US President Joe Biden and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping recently met in San Francisco. It was the first time Xi had visited the US in six years — and the first time the two leaders had met in person in a year. Geopolitical expert Ian Bremmer explains the implications of the meeting, sharing context and insight on areas where the pair agree — and flagging key areas where tensions might yet arise. (This conversation with TED’s Helen Walters was recorded on November 20, 2023.)

The Hegemonic US will still demand America First and World Domination under the American rule-based international order. Whereas, China will insist on Mutual Respect Win-Win Trade Common-Prosperity and non-interference with each other’s internal affairs. The confrontational relationship will persist until a new world power equilibrium is established most probably by the end of this decade

There IS no conflict, there is only understanding. Our Government is deaf dumb & blind when it comes to PEACE and understanding and right & wrong. 😢
OUR U.S. GOVERNMENT IS WRONG once again! Just like with The Vietnam war and The Korean war! The policies of a Country (like communism)is irrelevant to the FACT that it’s the same land, people, language and Country. Our U.S. Political Branch is all about CHAOS and murder and they need to listen to me and WE THE PEOPLE before it’s too late.

Biden this , Biden that? Come on, he clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing in APEC. He’s not running the show and just a puppet. As far he’s concerned China is just a poor communist country. This guy is totally lost in his own world and having dementia. He should just remain in the wh and not allow him to talk or go anywhere. Enough is enough of damages and shame he brought upon US and all the president. First Trump and now him. Eight years of such continue horrible leadership will destroy any country. Hopefully the next one will be better.

It seems nobody wants to see that the levers of enrichment created during the last 400 years were not created for the betterment of families and individuals but for the enrichment of the elites. What they sold as progress came with the exploitation of all ressources in a very undisciplined way, which brought in the many ills we have today. Would industrialization have happened without the corporations and the concentration of capital? It would have happened at a smaller scale and at a slower pace, which would have given a multitude of communities, family businesses and cooporatives time to evolve and adapt to their respective local needs.

With the concentration of capital, the big banks and corporations are able to quickly shift production from one place on the earth to the other, leaving behind destroyed communities and a drug addiction epidemic which is in my view a genocide of the left behind. In our present day emerging surveilllance economy, the too powerful have no desire for a more equitable world. Their desire is to build a world for themselves and treat the rest of us like the monarchy and empires treated the indigenous peoples and smaller, less developed countries around the world.

We definitely need to fight hypocrisy which has deceived us into participating in the present speedy walk into the abyss. The laws written under the pressure of powerful lobbyists enable the unceasing creation of ever greater levers of enrichment and power accumulation to the point where Western states are on the verge of bankrupty. It is time to pull the blanket back to cover those who are left naked. The inflation we have experienced and are still experiencing is a shift of wealth from the many to the few and amounts to the greatest robbery in human history, far surpassing what Russian oligarchs have stolen from Russian citizens.

    1. Winnie Xitler came to the US begging for money because “Wolf Diplomacy” backfired in his face. Economy is doing terribly at home.
    2. President Biden was like whatever. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (Winnie Xitler’s words mean very little if anything. He *NEVER* kept a single promise in the past. NOT ONE).
    3. Xilter went home _EMPTY HANDED_ DO NOTE, that this was his *LAST CHANCE” to make good on his words (no one is counting on it).
    4. President Joe Biden came out a HUGE Winner.
    5. The US will not only keep all existing sanction in place, they will actually make it even HARDER for Xitler to obtain US technology for military use. We don’t just assume Xitler will attack Taiwan, we know HE WILL. No more fish and honey, it’s ALL WHIPS & GUNS from now on. THE ONLY language a tyrant understands.

We (Humanity) need to evolve past our totally outdated, utterly failed ways of perceiving and understanding the beautiful planet, that we all live on and share. We need to rid ourselves of narrow-minded, tribalistic, hate-mongering politicians, with their never-ending narratives of separation, division and otherness. So backward facing and out of sync with today’s reality!

I agree that china wants a stable world but, I say but, they want world domination without fighting a war. That’s what they want, look at what they are doing in the south china sea, the pacific islands, africa, middle east. Chinese presense and influence are all over the place yet they don’t to fight wars but instead bribe and intimidate you for siding with them.

