Or just wait till November to get an 8k. 😆

In the Uk our main sat provider SKY has 100 HD channels and yet not 1 single 4K channel. There is 4k content available but its mainly sports and movies and sporadic: 8K tvs are beyond pointless.

@R lol, 8k tvs upscale HD and 4k to 8k. Why would you be paying for sky when there are a dozen websites that stream the channels 🤔? Most folks are cord cutters with Netflix and VPN, with the ability to access torrents and usenet.

Of course it will be noticeable, because they will use different compression algorithms. 8k content, coming soon, will use h.266 or mpeg 5. The compression means that a 4k digital movie is about 20 gb of data now, an 8k movie on Netflix will be likely around 60 gb. Going from 20 gb h.265, moving to h.266 with 60 gb, you will see a huge difference, unless you’re 15 feet away or something.

@R 65 inches or less, you can go with a 4k, 75 inches or more, I would go with an 8k, it’s that simple.

@R Lol, Samsung isn’t even putting their good backlight system in any of their 4k sets this year, but they are putting their best mini led technology into their 8k models. So 8k for Samsung is a no brainer. Lol, all TCL series 6 tvs this year are going to be 8K, if you want a 4k model, you’ll be buying last year’s model. TCL 6 series is a very budget friendly TV, tcl is cheap in general, so depending on the reviews, I might be looking at an 85 inch tcl 8k, compared with Samsung and LG 75 inch 8k models. I still remember when everyone said 4k was pointless. I’ve watched dang near every 4k release, even digital only stuff like The Running Man. It’s not pointless, at all.

We’ll eventually start seeing ads on these transparent TVs in public places. 😂

      January 13, 2021 at 11:12 pm

That’s actually the intended purpose of them. One of the big use cases that LG talked about was for using it on shopping mall windows and showing ads on them. It’s actually quite genius.

I won’t even spend past $1,500, wanting an LG OLED i won’t pay 2 grand or more that’s insane

They sold the smoke before the meat these tvs are great but are unvaliable now for the masses 🤔🤔😵😵😥😥👎🏼👎🏼

I’m waiting a year or two. 4K OLED still looks better than 8K QLED. Hopefully by then LG, Sony or Panasonic will have 12 bit color in some of their 4K and 8K OLED’s.

I know how disappointed Lexi is about 8K TVs. I feel the same way about not having at least a 1000 nit OLED TV. I seriously doubt the new LG and Sony OLEDs will get that bright. I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

    Sony! 😎👍

  12. Brian Lampright

Glad to see OLED getting brighter and LCD getting darker to close the gaps between the two technologies. 8k has no real advantages and plenty of disadvantages around bandwidth, we don’t need it!

I still struggle to tell the difference between 1080p and 4K at normal viewing distances, LTT even showed that 1080p while gaming for most games on pc (most sit closer to a monitor than a TV) that it’s hard to tell the difference.

What a pointless tv, transparent oled, how much will it cost. I feel like these people dont live in the real world.

I think this was the year tv manufacturers could have lowered their prices to keep margins down to a minimum and help people get tv’s, monitors and consoles in to their homes at affordable prices. People are suffering and strapped.
These big corporations would not even feel it financially.
Do it for six months and give back a bit so people can make being at home an exceptional experience.
The brand loyalty that would come out of this would carry them through years to come. Something still worth considering.

I appreciate TCL not costing as much as their competitors but still delivers an exceptional tv
