      Well of course it sounds fake. You’re watching a presentation, a talk. Not a real-life scenario… 🙄

Some people aren’t meant to be forgiven. Their betrayals cut too deep to forgive or forget.

    • @Xiph1980

      May 8, 2025 at 3:29 pm

Forgiveness is not necessarily for the other person, but for yourself. Forgiving someone removes the hold they have on your mind, and experiences. You’re the one who benefits most when you forgive someone. And it does not mean you forget what happened, nor necessarily that you can build up a relationship as if everything is good, it just means you’re letting go of the past.

I totally agree with you. Some people deliberately do it.

They should regret every bit of abuse that they’ve done but they aren’t able to do that. Thus there can’t be any repair.

IMO this is untypically good (or at least not bad) advice for parents whose children are estranged, with the caveat that a LOT of self reflection and accountability-taking would have to precede this in order to for the parent to be honest in saying it.

The big problem with estrangement isn’t that the parents aren’t saying the right thing, it’s that they don’t feel/think/do the right thing. These parents typically have immense issues that they are completely unwilling to acknowledge, hence the estrangement, and that’s the real root of the problem that needs to be resolved. (The speaker may have addressed this in the full talk). Unfortunately many don’t get there, but if they do, then saying the right thing will come organically.

You have a great point. People who
-have the desire to do good
      -are open minded
      -looking into self development
-have a bit of confidence they’ll succeed
can basically have benefit of that in all the relationships they are in.

“And if I could go back” is such a cope out. Because you were there at the time… so you showed me exactly what you would do already… at the time. Now it’s just words
