Not all, but a lot of grocery stores will tamper/make inedible their unsold food to prevent people from recovering the food in the dumpsters for free. It’s as if they believe that ruining that free food will force those “dumpster divers” to purchase food in the store. Capitalist rot.

Where I work there’s tons of food that HAVE to be thrown out. Gotta throw it out to meet the shrink or claim quota. Whatever reason that is 🙄 so dumb. Even if something is just fine. Just open or missing one from a 12 pack we still can’t take it home. Very rarely store use it for associates. That’s it

This is the best solution for food wase issue that we’ve been figuring out; It is both ethical and beneficial for the company . Similarly, Should the solution be correlated with plastic issue, it may yield further insights; It will not only presents a sound resolution to the pollution caused by plastic, but also opens business opportunity for the company.

In your opinion, how might this be correlated with the plastics issue?

Amazing if it is really as good as it sounds.Although im really skeptical about the consistency of inflow and outflow of food for this to work, this is indeed a great intent

Western countries grow and throw a lot of good unused foods based on looks, over supply, etc. Instead of feeding it to its own citizens or sending it to countries with limited food scarcity, it’s rather toss onto landfills rotten away. 😢😢😢😢😢Complete waste of resources from rich countries. 😢 No wonder poorer countries aren’t like us, imagine the wastefulness it would take 5 earth size planets to sustain the amount of input and output. Jesus christ priorities, gluttony and greed.

This I believe was meant for me to view. The information provided as well as the explanation of the mission to recycle wasted food, safety precautions to ensure those can have somewhat of a variety to their liking. I don’t think food is imagined to be wasted but it does happen. To see steps like this specifically be taken is quite remarkable.

I’m so glad Jasmine is working to solve this problem. So many of us have known that the current food supply system is broken and wasteful and can be improved, she found the language of business to make it work and get over the legal hurdles.

I am building an app called pantry pal right now that will help with this. It is designed to easily incorporate your existing pantry through receipt scanning and upc scanning as well as adding produce. The ai will automatically give the produce an expiration date and suggest dinner each night based on what is available and what is expiring soon. Making rhe eternal question of whats for dinner automatic.

Food banks in my area are only allowed to accept sealed/canned items. They cannot accept fresh fruit/veggies/meat due to the possibility of contamination. As if some evil person would inject poison into the fresh items with a syringe.

Food waste is good, actually.
If we solve food waste, we make the global food supply chain extremely sensitive to major disruptions. No food waste > bigger than COVID or Ukraine war disruption > millions or billions starve. A lot of food waste > we have a buffer and no one starves.
