    $550: 4gb of RAM
    $700: 8GB
    Probably 0 upgradability because it’s a Surface.

This is not exactly the best laptop in this segment but perfect for the people that prefer premium build and have less intensive work .

LOL Everyone thinks this is not a “budget machine”. Apparently everyone forgot about how EVERY SINGLE HALFWAY DECENT LAPTOP is almost $1,000.00 or over $1,000.00 (if you want a little more). Look at the HP Pavilion, for example. I swear, the cheapest thing I’ve seen out there is the Chromebook. The prices REALLY have gone CRAZY. Although I do agree that 8GB RAM should’ve been what they started with. NO ONE is going to buy 4GB. EVER.

In what world is 4/64 accepted for 550???

Windows S is more for security. I like it on my SurfaceGO. For example it is very hard to run app with high priv if binary isn’t signed and can’t be verified. There is no CMD in Windows S. So malware is less likely therefore no ransomware disk encryption or adware. It is like iPadOS.

Please in 2020 do not buy a laptop with 4gb of ram and 64gb of storage. That is phone specs from 4 years ago.
    What a missed opportunity

4g ram… Seriously? I know the pandemic has stopped the world, but it didn’t mean we went back 10 years either. Pathetic. 64gigs of memory is nothing, but for the price is understandable, but 4g of ram… Seriously a FU from Microsoft to their users.

  14. Youtubian1790

    October 1, 2020 at 9:37 pm

$550 for 4gb of RAM and 64gb storage..in what world is that a good deal? Even if it has a current gen i-5..

  15. Tanner Deal

    October 1, 2020 at 9:42 pm

Why do most promo shots of surfaces devices have a surface mouse in them? I don’t know a single person that using a mouse with their MacBook. Are windows trackpads still that bad?

Really? Hmm no 11th ten, no ryzen, very small screen size, Emmc on entry …. no thanks

  17. Faisal FK

    October 1, 2020 at 10:00 pm

Instead of that touchscreen, they should have made 8GB RAM and 128 GB storage for the basic model.

  18. johnmonk66

    October 1, 2020 at 10:25 pm

And you pay 200 dollars if you want 128 gb more of storage. I see they are getting like apple and overcharging for simple upgrades.
64gb, what is this a Chromebook?
4GB of ram, is this a phone? Their new damn phone has more ram!!!

  19. Muhammad Kharismawan

    October 1, 2020 at 10:34 pm

yeah under 600usd touchscreen i5 is nice sounding indeed. the flash memory and 4gb ram isn’t tho.

why is 8gb still not the standard entry level minimum RAM size in the market is beyond me.

  20. GoudenDynamietHD

    October 1, 2020 at 10:43 pm

Omg this is the laptop of my dreams

  21. Steve Zubrowski

    October 1, 2020 at 10:47 pm

4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage shouldn’t even be options. I guess it’s just so they can advertise a lower starting price, but really, those are unusable specs for a laptop in 2020. 8GB and 128GB are a minimum even for ultraportable laptops IMO.

  22. Andrew Smith

    October 1, 2020 at 11:11 pm

You can’t just say “10th-gen i5” There is so much variation in those CPUs. The i5 U series are often worse than some of the i3 series.

  23. Alexander Barrera

    October 1, 2020 at 11:18 pm

    4 gb of ram
    “That’s fine for 500”
    I’m sorry what?
Y’all just get lucky to have the ability to spend 3000 on a laptop and get 1.5 tb of ram (exaggeration) so you think 500 is nothing, what in the what now?
Sorry I got carried away, but it’s 2020 and 500 is SOMETHING and you expect at least 8 the of ram, idk if Apple would honestly do this

  24. Alok Shrestha

    October 2, 2020 at 12:00 am

Thats a joke. You need to
Pay at least $899 for upgrade to make it workable.

Forget the 64gb storage, no one’s talking about the screen res: 1536×1024. 1920×1200 should have been an option if not the default.

  29. Techy

    This is 100% Chromebook killer.

  30. Martin

    October 2, 2020 at 6:34 pm

64gb reasonable? Budget phones have twice that. Ssd’s aren’t expensive now and windows uses like 30gb so this just sounds like a headache. It’ll be fine if you’re just doing work and not storing any data at all.

Also remember the surface RT and windows RT? It died because of no exe file support among other things. Why would they bother.

    • Sshsh HHshsh

  32. Edward Noble

    October 2, 2020 at 6:48 pm

MS goal is actually not to get you to buy the $549 model which they know has terrible specs, its to lure you in with that price and then upsell you on the “real” $699 model which is at least a competent and modern machine for 2020.

  33. Daniel Dougan

    October 2, 2020 at 7:06 pm

4 GB of RAM is unacceptable in 2020. 8 GB should be the minimum, and 16 GB should be mainstream. A quad core i5 is a nice processor, but you will be bottlenecked by the lack of RAM.

Likewise, I wouldn’t recommend anything less than 128 GB storage, and even that is pushing it considering how much space Windows takes up. 128 GB should be the minimum, and 256 GB should be mainstream.

