has a 4k 120 hz oled display with 21:9 aspect ratio with 10 bit bt.2020 with 1,000 nits. I have the 2022 razer blade 15 with 4k 144 hz display but the screen is not that bright and it’s brightness is comparable to my samsung chromebook with the 4k super amoled display since they are not that bright since there brightness are meh mediocre. I just wish my sony phone has a hifi dac like the lg v series of phones but at least it has a headphone jack and a micro sd card slot.

MSI nice screen, but design… (no thanks), if compare with Alienware and Razer Blade better chose design for this money, then just mini led and 1000nits

Not sure why nobody is covering the 300nit screen brightness. That’s an instant fail when you have a screen that big rocking a 4090. Not to mention if you’re buying it for that 4090 and redic graphics, and NOT for the 480Hz, 300nits (tested at 280) you’re missing out.

Nice high level review to keep me up on the trends. Not a deep dive into the weeds, but enough so I can know what’s going on in Windows land while I’m over here on my MacBook.
