We have created a construct way too expensive with regulations that the only people capable of paying fines gladly, are the corporations happy that medium and small farms will eventually go bankrupt paying the same fines. Why did farming ever needed financing when it was entirely fruits of labor? Corporate lobbyist.

Easy, stop subsidizing obslolete methods, don’t be afraid of dung piles next to the Parliament. A farmer – just like any other entrepreneur – can get financed through common banking practices.

Also, we absolutely clearly know who owns carbon credit. Carbon trading is nothing but stock market, so anyone who buys, has some. And just like company capitalization has only indirect connection with its performance, so are carbon budgets to emissions.

4:49 Very good point, who owns those agricultural emission credits? They basically don’t exist. It’s the major contraction in the Emissions Trading System (ETS): agriculture simply isn’t part of it yet. The best way to help agricultural entrepreneurs to be part of the solution is to allow them to trade their emission credits.

    🌱 Incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking!
Berry Marttin masterfully highlights the paradox of modern agriculture — both a victim and a contributor to climate change. But what truly stood out was his optimistic vision: seeing farmers not just as food producers, but as environmental heroes, if given the right financial tools.

💰 Investing in carbon and biodiversity credits isn’t just a lifeline for the planet — it’s a financial revolution for sustainable farming. This isn’t about the distant future; it’s something we need to start right now.

Thank you TED and Berry Marttin for shedding light on a hopeful path forward — for agriculture, and for our Earth. 🌍

What unfolds inside those stone walls is something the series hasn’t quite seen before: speakers shaped by the weight of living in a region the world tends to define for itself. From a mountaineer who turned grief into motivation to a therapist rewriting the Arab world’s language around mental health, the final city makes the strongest case yet that the best ideas can come from anywhere.

The most interesting ideas often come from the most unexpected places. We searched the globe for ideas with the power to inspire, motivate and change lives — and we found them at @TEDx events around the world. The TED Idea Search follows extraordinary speakers from 9 countries competing for a spot on the TED main stage in Vancouver this April.
