This is so cool! I teach crucial conversations content and this would be very helpful for many who do not know or “hear” how they come off to others!!!

I’m not sure what kind of idiot you’d have to be to give Amazon a permanent microphone into your life. I’ll pass.

      December 2, 2020 at 7:29 pm

The mic feature can be turned off. The Halo’s mic is not on by default.

Behavior monitoring and control. This is absolutely Orwellian! I think it is worse than the controversies regarding location tracking. 😳

Just another way for us to give Amazon the freedom to spy on our lives.

Now, Amazon is capturing your voice and speech with new recognition software.
Another way to track and identify you.
    No thanks.

When we need an electronic device to tell people what their tone is, you know we are getting really stupid in general

Can I do this with just my phone? I definitely want to watch my tone when I’m giving tech support to a family member. I don’t care if they’re right or wrong or listening or not, I want to do everything in my power to resolve their problem with minimal friction and headache. I can get mad at them later (or never).

  16. MacS7n

    December 2, 2020 at 6:55 pm

So we now have to pay Amazon to collect our emotions data? Lol

  17. Fluorine, Uranium, Carbon, Potassium

Wow… I didn’t think we were far enough along to allow companies to collect our emotional data now.

Awesome. A computer to tell me I’m not happy-sounding enough.

Maybe people should just try to be a bit less judgemental. For example, to me, a lot of Londoners have a flat, emotionless tone which makes them sound a little haughty.
That’s *my* problem, not theirs. I can’t expect all Londoners to conform to what I think. I need to adjust my standards, not the other way around.

Who would need this? Wow, there are all kinds of stupid… Why would u pay $4 a month to be spied on, WOW! Hold on… there is a tv show right now about it… “Brave New World” it feels just like that… Amazon trying to domesticate humans Jeff Bezos style. Next they will pop you a pill! LOL – no thanks! This is crazy…

It’s not what you say, its how you say it. It’s a shame that with that feature enabled the battery goes down to one day. The Apple Watch has more features and a oled screen and it has a day of battery life. This product should have a longer battery life.

This is going to have huge implications on the customer support industry. Both to monitor customer satisfaction and employee interaction. However using it in my own personal life sounds absolutely ridiculous! 😡

Talk about privacy invasion. You are just straping an always on microphone to your wrist that streams everything you say to amazon. Great idea.

If “Live Mode” listens for all nearby voices, what are the legal implications of this? For example, if I use “Live Mode” around other people, and don’t tell them, would I be held legally liable if the subsequently find out and decide to press charges?

This is fascinating. Privacy concerns aside, this is really interesting for people in public-facing roles, like your teaching example, or public speaking, customer service, news/radio, etc.—even acting. It could be used for good, but I wonder what implicit biases the “tonal” evaluation has baked into it. Also, I wonder if they will eventually sell this to call centers, etc. That could get really oppressive really fast…

You really don’t need to worry about your tone. If it weren’t for your tone people couldn’t understand what you’re really trying to tell them. If we were to speak in a monotone, no one could tell whether we were being honest or we were being sarcastic or we were just being silly. I happened to try to use sarcasm very effectively when I’m angry because it’s either that or start talking like a sailor and now many people like the way sailors talk these days. Or, maybe they do. By the way, I am from one county over, Nassau County and I currently live on the county on the other side of you, Brooklyn. Good to see local boy do good

Buying a device with subscription attached is a big NO for me, and this voice analysis could be done by some app on a phone – no need for extra hardware. But thumbs up for the video.
