Now, sources say Apple won’t be paying OpenAI as part of the partnership: instead, Apple believes pushing OpenAI’s brand and technology to hundreds of millions of its devices is of equal or greater value than monetary payments. Bloomberg’s Lynn Doan joins Caroline Hyde and Tim Stenovec on “Bloomberg Technology.”

For OAI -the non-profit -this is THE biggest win in the world.
The only possible negative would be runaway usage requiring major short term investment. Then I could see Limits and or tokens purchased to cover costs.

Open AI is not on Apple devices. It’s clearly off device. There is not real integration. It amounts to a plug-in to Apple’s platform user interfaces and applications.

  11. @nextcurve

Also, for all we know, OpenAI and the thousands of other “AI companies” might not be around next year. It makes sense that Apple does not want to take that gamble on any potentially lame horse.

Apple is reportedly not paying OpenAI in cash for this partnership. The thought is they get free distribution across all iPhones (which might be beneficial in the long term). As far as profits are concerned, the only thing that seems to be promising is Apple requiring a iphone 15 and beyond to be able to use ios 18. Which hopefully drives sales 🤞

I want to know how these companies will eventually turn a profit with Nvidia charging $30k PER CHIP to its buyers? Apple is using Apple Silicon to power Apple AI, so I don’t see their hardware cost going up at all. I feel bad for those users that buy devices powered by Blackwell.
