Nearly fifteen percent of the world’s population lives with a disability, yet this massive chunk of humanity is still routinely excluded from opportunities. Sharing her experience growing up with an autistic sister, disability inclusion advocate Meghan Hussey illuminates the path towards an inclusive future in four steps, and it starts with an attitude check on assumptions and stereotypes. Designing a world built for everyone is not a “nice to have,” Hussey says — it’s critical to the fabric of society.

This reminds me of the activists who are against treating disabilities because they consider it a genocide of blind and deaf people etc.

That is awful. I am a senior and know many people who are deaf due to age. Many, including me, have vision problems. Believe me, the seniors have a great influence. We would never be warehouses, and neither should young children.

There are words which are thrown around by news anchors or polity analyst which would not be used in TV or film, been that way for decades, I wonder why that is…

    • Lucas H

      November 19, 2022 at 6:16 pm

      How?

    • Scarlett Dimeloe

      November 19, 2022 at 7:41 pm

That would involve eugenics which is horrible and genocide of a group of people. There is nothing wrong with being disabled. For disabilities that cause the disabled person pain yes we need treatments but there aren’t cures. There will always be disabled people and its normal species variation.

    🔴 *The Apostle Paul’s Terrible Error* 🔴

    📍In the Old Testament:
=>the Holy Place contains: Table of Showbread (Showbread on it) + Candlestick + Altar of Incense.
=>the Holy of Holies contains: Ark of the Covenant

” Hebrews 9:2-4 ” *“²For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. ³ And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; ⁴ Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant”.*

    There are three errors :
    – Firstly, Paul mentioned the Table *AND* the Showbread, knowing that the latter is *ON* the Table. (Exodus 25:30  “And thou shalt set *upon* the table shewbread before me alway.”)
    – The second error is that Paul mentioned the golden censer in the Holy of Holies. Moreover, If we suppose that the golden censer is an element in the Holy of Holies, why was it not mentioned in the Torah or in the Jewish heritage?  It is not logical that it’s not mentioned in the Torah and then Paul mentioned it after that. The fourth verse mentioned the golden censer then the Ark of the Covenant which contained the Golden Pot, Aaron’s Rod, and the Tablets of the Stone; if the golden censer was of Aaron’s legacy, then Paul should have mentioned it among the contents of the Ark of the Covenant, not in the Holy of Holies.
    – The third error is that Paul did not mention the Altar of Incense at all.

    – *Father Matta El Meskeen. The Epistle to the Hebrews: Explanation and Study, pp. 519-520:* the Altar of Incense: the Apostle Paul did not mention it here, and the reasons and interpretations differed…. and in Hebrews 9:4, he mentioned a golden censer, baffling the commentators, because it is known that the Altar of Incense is in the Sanctuary.
    – *John Gill’s Exposition:* but here a difficulty arises, how this can be said to have been in the holy of holies, and within the vail, when, according to Moses, it was without the vail, and was only carried within on the day of atonement; and so Philo the Jew (a) places it in the other part of the tabernacle; and it seems as if it was to avoid this difficulty, that the Ethiopic version has removed it from this verse to verse the second, and put it among the things that were in the holy place.
    – *Franz Delitzsch. Commentary On The Epistle To Hebrews, pp. 54-55:* Such being the Hellenistic usage, and in particular that that of Josephus and Philo, whose phraseology has so many points of resemblance to that of other author, it seems impossible to escape the conclusion that θυμιατηριον means here the incense-altar, and nothing else. It would be, moreover, a quite inexplicable omission in this connection, had he said nothing about it. But if θυμιατηριον here I the altar of incense, the sacred writer appears to be involved in the grosse error of supposing that this golden altar, of which Philo says correctly that it stood between the golden candlestick and the holy table… and Bleek draws thence the conclusion that he could not have been a Jew of Palestine: but even supposing him to have been an Alexandrine Jew, he must have been a monster of ignorance and forgetfulness to be capable of such a mistake.
    – *Ellicot’s Commentary for English Readers:*  The incense-altar and the ark are coupled together, and the word which describes their relation to the Holiest Place is that which, a little later in this verse, distinctly signifies “containing.” So weighty is this consideration that many have been unable to avoid the conclusion that the writer has erred in this matter of detail; and various suppositions have been resorted to in explanation of his mistake.
    – *Expositor’s Greek Testament:* … and the versions of Symmachus and Theodotion in Exodus 31 use θυμιατήριον for “altar of incense”. Besides, the form of the word indicates that it could be used of anything on which incense is offered. It was, therefore, understood of the “altar” by Clement Alex. and other fathers; by Calvin, who says, “quo nomine altare suffitus vel thymiamatis potius intelligo quam thuribulum;” and by most modern scholars. As has frequently been urged it is incredible that in describing the furniture of the tabernacle there should be no mention of the altar of incense. Difficulty has been felt regarding the position here assigned to it, for in fact it stood outside the veil; and the author has been charged with error.

✴️One of the commentators say that Paul mentioned the golden censer in the Holy of Holies for fear of theft and to be in a safe place, and this is very funny because the commentator forgot that the Candlestick and the Table are plated with gold. Therefore, the commentary is ridiculous, because even if the golden censer was moved to the Holy of Holies for fear of theft, the Candlestick and the Table are plated with gold too (Exodus 25).

🔴 The question remains, why did Paul not mention the Altar of Incense? There are two solutions, the sweetest of which is bitter; either Paul did not write by inspiration or he is an ignorant liar.

The more research I do into disabilities and access, the more shocked I am by the magnitude of disabled people not getting any opportunities to be involved in society, not getting access to sign language, 2% of deaf people, not getting access to Braille, 10% of the blind, people with vision loss.

    This is so important!
I have to use a walker most of the time but occasionally, a cane. It wasn’t until I started using these mobility aides that I realized how difficult it can be to maneuver in many public places. Unless you use them or a wheelchair, or have someone close to you who does, one doesn’t usually realize the situation. Even going to my local Dollar General, I often find it difficult to get down the aisles because they put so many displays in them. My other issue with them is when stocking shelves, they bring out these huge bins that take up too much space. The frustration I feel must be nothing for how someone in a chair feels. Most will find this particular store completely inaccessible. I’ve complained to the past four managers and contacted corporate and not a thing has changed.
I challenge everyone to really take in your environment the next time you do something routine such as pumping gas, going to the bank (where my cane got caught up in a plant outside their door because it had tendrils falling all over the path into the door, informed them, plant was still there two weeks later), shopping retail, or going out for a meal. See it through the eyes of a person with mobility needs or someone who is blind (especially with all those obstacles in the aisles). If you’re one of those folks who submits surveys stores offer on their receipts, please mention when you find areas of their business that isn’t accessible for people with disabilities; be an advocate, please.

Hundreds of millions of migrant workers travel within their countries to seek out means of survival — often leaving behind all they know for months or even years. Many face poverty and exploitation, and they need a robust social safety net to protect them, says migrant advocate and 2023 Audacious Project grantee Ashif Shaikh. He shares how his grassroots organization Migrants Resilience Collaborative is making life-changing benefits like social security and health care accessible to those who need them while also amplifying migrant voices — paving the way towards a world that supports the workers actually building it. (This ambitious idea is a part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)