People forget, China graciously picked up ‘our tab’ after the collapse in ’08. They didn’t have to do that, obviously people didn’t appreciate it for what it was, and they did it while putting historical mistreatment behind them. There will never ever be a war, quit buying the bs, these two countries are Siamese twins – you can’t have 1 without the other plain and simple. It is denial and providing purchase to what the media is selling you… after all would you chop off your own arms? Just asinine and shameful we cant just move forward in a healthy way. A lake of truth with an ounce of poison, an outcome of manufacturing consent about [carcinogenic propaganda] related to China loan holdings being beyond 30%, is only surpassed by the truth that Western IMF/WB/ Eu hold 65%-68% of short-term debt trap loans on the ‘throats’ of developing nations. US President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Apex Summit in San Francisco, marking the first time the two leaders have met in person in a year. The meeting was significant given the current geopolitical risks around the world, including conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. The two leaders discussed ways to contain these conflicts and prevent them from escalating further, despite being on opposite sides of the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The US has provided more support to Ukraine than any other country in the world, while China has a close relationship with Iran and has not condemned Hamas for their terrorist attacks. However, both countries benefit from a stable global backdrop, with free and open trade and a functioning global economy. The leaders discussed getting messages to the Iranians to limit their involvement in the conflict and prevent challenges in global energy supply. The Chinese expanded their military presence in the region to ensure that conflicts do not prevent energy from getting through the Straits of Hormuz. Despite their differences, the two leaders are looking at the conflicts through a lens of preventing escalation and finding ways to contain them.

The economy in China is fundamentally much stronger than Ian said, as the most comprehensive and productive industrial system is in China(that’s why we hear the West humiliates and blames China for ‘over capacity/supply’ day in day out, try to manipulate people’s mind with the ‘it’s all bad China’s fault’ scenario which unfortunately and obviously is completely wrong, and the truth is simply because the West especially the US is outcompeted by China in different industries one after another)
Just because of the capacity of China’s industries, it’s much easier for the Chinese to balance the whole society and get away from suffering with inflation, and inflation is actually the biggest ongoing pain which already hit most of the West people heavily over the last 2 years, although it’s definitely some consequences ever since the Fed started printing limitlessly started back in early covid

I follow this a lot. Not too bad for an American older guy analysis. I think there are a few things that still need to be addressed. Skilled labor, Americans not great at learning and bad work ethic, China’s new innovation push and culture of innovation. China’s manufacturing creates more fossil fuels usage than the actual person’s daily life usage? Africa and other areas of the world negative opinions of the west due to the actual infrastructure china built there that benefits the locals. Why would the people in the Belt and road initiative areas trust the west after many centuries of colonialism without results, but now China’s infrastructure yields tangible results. Wouldn’t they just share the resources with China? Check out what the locals say in the areas. Also, China’s rate of tech growth is still accelerating, and is likely going to surpass us while dominating the global chip market to developing countries. Boeing is likely to be in 3rd place soon, etc

The U.N. and the U. S. both recognize Taiwan as a part of China, and both recognize the government in Beijing as the legitimate government of China. Therefore it follows that the Beijing government has legitimate sovereign power over Taiwan.
Now the U.S. says it will defend Taiwan against a Chinese invasion. This is like saying that China will defend Hawaii from an American invasion. Don’t you see the absurdity of the U.S. position?

50% of Americans just blindly follow the gov’t. They don’t independently research anything nor do they even question their gov’t decisions. Because US says Taiwan wants independence, thus Americans believe that is true. Because US says China will invade Taiwan, thus Americans believe that to be true. Because US says Russia is the enemy, then they believe that to be true…. Yet both countries China and Russia saved US during WWII with Japan from being overtaken by Japan.

I do think he is the most balanced, I have heard in a long time. But I did laugh when he said Biden likes Xi. I would think so, since China was making his son and members of Biden family richer….. But Xi is a diplomat and will always take the smoother course with the opposition while supporting China’s growth.

Xi was upset when Biden previously called him a Dictator. Especially since China goes thru elections and it was iffy that last time if Xi would receive another term. But recently Xi commented on Biden’s age and experience and said he would overlook the words and watch what actions take place. It, seemed to me, he was acknowledging Biden’s health situation, and would ignore what he personally says, but would judge US based on White House actions. When Biden recently again called Xi a Dictator, Xi and Chinese media ignored it.

What is going on? Trump started a play and Biden wanted to let it play out. There is nothing wrong with it. Only after the hand is completely played out, should we change course. If you don’t let the hand to play it out, then both the Right camp and history, will keep telling how wrong Biden is for NOT having the hand play out. So here we are, watching PAINFULLY at the play, can not do anything to stop it. The hand will play out after gains COMPLETE SUPPLY CHAIN INDEPENDENCE, and we will become second fiddler to them. That is the ONLY OUTCOME. The reason is simple: YOU DO NOT BLUFF THE GUY WHO MAKE THINGS! China makes things. The world needs things. He simply goes somewhere else to sell his things. YOUR AMERCIAN BLUFF OF SANCTION THIS AND SANCTION THAT HAVE NO LONG LASTING IMPACT TO CHINA.

But whatever … let the hand play out. That is the only way. REALITY IS REALITY.