    • Sshsh HHshsh

      October 2, 2020 at 7:16 pm

I think that suggesting people leave S-Mode out of the box is actually irresponsible… S-Mode DOES make your computer operate more smoothly… I kept my Surface Go in S-Mode for over a year, and only left it to install Microsoft Teams… Even so, I still live by the principles of S-Mode, and always look to the store apps first…. By so doing, I’ve keep my Go working well, and have maintained initial start up times 👍 I highly recommend staying in S-Mode as long as you can

I am watching on the Lenovo 15″ i got last year for $300 with 8G, Ryzen 5, 256G high speed ssd with room for a SATA 2.5.
LESS expensive is not INEXPENSIVE! $550
    win10s -the windows that sucks.
I expect the new MacBook will make this look like a toy -we shall see.

Oof, as a premium-ish chromebook user (Asus C302) who is going to need to switch to Mac/PC for software reasons soon, I was about to say this would be an insane Chromebook killer and a great deal against a MacBook Air, until I heard Windows 10S, now it’s just a windows computer with none of the advantages over a chromebook and none of the advantages of the windows OS… big yikes

  58. JC Bonfils

    October 3, 2020 at 10:24 am

“Under $500 laptops are rarely ever good”. OK.
Lol reviews have become an all too esoteric battle of the specs. Maybe in America, the only laptops that make headlines are apple and microsoft 😸 But I’m sure anyone from outside knows plenty of good laptops at or below $500. The only people who really need pro features are bitcoin miners, heavy gamers and professional designers, so to say sub $600 laptops “aren’t good” is untrue for most people.

  59. JC Bonfils

    October 3, 2020 at 10:27 am

Looking at the specs now and it makes me wonder 🤔 man, reviewers are full of kak nowadays. The only thing y’all endorse are flagship products from Microsoft and Apple, as if there aren’t much much better options at a better price point.

  60. J.W.

    October 3, 2020 at 12:57 pm

I would never buy a laptop cheaper than my phone. 4gb ram and 64gb storage? My note 10 should have better performance lol.

Anybody find it odd that the reviewer didn’t have the computer he was reviewing in hand ? All the pictures and video of people using one were stock looking from advertisements. CNET or Microsoft couldn’t spring for at least a demo ?

This is NOT a budget laptop. It’s a competitor to laptops like the macbook air. You pay for the great design, good build quality, good quality control etc. If you’re looking to get the most specs for your $$$ then this laptop clearly isn’t for you. Same goes for the other Surface Laptops.

  66. Don't Be Stupid

    October 3, 2020 at 5:10 pm

8GB of RAM should be the standard by now.

  74. Anduril

    October 4, 2020 at 12:01 am

If this were a convertible design it would make a fantastic tablet killer! But I’m guessing that encroaches too much on the regular Surface territory. I could definitely recommend this for my mom though! This ticks all the boxes for a laptop she was looking for! Would ditch the cruddy Windows S mode though since she’s got some legacy programs that I’m sure aren’t in the Windows store.

  75. Peter Parkour

    October 4, 2020 at 12:57 am

They rlly couldve used amd on these to reduce price even more 🤭 This is still expensive. There’s plenty of other laptops better than this calling it holy grail is entirely misleading.

  76. Andrei

    October 4, 2020 at 2:04 am

The surface go laptop seems interesting but slapping an Intel chip instead of an AMD ryzen (which is less expensive, more efficient & powerful), just seems like a missed opportunity. Also, I’d rather have more memory (16gb instead of 8) instead of a touchscreen on a clamshell laptop that doesn’t do 360 with its screen. Also, the base config comes with 64GB of storage and 4 gigs of RAM. What the heck is that? Can you even multitask on that? I wouldn’t buy that config even for my mom (it would be insulting).

  78. Chandrodoy Saha

Well there are pretty good options elsewhere too… I got an Asus vivobook 14 for $425(inflated prices now)… Has a 4 thread Ryzen 3 3250u M409DA.. boosts to 3.5Ghz ….integrated vega 3 iGpu… 8 gb ram…128gb SSD and 1 tb HDD.. pretty good non touch FHD screen, slim bezels. 6 hr battery… USB C that supports charging…. And yes.. it’s plastic.. but feels sturdy.. there is almost no flex or wobble. U get a windows 10 digital license too. It’s moderately light too.. 1.5kg… also.. precision trackpad… And fingerprint reader.

  79. Redentor Dictaan

  80. Netflix Entertainment

WTF? 64gb with 4gb of ram? That’s a worse option. People ain’t buying it.

  81. Jay P

    October 4, 2020 at 11:18 am

I don’t understand why they didn’t offer 8gb ram and an AMD Ryzen APU instead. For the price, I’d rather get one of Wal-Mart’s Ryzen laptops.

Nobody should buy a laptop with 4gb ram in 2020, and for 500usd you can do way better than this.

  85. Alex Mercer

    October 4, 2020 at 5:39 pm

They could have omitted the touchscreen and increased the storage, and lower the price more.

$550 for 64GB storage and 4GB Ram in 2020?!? What were CNET smoking when they said “holy grail for cheap but good laptops”
This isn’t a good deal in 2010 FFS let alone 2020.

“Holy Grail”?!? You’ve got to be f***ing kidding me
