As a former US intelligence analyst myself, I can attest that this video and commentary is spot-on in every way. A lot of times these videos are annoying to me because they’re talking to somebody who only has peripheral knowledge about some of the things they’re talking about, but this guy was absolutely right

“The fact that this guy knows the lat and long of where he is at any place … ” … yeah as does anyone with a phone. Drop pin 😁

“Jack Black apparently has access to satellites …. ” …. no that would be the character Jack Black is playing or rather what the writer wrote for him … because its a film. I’m usually fascinated by these expert videos but Enemy of the state was released 23 years ago so I’d imagine various things had to be assumed. In context a snoopers charter with complete access to everything us humans do was being slipped through and a senator was assassinated because he wouldn’t sign off on it. This incident was filmed and those involved were caught in the act. The person who was filmed brings all agency assets to bare to protect himself and the Bill which allows all assets to be brought to bare under one agency. By him. The reality is 23 years later we have every app, watch, fitbit, earphones, phone, TV, car, fridge, smart rucksack, fit shoes, game station camera, Alexa, Courtana, website, police anpr, streetcam, shopping cam, loyalty card, F@ceb0ok, g00gle, appfel, amazoink, credit card, sim card, and even wired 90’s headphones, smart water and electric meters, reporting back every single thing we do, think or say and now with AI in everything – what we are probably going to think, do or say. And that’s, the tip of the tip of the iceberg. I’ll enjoy Enemy of the State and just take this with a small pinch, a mere 200 or so, grains of salt. All that crap that tracks our every move is fact, but an agency that has access to whatever if required is unlikely …

    • Jan-Harm Pietersen

      July 10, 2021 at 11:08 am

He is not critiquing the film, he’s just explaining how accurate or inaccurate that part of the film is. You’re still aloud to enjoy the film, maybe because you agree with the theme, but it doesn’t change the fact that there is still a flaw.

Real time image analysis is not so sweet as shown in the movies. Being a guy doing such things, I know that sat images need to be de-noised, filtered and gone through many more steps before such levels of detail is achieved. An image may take days to process. It is simply almost impossible to automate the whole process since a human is needed to manually decide on what to use out of numerous techniques of analysis. However, big respect for the guest in the video for at least trying to give the viewers a context of the subject.

17:20 – the structure is not THAT big. Take a look at solar sails. The harder part is controlling the vehicle against solar pressure (torque) and I would guess, maintaining the parabolic (or spherical?) shape. It’s a really interesting idea. Also, at LEO (where it appears to be), it would by flying over every 90 minutes, have extreme atmospheric drag, and spend ~30minutes/orbit in earth’s shadow.
