My roommate and I are both in the industry and got a huge kick out of Bernie. Obviously a few things here and there were overly dramatic for entertainment purposes, but they had great accuracy in a lot of the details.

As always, thanks for the awesome breakdowns!

As a funeral director, I agree with almost everything that is being said. I have also never tried to get a family to buy an expensive urn. That being said I have only worn a face mask in school. Also, I talk to the dead, usually asking them to be nice so I can make them look pretty for their family members.

I’ve only been to 2 funerals and they were for both grannies. The most recent one was like a month ago though. As grandkids, we all wore a purple flower during the funeral because it was our granny’s favourite colour then at the graveside, we all placed them in the grave after the casket was lowered. We’re a family raised on dark humour so jokes were exchanged through the service but there were still many tears. Especially when one cousin that couldn’t come recorded himself reading a poem he wrote. The poem was filled with inside jokes and got a couple laughs then he destroyed us all with the last line and everyone around me burst out crying.

When the coroner comes they come alone, you showed 2 people and made it sound like there is normally 2 people, but for my dad and my wife they came alone and i actually helped them move my person.
But with my Dad there was an officer there that offered to help , but i didnt mind.
Just wondering , why they only send one person and how that 1 person would move someone if they were morbidly obese.

As a Paramedic, I deal with dead people often. In my job it does not bother me. But when in school to be one, we had cadaver labs where we had to practice (over and over again) intubation, interossious needle insertion, crichothyrotomy, lung needle decompression.

While very instructive and educational, I hated every minute of it. I’m impresses and glad there are people like him who can do it what he does every day

Abou the wrong dead body…. I live in Brazil and not so long ago we saw on TV a woman who was buried by another family because the hospital mixed up the corpses, so when the family received they realized that was not their relative, but the other family made the funeral with the casket closed so they didn’t notice and the corpse was buried. It was really a huge problem to solve. The families needed a court authorization to exchange the bodies.

I would have liked him to state in his conclusion that embalming is not legally required is most deaths. That is the one point that I do think funeral homes make money with an unnecessary procedure.

Corpses in coffins never look real in movies. They are supposed to look like straight mannequin in real life; sorta like a uncanny it used to be someone I cared about type of feeling but its not really them. And they get very skinny and much smaller too.

I personally feel the funerary industry is hugely unneeded . I told my family that I want a natural burial so no embalming and no vault , no casket and buried in a cheap shroud . I would prefer being buried on family land . I want the money I am saving currently to pay for a party 2 weeks after my passing so that people get the proper chance to arrange for days off .I have told anyone that has ears that I do not want a bells and whistles , typical funeral

One of my friends manages several cemeteries, but he’s also a trained mortician and funeral director. But sometimes he misses the artistry of making a person look their best. He was very good too. My grandma had a cardiac event and fell on her face and had significant bruising. (She went quickly.) He was able to cover up almost all except the darkest bruising, but still made her look natural. It was very comforting.

And there I go completely rendom discovering this video. Awesome! I absolutely never put much thought in the job of morticians….but after losing up until now one of my brothers, my Dad and his Mum, my grandma, I am really really thankful that they do this job. I could not say goodbye to my little brother because leukemia took him in two days when I was at school. But the mortician of the town where I lived prepared my brother after his autopsy in a way my other brother and I could at least somehow bid him farewell while seeing him as if he was still there.
Sounds weird but this helped A LOT.
