He was fantastic as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad, but his performance as Jimmy McGill slowly transforming into Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul was so amazing that I will watch any movie or show he’s in. Generational performance, it’s the Television Academy’s loss to never honor him with an Emmy.

My Google history: Why is Bob Odenkirk so hot? 😉 Also, re: Vince Gilligan… I figured as much. When I listened to the Better Call Saul “with commentary” eps, I was like, “There’s NO way this man who created/writes/directs/show-runs most of this entire show (and previously did the same for BB) truly doesn’t know the things he’s acting like he doesn’t know.” Bob confirmed my suspicion! Yep, Robert Smigel also confirmed in a book that they basically used Odenkirk’s entire Matt Foley script, except for the table part that he added. Smigel added that he later felt bad about that, as he thinks it caused them to just have Farley drop onto furniture a lot more afterward!

When I first met my wife Mr. Show was one of the first things we realized we had in common. The first time we saw Bob live it was readily apparent the venue started to let the crowd in without informing him. We walked in and there’s Bob Odenkirk just sitting at the bar completely oblivious, so we got to see the up close realization of terror on his face that hoards of people were headed straight toward him, at which point he yelled “God Damnit” in the exact same way he would on Mr. Show and scurried off. Best.
A few years later we ended up meeting him when he wasn’t in panic mode and after we told him what big fans we were he replied “My shoes hurt”.
