Very nice & crafty lady here – let me just comment on the mask you used when plasma cutting. That seems to be a dust mask which would not filter fumes at all. So be sure you use the right product here – the world doesn’t want to lose you 🙂

level 5 knife is a prefab you just need to assemble. It’s like having a chef warming up a precooked meal. How is this level 5? That’s between 1 and 2 at best.
Also “you wanna make sure, that you are protected against heat” – hammers red hot piece of metal in sleeveless vest with cotton tank top underneath hunched over an anvil that is set way to low.
Sorry WIRED, I get showcasing women outside their gender roles, but at least make sure, they know what they are talking about. “Electrons scattering about the material” LOL

you shouldnt wear gloves when using a grinder or sander. if the glove gets caught in the wheel it will pull your hand in and you wont be able to pull back. If you dont wear gloves and your hand gets nicked, you can still pull away

Disappointed that those levels of complexity only apply to design and materials, not the tools used. Sure, almost everybody has a drill, but how many people have a belt sander or a bandsaw? It would be appreciated to see her using a handheld saw and sandpaper and files for the lvl1, perhaps going up to a handheld electric jigsaw in lvl2. Lvl 3 could’ve used aluminium instead of a rasp.
Man, it looks like she’s hammering on a cold metal in and above lvl 4… Dunno if it’s the camera settings, but it does look dead cold. And you don’t want to hammer on cold metal, cracks are just waiting to happen then.
Heat treating is about scattering electrons? Well, there are electrons in atoms, but that explanation is terrible. Scattering carbon is somewhat correct, you do want to achieve a uniform distribution of it, among other inclusions, like chromium, through the material. The main idea with heat treating though, is to achieve a hard and tough material, by manipulating the grain size and overall crystaline structure of the metal.
Then… Does she know, that you generally sharpen in the opposite direction she’s doing? As in – you push the edge, not pull it. All she’s doing is creating a wire edge, that will be seemingly sharp, but will chip away on the first cut on something even as soft as wood.
Premade blank for a lvl 5? What in the name of all that’s holy?! Is she a knifemaker or knife assembler? That could be good for lvl2 or something, not lvl5!
And finally – her designs are atrocious on all levels. Literally terrible. Why make the handle so skinny in lvl 3? What devilish demons compelled you to incorporate a grater into a knife?
Boy, she looks like she enjoys what she does, and has some experience, but knows next to nothing. Choosing her for this was one of the worst ideas I’ve seen.

A honing steel is not a way to sharpen your knife… This girl should know the purpose of the tool and not equate it to wet stones and other sharpening tools.

Hi Chelsea! I did a couple of blacksmithing courses and my instructor gave me an earful for holding my hammer halfway down the grip like you rather than holding it right at the end. Sweet validation! I wanted to ask what the rationale is for your technique, because intuitively I prefer it

Know your stuff! Metals do NOT have a “molecular structure” (6:25), simply because they don’t consist of molecules. They do have an “atomic structue”, which refers to the arrangement of the atoms on the smallest unit scale, and they have a “microstructure”, which refers to the arrangement of grains and defects on a somewhat larger scale. Both of these are affected by the hammering, heat treatments and quenches, which results in a certain hardness of the final blade. But please don’t talk about a “molecular structure” in this context.
