I thought I should share that I am using Windows 11 as my primary Operating System. After downloading the prerelease ISO file, I installed it in a VMware Workstation and found that Windows 11 runs as smoothly as Lynx OSs. I tried installing it as an upgrade on my desktop and laptop; it wouldn’t install because they didn’t have the security needs.
Windows 11 was installed in the VMware Workstation fine, so I converted the Virtual Machine file to a Virtual Hard Drive file. Using EasyBCD 2.4 I edited the boot command with a second boot option of the VHD file. The Virtual Hard Drive file is over 60-Gigs on my 500-Gigs Solid State Drive and it boots to Windows 11 Pro that can install updates.

This is a good thing. So many non tech savvy people with ancient hardware blame all their problems on Windows.

What about having to long on to your microsoft account to even use the computer? Microsoft does not need to see my private buisness and this will absolutely give them 100% access to do that. They are not at all a secure network. This level of control that microsoft now wants is unacceptable. My new pc gave me no choice about logging on to microsoft. UNACCEPTABLE!

Oh, great! Big tech company being able to look into and decide what app I can install or not on my pc, all in the name of security of course. I wonder if this will be tied to a social credit score of some sorts.

I have been a MS user and PC service tech since 1985 and using Windows since Windows 286 was introduced since 1988 so if my good old fast enough Gen 2 i7 hardware with 500W dual power supply is not compatible this time… goodbye MS Windows and Hello Apple M1 that uses only 15 Watt at peak power!!! Enough is enough!! I am not upgrading the hardware this year for Windows 11 so it would be out dated when Intel ARM processer releases next year and the new Windows 11 ARM version will be running much faster also. The Apple M1 is already both hardware and software ARM proofed already. Total marketing scam by MS and supporting manufactures for the consumer.

Most of Microsoft’s Surface devices are compatible. They have TPM 2.0 and secure boot. I’ve asked Microsoft engineers to put the excluded processors back on the official list. There’s no good reason to keep PCs from being upgraded to Windows 11 just because of the processor, if they meet all the other requirements and Microsoft hasn’t offered any counter examples to refrain from doing so.

  22. Andrew Logan

Windows main purpose is a platform to sell services. Sales are secondary. I have updated four different old machines to Windows 11 and they run very well. If 100 million other people do the same, the users don’t have a problem, Microsoft does.

I’m surprised Microsoft is even trying this given how long it has taken them to get rid of Windows 7.

Sure… If the only thing you do is video editing aka content creation..

Otherwise you can do all the same things in Linux..without paying the asinine high price tag for an overhyped OS experience in which crapple can ,depending on the situation… And has proven to be in history,… JUST as Draconian as Microshit.

I’m actually so intrigued by this update and not in an all around “good way” I personally love windows 11 as it stands (also a fan of VS 2022) but what intrigues me is I currently have Windows 11 running on my Surface Pro 2…255gb ssd 8GB Ram and a Turbo Boosted i5. Now my gaming PC built for longevity with 2 1TB HDD a 256GB SSD a Founders edition 8GB GTX 1080 32GB DDR4 and a I5 6 core 11600k can not run windows 11. Soley because of the TPM 2.0 requirement. Which I personally think (despite security) is just an Inness Stu over each for the next OS

Her: What to do if you cannot install Windows 11?
    Me: Download and install Manjaro.

    • Motoryzen

      September 6, 2021 at 3:09 pm

I would never recommend manjaro for incoming Linux Noobs…yes it’s more user friendly to install and set up than vanilla Arch, but then again…ANYTHING ..is.

Linux Lite, or especially Linux Mint Cinnamon has been THE easiest most gentle learning curve transition into Linux from Windows I’ve seen in my 11 years of using Mint Cinnamon.

The point is, best chance of success of the person ACTUALLY staying with Linux…that is…, to recommend a distro that is THAT user friendly.

Manjaro has come a good ways, but also still have a few stability issues.

The new MS MacOS Wannabe System Requirements.

    • Motoryzen

      September 6, 2021 at 11:03 pm

Um…no…EXCEPT for the damn redesigned Windows notifications….NOTHING about windows 11 is like mac os.

There is not dock at the bottom

There is no panel up top

There is no ” stacks” folder in which all contents shoot up in a single file line vertically ( UNLIKE the start menu in win11 in opens contents in a more squared format)

The start menu search in windows is NOTHINg like in spotlight

Finally the damn windows file explorer is NOTHING like what the file manager is in Mac

so..NO…it isn’t a mac os wannabe just because ONE measly thing looks like something else in mac..

Micorshit copied pieces of KDe and gnome desktops in LINUX…not apple.

it sounds like microsoft with this windows 11 version, may be running some BTC mining software in the background every time you use your computer, there’s no need to require so much RAM and CPU cores for everyday web browsing unless you have a very expensive gaming rig which most of ppl don’t have. If you want a secure OS get a LINUX.

  43. Chris

    September 6, 2021 at 4:40 pm

Microsoft is simply trying to invigorate sales of the new Windows 11. For each copy installed on all new PCs sold it’s ka ching for them. The tpm idea is simply to aid Microsoft having to less secure the operating system itself saving Microsoft money. It’s only Microsoft doing it’s usual business thing modelled from the days of Bill Gates the con artist who originally scammed businesses in his younger years. Research the man’s history. Society looks upon him when in reality should look down on him for the con artist he was… Same with Steve Jobs. Con artists who ammased fortunes.

@STONKS📈 Nothings perfect in the computer and software world. Perhaps linux isn’t for everyone. Quality applications take time to create, and time to work out any issues. Linux has come a long way over the years, and, they continue to improve. linux works just fine for my needs. It’s an excellent alternative to Microsoft.

Microsoft thinks that they are too smart to force consumers into buying new hardware in the name of security so that they can take a cut from the OEMs. Its gonna backfire and will end up as vista fiasco. I won’t update or upgrade for certain for these greedy clowns who thinks that they can dictate customers. I would certainly switch to macs if they are adamant with these specs. Mac is way stable and secure than this crap which cause all sorts of problems with each update. So adios Microsoft and Windows.

  52. Sub80

    September 7, 2021 at 8:21 am

Windows 11 is a dumpster fire already. My daughters mini laptop with Intel Celeron N4020 with TPM 2.0 ad Secure Boot is supported, but my wife’s Surface Pro 3 with i5-4300U with TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot is not. i5-4300U has a 15% faster single core speed, 50% faster multi-core speed and has 60% higher CPU passmark score. I think there’s something beyond performance and TPM they are not telling us about.

None of the 11 machines I have at home qualify. The 400 machines we just bought a couple of months ago also do not qualify. SO I am going to ignore windows 11. I retire in 9 years and can keep the machines at work running until then

  59. P. Wingert

I have two machines that have TPM 2.0 on the processors, but the BIOS has no control to activate it! Those machines are eliminated.

    September 8, 2021 at 5:09 am

I suspect most machines will not be compatible. One report I saw suggests that 96% of all PCs are not eligible. That’s about one billion machines give or take.
