I concur….I was born in 1978 and I have been a techie since I was 3 or 4. I am stunned almost daily by the tech thats revealed. All the new A.I.s will radically change the world quickly…just imagine where we will be one year from today!

The reason why glasses and headsets always fail is because the average consumer will not wear glasses or a headset for an extended period of time. So, any further research and development into glasses and headsets is a colossal waste of time and money.

I am a glasses wearer as well as a contact lenses wearer. I have astigmatism and dry eye as well. It always astonishes me that people won’t wear contacts when they use devices like this. Wearing contacts is like anything else. The first 10 times its gonna feel strange to put them on ur eye,but after u get use to it u dont feel them even after a full days use

@Mr. Note Nope, there will never be a decent sized market for either 3D/AR glasses or headsets. Television and Gaming have been trying to make that happen since the late 1980s. No matter what they do, they continue to fail. Just look at the spectacular repeated failure of 3D televisions.

Blah. Blah. Blah. The fact that you are even comparing it to 3D televisions show how nonsensically dumb you are. They are nothing alike. And maybe you haven’t noticed. But screens have became a lot smaller and more vivid in the past forty years.
Go to your local VR arcade and try it out. You’ll see how vastly things have improved lately. Or better yet buy a quest 2. They are dirt cheap. And while it is VR instead of AR they prove how amazing the lenses are. And they are the cheap lenses. There’s a lot better stuff out there for a higher cost.

Quest 2 alone have sold 14+ million headsets. You obviously don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Once AR slims down it will replace the smartphone. You can deny it all you want. But you’re wrong.

It’s not meant for consumers, its meant for industry use. AKA people who will use them in their job. Read the article, it mentions that the priority for the design was not to be inconspicuous. It’s designed to just work and not impede your vision. Imagine surgeons who wear crazy looking glasses with magnification to see what they’re doing. You wouldn’t expect those to catch on with consumers, but they have a market all their own.

Nice prototype. But while tech is not ready to have all the components in the frame why aren’t these put in a separate module around the neck. That could be socially more acceptable to wear.

they aren’t meant for private customers. but for industry work. in that context you don’t have to worry as much about how they’d look in public and can focus more on making them work ^^ but yeah, a model meant for the average joe would need to be easier on the eyes for sure hahahaha

If I could learn about engineering I would built an extension to Schlieren visualization for glasses like these AR glasses… It would be a pretty cool experiment or could find a usage for it in different fields like archeology, medical field, etc.

This would be an awesome navigation and mobility devices for people with disabilities like myself. It can also work as an OCR reader and communication tool if it is integrated with Google Lookout, Talkback, Maps, and Facebook Messenger.
