    Disney + sucks. Netflix is ok for my retired parents. You tube is free with nice sci fi like dust. Books are better for kids.

      I’ve been loving Netflix lately. The Queens Gambit, Toast of London, The Social Dilemma, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Schitts Creek, Dark, and Snowden are all 10s in my book.

    Disney+ is $6.99 and they are bumping it to $7.99. That is like 1-2 cups of coffee. I think at that price point if you’re struggling, you probably need to save the money for more important basic needs. Why is the cost of Disney+ basic monthly not even on the chart?

      You’re perfectly demonstrating how these streaming companies want the consumer to think about the cost. “It’s only 1-2 cups of coffee. Who can’t afford a cup of coffee?” It’s not 1-2 cups of coffee. (Btw if you’re paying $8 for two cups of coffee you are getting ripped off lol). That’s the cost for ONE month. So you think “ok I’m paying $96 for the year then”, but that’s not accurate either as you’re subscribing for years most likely and will probably not think about it after a while. And you have to factor in the price hikes. In fact it’s actually an endless uncapped amount you’re paying. And you’re still watching ads in terms of product placement within shows/movies. That’s the trick with the streaming model; get people to pay a lot more than they realize for something they will use a lot less of than they realize. You think “I’m only paying 1-2 cups of coffee for millions of movies!” But you now know you are actually paying an endless recurring amount of money for only a fraction of what you would actually consume. You think at least I don’t have to watch ads but if you think of your subscription fee like a tax, ads can actually be a much better form of tax in many ways than a set dollar amount because you have freedom to ignore the ads if you want and use them to your benefit like an excuse to take a break from binge watching, get a drink, or go toilet. It’s fine to pay for any of these services if you want but you should try to consider the actual cost properly. If you’re rich it’s whatever, but many average salary people who don’t understand the cost properly think “oh spotify only cup of coffee, netflix only cup of coffee, disney, amazon cup of coffee etc” not realizing how all of these taxes can add up over a lifetime and maybe they could have gotten better enjoyment/entertainment with those savings deployed elsewhere.

      @Alan Disney+ is Ad Free. I totally agree that if you think $6.99 or $7.99 a month is expensive, then you should definitely save the money for your basic needs like groceries or rent.

    I only pay for Netflix, Spotify (music + podcasts), and books. Pirate everything else over a VPN. Fuck Disney. I’m not crazy about the way Spotify treats artists – I need to find a better solution for that.

    If you share the annual price for Disney+ and Netflix with multiple people (for example 4 friends) it’s still a bargain, if you cut the cord.

    If you Subscribe to Disney+ now, you can still get in for a whole year at $6.99 before they hike their prices to $7.99
