I don’t think physical retail is going anywhere. We love mooching around shops with friends, seeing stuff in the flesh, trying stuff on, getting out the house, socialising, going to dinner after. We’ll also be working remotely from the mall.

What we don’t like is not having something in our size on the rail in that colour. But that’ll be solved when we stop buying the item in the shop. The shop will then have more room to stock more selection, instead of using the space for duplicates. We’ll just take the tags to the checkout and the merchandise will be delivered the next day, or perhaps they can sell the one on the rail for a premium.

It also solves the other big physical retail headache, driving back to the store just to return something. And we can settle-up later once we know what we’re keeping.

The store will collect data on our purchases and AI will learn to recommend.

Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
