2026 is a tipping point year, says Ian Bremmer, founder of Eurasia Group. Highlighting the top risks that await the world, he breaks down the US military extraction of Venezuela leader Nicolás Maduro and explains why US President Donald Trump’s embrace of the “Donroe doctrine” kicks off the most uncertain geopolitical environment in decades. With stark insights on what’s to come in Europe, Russia and China, this is a can’t-miss look at the volatile world order. (This interview, hosted by TED’s Helen Walters, was recorded on January 5, 2026.)

The biggest risks are the globalist shadow world governments agenda. Also love how they’re acting like they don’t really know what is going to happen

The recent unilateral military extraction of Nicolás Maduro to New York, coupled with the open disregard for the territorial integrity of nations like Greenland and Canada, marks a dangerous escalation in American foreign policy that the world can no longer ignore. These actions demonstrate a blatant rejection of international law and a return to imperialist coercion, threatening the sovereignty of every independent state. To stand idly by is to accept a future where global boundaries are drawn by force rather than consensus. It is time for the international community to unite in a targeted boycott of US goods and services, sending a clear, economic message that this unchecked hegemonisation will not be tolerated and that the path to a just global order lies in multipolarity and mutual respect, not domination.

Silence is complicity. If we do not draw the line at Caracas, Nuuk, and Ottawa, we accept a world without rules. This crisis craves the surge of the Global South—a decisive rise of BRICS and allied nations to shatter the illusion of necessary American leadership. Divest from the hegemon; empower the new architects of a balanced world.

The US is a threat to the entire world. It’s destroying countries left, right and centre, whether that’s militarily or economically, causing untold misery across the world. It’s always the same story, regime change, extract as much oil and natural resources as possible, pull out and leave a power vacuum, then leave the country to languish and wither… The orange thing is going to end up causing world war 3 because he needs to distract from the Epstein files so badly. Nothing worse for a narcissist than being exposed as a sicko.

    • @Questioneverythingg730

      January 6, 2026 at 6:11 pm

This is because US financial hegemony is under threat. Great Britain was the same post ww2. What we are seeing is cycles. They need to hide their failing debt based banking system and war is always how they restructure and reset

I really enjoy TED Talk content, but what we’re hearing here is troubling. The U.S. conducted a military operation in Venezuela to capture President Nicolás Maduro, a true military strike, not a “police action.” Venezuelan and Cuban officials report at least 56 people, including Venezuelan security personnel and Cuban military personnel, were killed. To say no Americans died ignores the value of these lives. The operation violates international law and bypassed Congress. Celebrating it while ignoring these facts feels like propaganda, and sadly, many of us may now feel we have to unsubscribe.

Anyone who listened to this and thinks that Ian Bremmer is “pro Trump” should just turn off the news and go back to kiddie videos. He is the antithesis of maga, and is just giving an honest analysis of geopolitics– bc that’s his job! Yes, he could have recognized the loss of life to the Venezuelans– but in no way was he “applauding” or supporting Trump’s actions. When he said that it was a success “militarily”, he is correct– it was (for the Americans). And he was quick to distinguish that the legality of the matter is another issue, and spoke directly to that. But people’s knee-jerk reactions and temper tantrums about how they are now unsubscribing from Ted bc of what he said hurt their feelings– you’re part of the problem of why the left keeps losing miserably. And will continue to. So many on the left lack critical analysis skills and are so driven by their fragile egos. The world is complicated. Get over it.

What is going on in this president’s mind when he talks about taking over a sovereign country like Greenland? Is U.S. national security truly in danger, or is there some hidden advantage for the United States? Or is this simply a familiar tactic of constant distraction from troubles elsewhere—Epstein files, the economy, affordability, wars over oil, and AI tied to Venezuela, ICE being recruited and empowered in ways that resemble historical brownshirts, and the open targeting of political opponents? Name a distraction, and this president seems ready to offer several.

  28. @brucejankowitz4501

    January 7, 2026 at 10:49 am

Good stuff, that said isn’t what Trump did with Venezuela much like what Putin would do? Clearly breaking norms.
Also, I see China playing a bigger and bigger part in global energy needs and that will increase their global hand.

  29. @digitview

    January 7, 2026 at 11:02 am

You mean that large American corporations took advantage of both the United States and China. In China, they benefited from years of cheap labor, while simultaneously relying on U.S. security guarantees funded by American taxpayers. They then sold their products aggressively in the U.S. market, contributing little in return. This helps explain why those giant companies became so wealthy—their business model was built to exploit systems and ideologies alike, turning the bottom line into a game they designed to win by cheating.

As smart and knowledgeable Ian is, he overlooked the main group of voters that put Dementia Don into office again, and that’s the crypto voters. The vast majority of them are single issue voters. At the time of the election, there were at least 50 million of these voters in the US. Many of the crypto YouTube channels either conducted polls where it was consistently above 70% in favor of Donny or constantly pointed out how he was the better choice. 93% of the politicians elected in 2024 who were pro crypto got elected because they were backed by the crypto industry. Watch the documentary if you don’t believe me. Most everyone assumes it was MAGA that reelected him. They were the second largest group and there isn’t enough of them anymore to singlehandedly get him elected.

Should the US nominally support the return of Outer Manchuria by Russia to China? China’s claim has significant legitimacy. It would be a way to signal that the US is not seeking to entrench the diminishing of China that occurred during the Colonial Era. It could potentially force Russia to increase military forces in the Far East, reducing those that can be deployed against Ukraine and NATO.

I believe there could be a win for the capitalists (like Schmidt and other AI owners) and for humanity. You are right; ASI will be invented. The question is when and how. Using the word “slowdown” is not the goal. Our goal should be that ASI is unlawful until it not only mimics humans but also, in many other ways, experiences the world as we do, has moral principles, and shares many other human values. The issue is time. Within 5 to 10 years, Elon Musk and others predict that ASI will be developed. What if we could make it more human by extending the timeline to 10 to 20 years? I believe scientists will say that this could be done. Capitalists can secure government support, and people can plan how the implementation will affect their lives. ASI built within Musk’s timeline will cause the greatest risk to society’s ability to survive.
