@GreenAppelPie Exactly, love my Apple TV since I can use my AirPods with it when a normal/average tv doesn’t even offer Bluetooth but it sure has Wi-Fi. I say average cause most I ain’t spending a lot of money on tv’s

Mostly good video. However, I purchased the LG G1 65” for just under $1800 from Best Buy just yesterday, it was $300 off so they say. So please give typical prices, not list prices. It has the HDR and HDMI 2.1 features I was looking for. And capable of good gaming. Users will probably have to use 4K hdmi cables when they upgrade, their pretty reasonable online.
Samsung was a consideration, but it apparently uses ads that you cannot disable, so that didn’t attract me.

Are you sure you got a G1?? The C1 in 65” size is $1799 at BB but the G1 is listed at $2399. Both have been those prices for a while now If you did get the G1 for $1800 kudos to you!!!!

@Drunkenfury led no burn in, OLED chance for burn in. With normal viewing OLED is highly unlikely to get burn in. If you gaming constantly where there are static images or watch a news channel with a static bar across the bottom hours upon hours, day after day after day, maybe you would see burn in. The LG C1 has an automatic pixel refresher/screen cleaner that runs after every 400 hrs. of viewing when you turn the set off to aid in screen clarity and limit the likelihood of burn in.

I always buy a warranty from Best Buy when I get a tv though.

Try looking into the TCL 55 inch 6 series. It’s on Amazon for $700 and it is a mini QLED with dolby vision and HDR 10. if you just want a super simple 4K tv, the TCL 43 inch 4 series is on amazon right now for $300.

It should last for 10+ years if you take care of it. In terms of 4k resolution as a technology, well, consider when 1080p TVs came out. Bought Samsungs with 1080p resolution in 2008 and 2009. 10-12 years ago, that’s like the stone age, when you consider technology advances. However, many TV broadcasts are still in 720p or 1080p. 4k content has really just taken off in the last few years. The new cutting edge, which is 8k, hardly has any application at this point and in fact, buying 8k TV is not something you need, unless you’re buying Samsung’s “The Wall” or something ridiculously large, which if you are, well money is no object so who cares. It is difficult to discern pixelation on even large screens at 4k, even sitting very close. I’d expect it to last for a good while.

Price update! Literally every price he mentioned it’s like $300-$500 higher then what they are now. The G1 55 is $1700 now vs what he said was $2200. They must of made this like 2 months ago when prices were high.

Correct. LCD televisions can get much brighter and those have much more impactful high APL HDR and higher color volume. But OLED has much better light control and does a better job with low APL HDR – small specular highlights such as stars, street lambs, car lights are actually brighter. Currently there isn’t an affordable display technology that exceeds at both. OLED is still considered the best display technology among videophiles but it has a smaller usage case. The average consumer probably prefers the brightness of LCD.

The panel in the LG G1 isn’t unique to G1. It is also in SONY A90Js, which has arguably better picture quality, and has much better sound quality.

The problem here is cnet has tested only a small number of models which is inexcusable for technology based website. Katzmaier hasn’t tested a number of Sony televisions such as the A90J, A80J and X95 which compete very well against the LG OLED and Samsung QLED televisions.
The A90J is arguably the best television you can buy money no object. It has what is called a heatsink behind the panel which allows the TV to dissipate heat more efficiently and hence is able to push specular highlights hard without fear of image retention.
The A80J competes with the C1 on price but has better overall video processing. The C1 is better for hardcore gamers.
The X95J competes with the QN90A and arguably has better overall PQ. Currently the X95J costs more but I suspect it will come down in price as we get deeper into the Holiday season.
No one will probably believe me but I don’t own a Sony and have no plans to do so. I just think it’s pretty blatant that cnet has their best list but hasn’t reviewed a notable part of the mid to high end television market.

Thank you for sharing; I have a “dinosaur” Samsung from 2009. Burn-in is kinda bad on it, but it took a while to get there. Maybe I should re-consider OLED.
