OMG! Thank you! I can’t tell you how many of these types of videos I’ve watched where they’re like, “TV/Movies are WRONG. Defibrillators don’t do that.” But they never adequately explain what they actually do for lay people like me. But now understand. It’s basically like a slap or splash of cold water to your face when you’re freaking out, except for your heart, when it’s freaking out. Got it. Thank you. I feel 10% smarter now.

“In a tall guy I can get my whole arm inside his belly.”

I like how it’s not “I could probably fit my whole arm inside…” or “sometimes it’s necessary to put my whole arm…” it’s “I can get my whole arm…”

Well, here’s hoping it was a cadaver.

I’m going to argue with you about the appendectomy thing. I sucked it up and after 48 hours my stitches tore as a result of doing normal activities. That’s one-size-fits-all advice and just don’t. It took me four days to get anywhere near normal, but after that I was able to genuinely suck it up and get on with my life. We don’t come out of cookie cutters. Everyone told me to take it easy but i had to be a superhero and hurt myself. My cookie cutter was weird.

Every time I’ve had a doctor tell me to “suck it up,” it has ended badly. Just saying.

I’m sure she’s a very talented doctor, but “suck it up,” is just one of those phrases you’re better off not using. It implies pain doesn’t matter which is a very isolating thing to do to somebody, even if it’s after minor surgery.

  46. Sabrina Greco

    August 20, 2021 at 12:34 am

The last comment she replied too for the activated charcoal. I know she knew what she was referring too and the way she said it without making it sound like super negative or anything just made me feel really comforted. I would 10/10 let her be my suregeon

Crest’s charcoal toothpaste is the cat’s knees & bee’s pajamas. It REALLY whitens your teeth & doesnt taste even slightly different than regular toothpaste. & since it’s toothpaste & you’re not swallowing it (hopefully), you’re not consuming any of the charcoal in it.

    August 20, 2021 at 1:10 am

Foul smelling urine may indicate a genitourinary tract infection. You should go see a physician not a surgeon for that [ along with the defibrillator Q & the pneumonia vs COVID-19 Xrays ]
    Btw I’m a physician 😅

Charcoal ties toxins. In Europe, it is prescribed in poisoning symptoms or diarrhea

  62. BlueDay2

    August 20, 2021 at 7:26 pm

11:30 there is however charcoal that they will give you in the ER if let’s say you took a bunch of pills. It’s basically some sort of charcoal liquid that will minimize the damage done by all the pills.

    Seriously?

  86. Henry Dickerson

    August 22, 2021 at 12:18 am

Unless you’re a healthcare professional using it for one of its limited uses, charcoal should only be used in a grill to make your food taste better. Don’t waste your money with gas grills unless you want something inadequate that just looks pretty.

  103. Jolien Renders

    August 22, 2021 at 10:17 pm

Wow, doctor Lady… An appendectomy is minor for you. However having your belly blown up doesn’t feel nice. And you know, those larscopy cuts may be small, but they’re very deep… So… Yeah also not so nice. Top that with all the crap medication and bad dietary advice… AND the food allergies that come after. Doesn’t feel so minor. 😒

yeahhhhh she clearly has never had her appendix removed, i did a couple months back and was prescribed something way stronger than tylenol and had pain for probably a little over a week, strong pain whenever i moved for like the first 4 days, i think it is very dumb when doctors don’t believe someone telling you how much pain they’re in

  118. Chris Hermes

    August 23, 2021 at 1:03 am

“Just don’t tell your doctor I told you that” sounds like a really good way to lose a license to practice medicine.

Telling someone to “suck it up” when they are having an unusual reaction (extreme tiredness) after a routine surgery. Yup, that’s an American surgeon. Go see your GP and get some blood tests if you are unusually tired after an appendectomy. That genius surgeon who told you to “suck it up” maybe left a sponge or a tool in there or something.

  156. Kit Coffey

“can of suck it up” -yeah, this is actually how most doctors think. They don’t take pain or sleep deprivation seriously- especially if you’re a woman. They think everyone wants to be a sleep deprived resident like they are. Even women doctors act this way. Misogyny and medicine is real and ableism in medicine is real -pass it on.

Why assume that the post-appendectomy patient needs to suck it up instead of asking more questions or encouraging them to see their doctor to make sure they aren’t having any complications? Even a minor surgery like an appi can have complications. My husband was in the hospital for two weeks after his appi due to a post-op ileus and he felt like trash. I totally get doctors being tired and impatient, but some of these questions aren’t so outlandish that the asker needs to be insulted. People ask questions because they want to learn something, and nobody deserves to be belittled for desiring more knowledge.
Tl;dr she spent a lot of this video punching down

The problem with a CAT, SOF-T, RAT, etc is that you have to carry them with you. CATs and SOFTTs are very effective and used by the military but they bulky. It makes sense for the military and LEOs to carry them around because there’s a higher probability of them needing it but for us NPCs, yes, you can use a belt or other things while EMS comes.

Appendectomy isn’t always so minor, mine left me hospitalized for a month because of how severe it was, most Appendectomys are minor but if your like me and wait too long to go in it becomes significantly more dangerous

Don’t confuse “bitchy” with “confidence” and “assertiveness.”
If she were a man, you’d probably be praising her attitude.

  305. U.P

    September 5, 2021 at 7:50 pm

It’s always great to know that when a man is confident and assertive, he’s “professional” and a “leader,” but when a woman is, she’s “sassy,” “bitchy,” “arrogant,” and “condescending.”
Good times we still live in! 😑
