What law has been passed by a state or by the Feds that applies only to men? Is it illegal for a man to have a vasectomy? Is it against the law for a man to have a procedure dealing with his testicles? Can a man be arrested for growing a beard? How about if he refuses to cut that disgusting hair that grows out his nose? Can he go to jail? Is there any procedure that applies only to men that insurance doesn’t cover? I asked my gynecologist those questions and he said I had a perfectly valid point and he thought it was totally wrong when laws were passed and medical decisions were made by lawmakers instead of the person to whom it applied and their doctor. Men can get ED meds covered by insurance. Many companies don’t cover birth control used by women. The *men* researchers who have developed birth control for men say that the men don’t want to take it. Too many side effects. Good thing the pill has no side effects on the women who take them. Why is a medical decision being made for women by a bunch of old men instead of their doctor and her? Why is this a law anyway?

@leodavinci1 A there has long been rumblings about including women in the SSA but nothing has come of it and nothing will anytime soon as neither party wants to address it. No action has been taken to date. Regardless if women are included, which they probably will be eventually, it doesn’t effect my point that men have been forced by their societies to sacrifice their mental and physical well being in combat since the beginning of humanity.

Using the word “abortion” is a deceptive untoward morally bankrupt and insidious attempt to indirectly soften the hard reality of what it really is, which is murder, and thus, the word ‘abortion’ is used because people can’t handle the truth of what it is, it’s murder. Thus ‘abortion’ is a euphemism for murder.
Clearly the pro murder of the little ones in the womb, the way they “rationalize” is evidence of already being a murderer in your heart with the added fact of condoning it while claiming it’s not murder by using corrupted laws of men to claim it’s not.
Those who would dare claim murder of life in the womb is not ‘criminal’, they are the very ones who are the repulsive murderous criminals for advocating murder of living innocent defenceless beings. Those who would advocate murder of precious innocent defenceless very very young male and female mankind beings because they weren’t responsible during sex and thus the gov’t has legislated the murder of the innocent under the utter lie of ‘women’s rights’ (to murder their own living children) all in the name of it being ‘convenient’ because of not being responsible to think that if you are going to engage in sex at least have the maturity to comprehend the consequences or at least don’t have sex at all and avoid the whole getting yourself into of murdering innocent life, the point is it’s murder period.. and to murder innocent males and females of mankind no matter how old they are, is murder, it’s criminal period. Funny though, a woman can terminate her pregnancy whenever, BUT a man can not terminate his responsibility to pay child support if he does not want to be the father, of a child a woman decides she wants to have. Oops that’s right, a man has no say on this issue, because it’s not his body, just don’t forget to pay that child support, because you don’t get to decide the woman should have an abortion.

This is precisely the reason we have the free expression clause in the first amendment. Jefferson said that protection extended not only to freedom OF religion but to freedom FROM religion. The argument about banning abortion based upon the POTENTIAL of a human life is based on a religious belief, not a rational one. No one should be able to impose that belief on another person through the power of the state. Period.

I have heard all of these debates back and forth, but I have not heard two questions brought up or answered. Hopefully this will help to give clarity on these two questions, as people only seem to be looking at one small piece of this puzzle.
1) Where do you drop off the hospital bill and the prenatal care bills for carrying and having this child? If I have no right to decide if I am having this baby or not, then whoever made that decision should pick up the tab. And no I am not having the kid at home, as any medical professional will tell you, there is always the chance of complications, so the safest place to have a child is in a hospital.
2) I hope these states are giving a list of baby drop off stations, because if I was not determined to have the child (for whatever reason – financially, emotionally, mentally, etc) then I surely would not determine to keep it after I have it. So I would assume that there is a list of places that the child may be dropped off (Governors office, Legislative office?) so that these people can ensure that the child will be cared for in a loving and nurturing environment for the next 18 years. As a person once said, “having a child makes you a parent, like owning a piano makes you a pianist.” Not everyone is capable of being a parent, or their current situation may be possibly harmful to one or both of them (woman / child). So I would assume there are individuals standing at the ready to take on these children and raise them to be possitive and productive citizens. Considering how many children are currently in foster care, it should be a breeze to take care of (yes this is sarcasm).
As for women not having sex unless they want children, I want to see men try that little maneuver first. Let me know how long that lasts. It is not my right (or yours) to tell someone they have to have a child, unless you are willing to stand up and take the child on and raise it. You have to be willing to solve the whole problem, not just the initial part.

If you want a list there are 10s of thousands of people on wait lists to adopt children. Call Catholic Charities, the wait list is years long. Why do you think so many people spend thousands of dollars for foreign adoptions? There are not enough babies in the US to meet the demand.

@Keith Folger Actually, there are children available for adoption all the time. Unfortunately, in this country the cost is very high to adopt, and with our system, there is always a chance the birth mother can come back and get the child back through the courts, so people would rather go overseas to adopt, because once the child is here there is little to no chance the original parents will come back looking for the children.

It was meant to communicate how stupendously ignorant those anti-choice legislators passing these laws are. In this case the ideology and irrationality of an anti-choice legislator was so strong that he added an amendment to the law for a procedure that doesn’t exist, I suspect to head off the possibility that a woman might ask for an abortion to safeguard her health in the case of such an ectopic pregnancy. If that doesn’t clue you in as to the ideological “agenda” of the legislators passing these laws, nothing will.

FYI – Other than abstinence, there is no form of contraception that is 100% reliable. Vasectomy failure is very rare, but it does occur. Tubal ligation failure is more common than vasectomy failure.

I frequently run into exactly this argument from global warming deniers. If a documentary states that it will talk about both sides but points out that only a tiny minority of climate scientists disagree with the consensus view that global warming is real and its human caused, then the deniers automatically pull the “its a biased documentary” out of their collective hats. By their logic, the only way it COULD be unbiased would be pretending that both sides had equal or nearly equal scientific support, even though that isn’t true.

While this could qualify as a slightly informative film about pregnancy, it steers well clear of the crux of the issue. Not when does a woman become pregnant, but when when do we consider the unborn a person with all the rights of any other person. The fact that it never mentions that leads me to believe that they are ok with performing an abortion at anytime. Successful premature births and laws that equate the killing of a pregnant woman to two deaths support the idea that a “clump of cells” becomes a person before they leave the birth canal.
The question of abortion has always been when does this shift from a medical procedure to murder.

At least some of the information in this video is wrong. The video states that the true heart beat cannot be detected by 6 wks after fertilization and that heart has not yet formed. This is incorrect. The human heart begins to beat between 21 and 22 days (primitive heart structure and beating present) after conception, so at about 3 wks. In fact, some recent studies suggest that beating may be earlier. By 35 days (5 wks), the major components of the heart have formed though they still have to undergo further development to achieve the four chambered structure. This structure is attained at about 8 wks. Recent studies suggest that the heart muscle tissue is not fully organized until 20 wks; however, this does not mean that the heart cannot beat. While I happen to favor sensible laws that allow abortion, I also believe that information provided by either side of the argument should be accurate. For general information on when and how the heart forms see the following diagram.

And virtually every source I’ve found so far, (about a dozen) state that fetal heartbeats start at 6 to 6 1/2 weeks. The heart starts to form 18 to 20 days after fertilization. (The Mayo Clinic says 4 weeks) Also, brainwaves can be detected at 6 weeks or so.
So basically, she’s full of crap. Shocking, but true…

It’s really unfortunate how toxic the comments are. Everyone seems determined to tell everyone else what to do with their own body, claiming the moral or religious high ground.
