Why would Microsoft buy Activision Blizzard but keep the biggest IPs multi platform. The point is to sell gampass and the Xbox platform. Why is this a question every time. Sony would never do this if the table was flipped.

That whole thing of having two subscription service confuses me. I get signing up to get the multiplayer and downloading the one free game you get a month. But the way XBOX/Microsoft is doing it is economical to the user and the service. I don’t see too many shilling out money for both services when Microsoft and Nintendo have both tied into ine

Ask yourself one simple question…”why would I pay $68 billion for the largest gaming acquisition in the history of the industry to continue to allow business as usual with the games still being made on my competition’s console?” You are dead wrong on COD continuing to be on the PS platform.

    • Kxkv K

      January 19, 2022 at 1:18 am

It actually makes sense to keep it multi platform. They will make more money for cod on Xbox and PC and will make money for every PS cod sold as well. If anything the “exclusive for one year” deal that’s for PS only right now will move over to Xbox but the franchise is a multi billion dollar franchise it only makes sense for them to double dip

This could be bad news for gaming. Microsoft is looking to go the streaming route with gaming. You won’t actually own the games anymore due to digital rights/streaming. Gamepass will also see price hikes in the near future.

Hard to say … but Sony Playstation execs now have a second black eye…first Zenimax, now Blizzard and some Activision franchises … they’ll survive, but MS is taking Sony for its punching bag right now…sony should have accepted MS offer to take down the “exclusives” wall from the consoles…but no, they sent MS packing 3 years ago, so MS is retaliating and buying everything to crush anyone in in their path.

If you look at the bigger picture, It’s all about cloud infrastructure. As an IT guy & business analyst, cloud infrastructure is the future and also the biggest money maker & market. Microsoft wants to push their “AZURE” cloud service & their CEO is all about the “CLOUD” because it’s a HUGE MONEY MAKER right now

Cloud gaming definitely is the future but fast reliable internet needs to be more easily available and at a lower cost. Gamepass also has to change where they can possibly allow you to own 1 game of your choosing after owning game pass for 6-7 months because I don’t feel comfortable paying for something I won’t be able to own if I can no longer afford the service.

Pft, seruiously no big deal. i mean come on, Activision recieved just a slight upgrade by aquiring blizzard. i mean Wow is dead since they killed open world pvp with burning crusade. yeah it was fun for a while but no longer then that for me at least. Starcraft 2 yeah well sorry to put it like that but starcraft was still kinda better sure not grfx wise… and diablo omg the last one was horrible. i might miss the elder scrolls – well after skyrim the series with online was not that cool either the best part still is morrowind for me at least. CoD – don’t play shooters. And no clue how good overwatch might be, but definitely not into candy crush. i don’t know like if microsoft would have bought steam that would be a desaster but did activision actually make any good games lately? i mean that company was too big already and i am sick of stuff not properly working on release. or features being poorly implemented crashes and such stuff. sorry but the innovative stuff is in the indiescene anyway, really good gems to be found. not that same bs but better grfx every year milking stuff with the games “streamlined” and such sorry microsoft since TCPA i nevr touched any of your stuff and as it looks like for good reason. oh yeah minecraft R.I.P. people say it is still good though. Anyone else not convinced about the recent releases of the big “gaming” guys. or am i alone here? i mean since ubisoft killed the settlers i never touched one of their games again. maxis – please spare me. activision well i just feel like there is a trend there the bigger they get the lamer the games become don’t ya think? i mean fanboyism aside in general don’t you feel that whenever the game has a number behind it stuff might be cool if the number is below three but then things go downhill pretty quickly…. Oh remember when we had physical cardridges to plug into our consoles? no updates it either worked and was great or it sucked. good ‘ol times!

I’m going to point out this is big. What people are missing is Valve does not care because a lot of there money comes from Steam which in the PC market is between 50% to 70% of where people buy there games. the fact that EA has there games on there now and even the Halo games.

I’m just going to say it this is not about the metaverse or VR Valve was doing that before many of these other companies . We as gamers need Nintendo, Sony, etc to really take it more serious when it comes to buying games for download. At some point that’s where consoles will go just as PCs have done.

So unless every one just wants to be games from Steam who will then jack up there prices to god only know how high we as gamers need to push the other big two of three to fallow suit with Microsoft. Set up there version of Gamepass that works on console and PC.

Give us gamers as many options of where to get games as we can get. I like Steam but I don’t want them to be the only store in town. And with GOG hurting and Epic just throwing money with free games who is there really besides Steam?

If Lands of Lore becomes a series again donations to the hungry can be made whole cities could get funds
all due to new creativity more buying and selling means donation and hope for the poor and hungry.
It would mean creativity and the sadness in the world would be less it would mean fans films that
could help others it could mean plushies and action figures, it could mean bed sheets and t-shirts anyway

Cloud gaming has a long way to go most of the world has a connection speed lower than 200mb per second . And the cost of playing games on cloud services is too high . With Netflix ,Hulu, HBOMAX, Disney+, Apple tv, Amazon prime it’s just to much and there’s not enough room in the market for all of them.

This purchase is about the “meta-verse”, this purchase is about the cloud-gaming future. Honestly, COD is a drop in the bucket as far Microsoft’s long term plans. COD, sans Warfare, will be a console/PC exclusive. I doubt COD will be released on an annual basis anymore.

    Was Activision broke ..

This must stop now, Microsoft is trying to monopolize gaming and the Government has to stop Microsoft now. They went after Google and Apple , They must put a stop to this. This is absurd. If it was easy to get rid of Bobby the share holder and others in the company would have gotten it done by now but its not that simple and Microsoft isn’t about to tell him they will fire him day one or else he would have never gone along with the sale. So they play the PR game by not saying anything bad about him at the same time don’t defend him. When they “officially” take over they he will be gone with a severance package. Is it fair, no but its the only way to get rid of him.

lol. If it were Sony who bought Activision, there’d not even be a discussion about whether they’d be locked to PS, everyone would know that such would be the case. But with Microsoft, “The smart money says that these games are just too big to be on just Xbox and PC and XCloud.”. So, if Sony buys, the games aren’t too big to be locked to a single platform; but if Microsoft buys, the games are too big to be kept to three platforms?
