I swore off ever spending over 500 for a phone after breaking 2 of them from an accidental drop and water damage.
Samsung A series is for budget and usually there’s discounts with the phone carriers. I only ended up spending less than 200 for a phone that does everything i want it to, maybe a little slower than the flagships, which is going to be less than the insurance price a year for those 1000+ dollar phones.
@Ray__E
July 11, 2025 at 1:59 pm
I remember when budget phones cost a few hundred dollars, had replaceable batteries, a headphone jack, etc… There’s nothing “budget” about a phone that costs a half a grand or more.😐

Galaxy S23 ultra: launch price 1400 dollars, antutu benchmark score 1.2 million, 4 years os updates upto 2027
2025 Oneplus nord 5: price 350 dollars, antutu score 1.5 million, 4 years os updates upto 2029
So with latest phone, you get new phone, new and bigger battery, better processor, for 1000 dollar less!

I bought a used z flip 4 on amazon for cheap. It looked brand new, and no one would have known that i bought it heavily discounted. I tell people about it because i find it more impressive than just buying the brand new model for full price.
All i did was go on amazon and type the phone you want and theb type on renewed after it.
Even new phones will go on amazon renewed a couple months after release. It kind of varies though.
I kind of ge the reason why people uograde there ohone every year. I just dont find it that impressive because almost everyone uogrades every 2 years.
I got my phone a year ago and its still getting android updates. Its a 3 year old phone. It’s still going to get next years android update, and I’ll be able to use it for quite a while after that. By then, the z flip 7 or 8 used will be cheap.

A budget phone is anywhere from ≤$200 – $350, the same one would pay for pre-owned referbished online for a phone from the previous 2-3 gen, and would last 2-5 years with software updates.
Paying $900+ for a handheld that’s not an iPad or tablet, might as well buy a full featured computer.

Considering budget tech yes but also considering not upgrading. I used to buy Apple upgrades yearly. iPhones, iPads, Watch. The last two upgrades occurred every two years. Now considering not upgrading unless I need to which could be once IOS no longer supports the device. That might mean 4-6 years. If less costly devices come to the market I might reconsider jumping from Apple completely. Apple needs to take a leaf from other companies and provide more cheaper options or more market share will go to other companies.

Budget phone is less than $100. Redmi A5, Redmi, Redmi number C series and same price range are budget. Samsung A1 core, A16 it not because it above 2 million IDR. It need to bellow 2 million IDR or $123.33.
Mid range is 3 – 4 million IDR or at $247
Early entry Android was usually 400,000 IDR or $24.67 when the soc still single core.

July 12, 2025 at 12:52 pm
I feel like the point of releasing “””budget””” options stems from different factors: the realization for many that those new exclusive features are cool on paper but not as useful in real life as expected (like the LiDAR scanner or the integrated S Pen) and the fact that manufacturers created very solid and balanced phones between 2020-2022, that many people still use today (I see SO many people with iPhone 12s and 13s). So manufactures are basically saying: “It’s better to sell a cheaper phone than not selling one at all”.
@H_Gemei
July 12, 2025 at 1:40 pm
The budget phones segment is there to just compel people to pay a couple hundred more and get the premium option. It’s the same popcorn pricing trick done by cinemas.

I recently bought the Apple IPhone 16 Pro Max, my wife who usually upgrades with me did not because it was not available in the color that is available on the IPhone 16. They need to understand that people who buy premium phones also want cool color choices as well.

Given the state of the global economy, you’d have to have more money than sense to spend anywhere close to $2,000 for a phone. Personally, I draw the line at $800, and even that is pretty extravagant.
@JRusk56
July 12, 2025 at 3:33 pm
They are just phones. Why pay that much money for a phone? Its5not going to help you find love or raise a family and all the important parts of life. If you want some entertainment and some productivity, get a midrange tablet and keep it for 5 years or so.

Keep your tech for at least 5 years, repair when needed and finally replace when repair isn’t making sense anymore. Proud to say I’m still using a 9 years old phone, battery changed once and probably need another very soon. Still using a 5 years old laptop and a 9 years old desktop computer. Some may say software updates might not be available but everything I use still works fine, and always practice tech hygiene. Don’t forget, we used to pay for software upgrades and most people back then kept using older software just fine, and dare I say software at similar age of the hardware runs best. Feel free to upgrade when it isn’t costing anything to do so, but the world isn’t ending when manufacturers refuse to allow your old hardware to run their brand new software.

16e is a budget phone in that it uses the same generation of the A chip as Apple most powerful iPhone of the current generation . Future e iPhone will be like this.
This is Budget in a different sense having the best chip but with other features reduced.
Devices with old chips a few or several generations old are not budget. They are false economy in many ways. The OS update would be shorter in number of years making them vulnerable to malware attack. Fast moving development in IT likely wouldn’t be experienced by these with old chips.
Apple should not have any A chip
In any MacBook. Instead the same M generation with pared down number of CPU or GPU cores and DRAM and other features. That way the MacBook wouldn’t be out of date from day one. People would be better off getting an old M chip MacBook.
@bzdtemp

In India, actual budget android phones are really creating tough competition to established players like Samsung and Apple. Why would I buy a “budget” phone for $900. When I can buy a cheaper premium phone from older gen?