US created the Ukraine war to benefit their Military Industrial Complex and at the same time driving Europe and Russia into a conflict which they could carry on Kidnapping the Allies with war threat.. Unfortunately for the American things didn’t look good for the US according to their plan as China anticipated and spoiled the American evil intention plan.. Therefore US is now seeking to end the war with billions of dollars wasted without reaching their goal..😅

This attempt by Xi at a reproachment with the US smells like a ploy to gain time! It reminds me of Germany circa 1939 with Nevil Chamberland’s return from a meeting with Hitler clutching a piece of WORTHLESS paper, claiming peace in our time!
It feels like Xi realized he over reached his power and got slapped on his nose. Xi like Hitler started his war for global domination 5 years too soon.
Now Xi decided to try to lessen the neglective impact on China’s economy and gain time and money to build up his military for the fight they want at their time and place.
China’s overall economy both domestic and globally are in shambles. Xi is looking for a pause in the decline to shift China to a war time economy with all manufacturing controlled by the state. This process is well underway but far from done.
The US should be Leary of Xi’s attempt to make nice because it’s not a genuine offer and is just another diversion for elections to happen in Taiwan and America that MIGHT change administration with more pro Chinese views.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN Xi’s mind and he still is pursuing a China first policy. Don’t take your eye off the ball for a second or he’ll steal it!

Not sure where he got the idea that the USA and China is the two most powerful countries in the world. It could add to his argument if he could use military example to back up his statement. If it is one thing both the Ukraine and Syrian conflict as proven is that the Russians are way ahead of any singular country. Currently the Russians are taking on 44 countries and winning with a fraction of their power.

There is no way that Russia would have invaded Ukraine without China’s blessing. All the conflicts erupting thereafter are absolutely related and are to destabilize wherever possible to take attention away from the grand plan to change world order that was premature and failed miserably. How can anyone condone all these Russian land grabs with a straight face? Crimea, Moldova, Georgia. Russia mass populates in other countries, meddles in governments and elections, and claims they need to go rescue their Russian speaking population and the “separatists” want to “breakaway” … what a joke. The West (Obama) failed when they didn’t react to the Crimea land grab. Clearly no reaction to these events emboldens repeating them. All these things are why we are experiencing all this global unrest. Xi gave Putin his blessing, because the bottom line is, either way China wins in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Putin was played.

Any social system has two sides. In the past history, as Karl Max exposed Capitalism goes always in a circle ending with I sortable class contrast and conflict; as a new political system, Socialism has short history and so far no one country could provided sufficient experience. China has done best obviously among the Socialism society, but need to explore more to make it improved and better. If you had ever gone to China, experiencing in person, then come to a conclusion. 600 years ago China had been the biggest power for a long term and Chinese fleet of over 10,000 ships arrived Africa, only for trade, not for invasion, robbery and bully. On the contrary, who has been doing this.

Why the lady presenter say “China Dominate Asia”? It is an improper wrong leading question which she is using her own subjective view rather than telling a fact. Her view could be caused and influenced by what she was wrongly leading but as a media worker, each word in using should be accurate and strict. What China and the west have brought to the other countries, no wars but peace, no upending the governments but respecting, no bullying and treating by using the military power but safety, and so on, like in Sri Lanka, Chinese debt only occupies less 5%, the smallest. On the contrary, where a war occurs, another side can be seen there.

The CCP obviously doesn’t give a damn about its “children”, ie the Chinese citizenry, and they appear to be getting ready to revolt.

A professional who believes “China is in probably the worst economic position structurally they have been in 40 or 50 years”??
50 years ago, in 1972, there were no private businesses, virtually no foreign trade, no private cars and homes in China, and the economic position was structurally better, or about the same as today??

Chinese Conundrum: To compete with China, USA will need to adopt their meritocracy government style. That won’t happen, and the powers that control the USA will burn down the world rather than let China win.

    November 29, 2023 at 2:23 pm

Correction: The US wants a stable global only if it is the kingpin especially by flexing its military strength. China wants a stable global regardless, it believes it can compete successfully relying on core capability.

In my opinion, President Biden is the stock puppet a placeholder for someone who has actual skills. So far is I’ve been able to determine from all sources. He has been a pebble in the shoe of your man, creating far more trouble than anything else. More importantly, for the American people is created a situation delirious to our economic well-being, as well as created an animosity such that there may be blowback well into the future regardless of what other good will and well intention political leaders may come after him.

Also, I noticed you engaged in Declarations of intent about foreign countries, but you called various names. This is Peyton part of the indoctrination and propaganda situation in which we live and have been programmed.

China opposes the presence of American tech companies within its borders, and this stance is not solely driven by concerns about censorship. Instead, it is rooted in a desire for sovereignty. Documents disclosed by Edward Snowden reveal that certain American tech firms maintain extensive connections with the U.S. government, enabling them to be wielded as political instruments. It’s ironic to mention utilizing military channels to mitigate confrontation when, in reality, the U.S. is establishing military bases along China’s coast and deploying military vessels in the region. This situation draws parallels with historical events, such as the enduring Cuban predicament, where the presence of Russian military bases resulted in prolonged economic blockades. Imagine if China had military bases in Cuba today I’m 100% Washington would lose their minds.
