Nothing about a electric care is green. The necessary rare earth minerals it’s takes to even operate these cars are mined in toxic environments and cause major pollution and are also mined by children in countries throughout the world. Please read up on these vehicles it also takes coal burning plants in many parts of the world to make electricity. People need to get smart.

@Austin Moon I’ve been renting an EV the past couple of weeks and I don’t have access to a personal charger. It actually hasn’t been a huge problem. Many malls and shopping centers have EV chargers that give me a top up for about $10/100 miles. But I’m also lucky that I live in California where EV charging access is widespread, and I also have a charger at work. Paying $5 in electricity for 100 miles at work instead of $20 at the pump is seriously making me reconsider my gas car.

EVs still use plastic components we have a long way until we completely ditch oil for good. Maybe in the year 2122 oil will be gone but until then let the oil conglermates keep drilling like there’s no tomorrow!!!! We’re f*cked!!!!!

Although the majority of plastics produced today are derived from petroleum, it is far from the truth that plastic can only be manufactured from petroleum and petroleum alone. In fact plastics and various polymers can be manufactured from a multitude of organic materials. However, it is far less costly to manufacture these plastics from petroleum in the current market, but as prices for petroleum rise along with the waning availability of petroleum alternatively produced plastics will become more prevalent. Also, as the future unravels I’m sure additional materials will be developed that will replace plastics little by little, but yes plastics in some shape or form are here to stay for quite some time.

The biggest issue with EV cars is the battery. It’s the most expensive component to manufacture AND it’s the one that wears the fastest. While EVs themselves don’t generare harmful emissions, the power which charges your battery most likely comes from powerplants that do generate emissions. Also, as far as I’m aware, you cannot really recycle the battery when it comes time to change it. All in all, while I absolutely love EVs, they have a long way to go before they can truly be considered green.

The point is not to make a car with no problems, just less problems than oil. A big power plant is more efficient than a million small ones. That’s why we don’t all have a generator in our home.
Don’t worry about infrastructure, the market answers the need just like how oil companies created massive oil infrastructure everywhere to supply oil to cars the past century.

@Michael The idea was that once EVs grow in popularity, the infrastructure will have to adapt. What that ultimately means is more power from the power plants. Things will need to change rapidly and drastically to support this. The environmental impact these changes will produce needs to be taken into account. I’m all in for a green future but EVs right now are creating massive challenges, probably more challenges than they are solving.

@Andrei Companies can’t even deliver ev without massive delays due to limited production, the worry of ev not able to handle the grid is non issue. It would take lot of time for ev to be mainstream and by then we would have already slowly upgraded the grid.

First there is a 11 year old mining cobalt to make your battery. Then it cost $1.50 a hour to charge for a 150 mile range. At this rate it will take a month to drive across the US.

This is why fuel cells make more sense to me for long range trips.. battery EVs make more sense for city commuters who don’t need as much range. Neither is a perfect solution

Besides safety people still have ICE aesthetics. Evs should look like teardrops but that looks ugly to us. Back in the day cars were made to look like horse drown carriages for the same reason.

I like weird and futuristic looks and also retro. I used to hate BMW i3, I bought one now I love the looks, I also have a Fiat 500e which I like a lot. Most of the cars that people think look really good are boring to me.

How much loss do you get transferring from AC to DC back to AC? Seems kinda like a waste. Can you get the same performance from a DC motor? Or have the ability to store AC power?

All batteries are DC, there are some losses from an inverter, overall much more efficient than gas still. AC motors give more appropriate performance for a car.

@R P I want them to improve salt nuclear reactors small enough for a home or vehicle. Nice thing about salt nuclear reactors is that they don’t melt down. Safer for a vehicle involved in a crash, yet nearly unlimited range.

There are a lot of reasons why ev’s will never work in YouTube comments. I’ve had 2 used 2015 EVs for 3 1/2 years. Much less maintenance, save a lot of money on gas, fun to drive & I’m not embarrassed to say it’s better for the air, more gas for everyone else.

As modern as they are I prefer normal cars any day. The feeling of driving a manual transmission and to be able to hear the engine when you rev is irreplaceable to me.
